Overview & Reviews
Subaru has expanded the availability of its new 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine to the Outback sedan. The result is two additional sedan trim levels: 3.0-H6 and 3.0-H6 VDC. Minor upgrades to all trim levels this year include a dome light off-delay, an ignition switch illumination ring and wood grain-patterned door switch trim. Cars with the Vehicle Dynamics Control system now have a button to turn the system off, and sedans receive an internal trunk release. The automatic climate control system is upgraded with an air filtration system.
- The security of all-wheel drive, comfortable on pavement, capable on dirt, well-appointed interior.
- Not as capable as an SUV in terms of pure off-road capability, upscale models are expensive.

Finally, a 6 cylinder! - 2002 Subaru Outback
By Auzzieboy10 - January 17 - 10:00 amJust got my Outback 6 Cyl. Wagon two weeks ago and so far I really love this car. Had a Sedan 20 years ago and really liked it, but I needed a SUV and wasnt going to settle for a 4 cyl. Found out the Outback had a 6 cyl. on Friday and bought it on Saturday:) However, at 212hp is only adequate in my opinion, but good handling and braking make up for continued lack of power.

SUPER CAR--But buy used - 2002 Subaru Outback
By Scottysubaru - December 1 - 2:00 amBest car I ever owned...until I found out they rented them! Not one problem with the car at all. Little things like the radio controls being too small, the back seats not reclining a bit, etc. But, because they rent them, there are an abundance of current model year units on the used car lots in 6 months. Look to chop off $10 grand in the first year in depreciation. Quite a blow..and something you dont expect in a Subaru. SO, BUY A USED ONE....you can save a ton or look at a Forester (they dont rent them yet). I wish I would have.

One Great Car - 2002 Subaru Outback
By David Sander - October 19 - 2:00 amI purchesed this car after my 2000 Outback Limited was hit head on at a high rate of speed by a Honda Accord. I walked away, she didnt. Safety sold me on the car. The H6 is an awsome engine. Gobbs of power and torque. I love this car!

Paint on 2nd Color of Car - 2002 Subaru Outback
By MsMcGoo - September 5 - 10:00 amThe lower plastic on the Subaru Outback has an issue with peeling. This happens after a your car has been severly door dinged. The plastic bends but the paint does not stick to the plastic. This also occurs when a rock goes through your bumper. This is cosmetic but for a brand new car, the paint should not be peeling.

Love it. - 2002 Subaru Outback
By Kent - September 4 - 6:20 amHad the H6 sedan for almost 6 months now and love it. Handles great, rides great, and fun to drive. Only issue is that my breaks squeal loudly after they get warmed up and no dealership yet can figure it out. Ugh. Other than that I am sold on my Subaru! Absolutely a great car. I drive a ton for work and I am always comfortable and never stiffen up driving long road trips.

VDC - Very Dynamic Car - 2002 Subaru Outback
By WRXSTi - August 13 - 10:00 amThis is my 7th Subaru, and by far the best made and engineered of all of them. No rattles, squeaks, grinding, smoking as of 32000 miles. The VDC is all about the motor, VERY smooth throughout rev range, boxer H6 like a "Porcha", tranmission well matched and downshifts without hesitation. Tip- take the spring on the muffler bypass and reverse it, it allows full flow of exhaust and gives you the distinct pleasure of hearing the engine note at all throttle settings, plus increases the MPG and acceleration.

Each generation of Outbacks Improves. - 2002 Subaru Outback
By trzeszkowski - April 29 - 10:00 amthis is my 3rd Outback since 1997. The second one developed transm problems and traded it in for the six cylinder. I love the six even more. Minor inprovements show that some one is always testing and thinking.

Love it - 2002 Subaru Outback
By scoobaru - March 2 - 12:36 amI bought the car with 11k miles in 2004. Ive had very few problems and have surpassed the 100k mark. I recently put about $500 worth of maintenance work into it and she runs great. Ive used it multiple times to tow a trailer with as much weight as 4000 lbs. Id like to get another 100k miles out of it at least. Im sure improvements have been made in the past 7 yrs - Im looking forward to buying another one.
