  • need a decent roof rack - 2010 Subaru Outback

Car is good, but less practical than the older subarus. The roof rack is a ridiculous plastic fashion accessory. I had to drill into the plastic to mount cross bars far enough apart for long items like kayaks, windsurfers, etc. Subaru needs to think PRACTICAL.

  • Great Machine - 2010 Subaru Outback

I have 2000 miles on new outback. The 3.5 engine/automatic matchup is a perfect combination... getting 26 mph with all kinds of power and acceleration. Car handles well in high water with no hydroplaning. I live in snow zone, looking forward to experiencing its reputation as a snow machine. Very comfortable cabin and with the limited accessories it offers all one needs. Recommend this vehicle as a great deal for all around uses.

I like to keep cars as long as I can, We bought this car new thinking it would last us 10 to 15 yrs, Now Im not so sure it will, we are about 6 yrs in and have put way to much into it to get it here. the first problem we had at about 15000 miles was the brakes, the rear pads fell out wrecking the caliper, at less than 20000, the tires were shot, uneven wear, we are now at about 92000, and on our 4th set always uneven wear, we have to have it alinged twice a year because it wont stay alinged. Have had that done by a few different shops and found one that can do it really well and seems to last the longest. Other problems the ac sucks, dealer looked at says its ok, still sucks, poor line of sight, the rear view mirior is in the wrong place, and the roof towers block a lot, also the shocks in the rear had to be replace at 15000, now they all need replacing again, all the wheel bearings have been done, front ball joints, brake pads at least on the third or 4th set, and the list keeps going, all the brake disc, Now for the second time it had to be towed to the dealer because the ignition switch is stuck, cant wait to get that bill, and to top it off its about time to do the belts. We are not rich and this car has been hard for us, new this car was to much money. I hope this helps other people when buying a car.

All the editors reviews are accurate, the car is great, on the down side, its noisy on acceleration, but on smooth road, ride is quiet. Interior and exterior quality top shelf.

  • Difficult to start at high altitudes - 2010 Subaru Outback
    By -

All perspective owners should be aware that this vehicle has a known and systemic issue at high altitudes. Specifically, the car is very difficult to start. I live in the Denver area (5200 feet) and took it up to Breckenridge (9200 feet) for the weekend. When we wanted to leave in the morning to go to the slopes I had a very difficult time starting it. This happened again after skiing all day. According to Dealer, this problem is well known by Subaru and they are working on a fix but dont have one yet. I am extremely frustrated (not surprised) that this known issue was not communicated to me by the dealer. I am writing this review to warn other potential buyers of this issue.

  • car for old man - 2010 Subaru Outback

All I love about this car is the AWD. It feels soooo underpowered. Picking up is very slow. Heating system takes so long to feel warm. After a few months, the chemical-like smell inside is still strong. plastic parts feels so cheap inside. maybe the first and the last Subaru for me.

  • Some Minor Complaints - 2010 Subaru Outback
    By -

We chose this car because of the rear seat room, which is plentiful. Overall the car is great. Its comfortable and the MPG is great for an AWD vehicle. I also like the rack system. I have had issues with the power steering, it seems loud to me. Some other minor complaints: Door cup holders dont accommodate water bottles (in a car marketed to outdoor enthusiasts), no power seat memory, no rear seat vents, windows vibrate when slightly opened, and the turn signals are not very visible from the side (needs additional side signal and even one in the mirror). Finally, the manual says not to use snow chains, which can be a problem in Oregon if you go to the mountains infrequently!

  • Only gets better - 2010 Subaru Outback

Last week I came upon a brand new Jeep stuck in a four ft. snowdrift. The owner (a 20 something male) was testing his new car in the snow. I drove into the snow drift next to him, rolled down the window and offered to call the tow guy. Sheepishly he told me his dad was coming. Put my Subaru into reverse and drove away. This weekend was in Tucson parked at a resort surrounded by 100s of Lexus (the official car of golf resorts) I watched as several people passed by and looked at our car, puzzled as to the new look. My biggest fear was to get run over by an out of control Lexus. In summary, Subaru - rough and wild in the woods and civilized and classy when needed.

First of all Id like to say that I had apprehensions between the time of buying and delivery. I had to wait 2 months for the delivery and during this time I read all kinds of good and no so good comments about the OB. Well I have been driving this car for about 2 weeks now for 450 km in town and on highway (not done any offroad yet but Im sure It wont disappoint me) and I am happy to report that this car is the best 4X4 SUV I ever had.

I have owned four Subarus and this one is my favorite by far-in fact it is one of the best cars I have ever owned. It is super smooth and drives like a much bigger car. The ride is great and the handling is good.
