Subaru has expanded the availability of its new 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine to the Outback sedan. The result is two additional sedan trim levels: 3.0-H6 and 3.0-H6 VDC. Minor upgrades to all trim levels this year include a dome light off-delay, an ignition switch illumination ring and wood grain-patterned door switch trim. Cars with the Vehicle Dynamics Control system now have a button to turn the system off, and sedans receive an internal trunk release. The automatic climate control system is upgraded with an air filtration system.
- The security of all-wheel drive, comfortable on pavement, capable on dirt, well-appointed interior.
- Not as capable as an SUV in terms of pure off-road capability, upscale models are expensive.

A Thin Line between Love and Hate - 2002 Subaru Outback
By liz - April 12 - 11:36 amI knew I wanted my Subaru OUtback Sedan for a while. I was in love with it when I got her. Had to replace brakes and rotors, expensive but routine. Everything was great until 95k mi, had oil leaking everywhere. Subaru did cam seals, valve seals, timing belt (it was leaking on it too) and some other stuff for $650. A month later engine light came on - catalytic conv. Got a 2nd opinion on the cat. conv. and they found a leak in the head gasket. Im sick to my stomach I love this car...never a problem in bad weather...I dont want to get rid of it but after the reviews idk. I may not be able to afford all the up keep. I would buy a new outback if they came out with a new sedan...without the problems

14-Month Review - 2002 Subaru Outback
By rob999 - September 20 - 2:00 amHave completed 14 months / 17,000 miles in my H4/5spd Outback. Absolutely zero problems. A delightful car to drive. This is primarily my commuter car, but we occasionally press it into family service for weekend trips, especially for winter driving. I would recommend the Outback to anyone considering this type of vehicle. Glad I ditched my SUV!

LOVE IT! - 2002 Subaru Outback
By JenJ - September 10 - 10:00 amWe love this car. Plenty of room for a family of 4. Stereo is great. Much more power than our old Subaru. Dont really need the moon-roofs, but the kids think theyre cool :) Had to laugh on a recent trip to Vermont, saw at least one in EVERY parking lot. Cant wait for snow this winter.

22500 miles in year 1 and just like new - 2002 Subaru Outback
By kluet - June 21 - 10:00 amVery smooth ride and can take anything including 4-wd only roads. I drive everywhere in this car b/c you can travel in comfort and still get all your gear in there. Roof rack is great and use it all the time for bikes. Great all around car for any environment.

Excellent car - 2002 Subaru Outback
By Jim - March 14 - 10:56 pmI bought this car for dependable commuting in all (snowy) weather. It is the most sure-footed vehicle I have ever owned. It has averaged 28 mpg or better under all conditions. Visibility is excellent. It is comfortable on long trips as well. This is a convenient and useful vehicle.

2002 Positive Review - 2002 Subaru Outback
By brookhollow - February 28 - 10:00 amHave enjoyed comfort, reliability, carrying capacity, overall appearance, and features included on this model. Comfort control temperature better than regular temperature controls, but a bit noisey at the start up. Have noticed not as smooth a transition through gears going uphill as a friends Honda Accord EX (also V-6). Like the Outback a lot--this is my second one!

Great vehicle - needs more room - 2002 Subaru Outback
By Hiker - February 8 - 11:50 pmI like my 2001 LL Bean edition very much. I could do w/o all the extras but I did not like the four cylinder. I do not miss my old, bouncy, poor riding/handling, gas guzzling SUV. However, at 6-02 in height, I could use one to two more inches of legroom and a telescoping steering wheel.
