Overview & Reviews

Engineers have given the tall wagon more interior room, a stiffer body structure, a revised chassis and more standard feature content -- all while keeping exterior dimensions the same and reducing the curb weight by 90 pounds.
- Standard all-wheel drive, availability of upscale features, high safety scores.
- Only one engine choice, price can be higher than most of the competition.

By gmginsfo - March 1 - 2:00 amAt just over 9K miles, Im pretty happy with my Forester so far. The mileage continues to improve, and I enjoy driving it wherever I go. At times it seems sluggish, but thats probably just me driving too miserly!

Overall Excellent small SUV - 2003 Subaru Forester
By Jborman - February 16 - 2:00 amI have been very happy with the Forester 2003 (Premium Package included). This SUV is loaded and not missing a feature. The premium sound system is awesome. The handling is great & I have already driven in bad weather and felt very safe. The reviews at Consumer Reports highly recommended the Forester & I can see why!

Best Car Ive Owned - 2003 Subaru Forester
By XCCoachLou - December 13 - 10:00 amThis car is great. I have 4000 miles on it since I bought it in June. First, it is extremely comfortable. All the controls are logically placed. It is very easy to change the radio, or adjust the temperature. The visibility from the Drivers seat is incredible. Secondly, the ride is incredible. In heavy rainstorms, it felt like most other cars on dry pavement. It was sure and steady. The gas mileage has been better than EPA estimates. On a recent 250 mile road trip, I got over 29 MPG and that includes being stuck in traffic for an hour. Finally, it is quiet. It is quieter at highway speeds than any other car I have owned, including sedans.

Solid as a rock - 2003 Subaru Forester
By cskyun - November 21 - 10:00 amCurrent employer bought this car on my request, for the work that requires me to drive 48K miles a year. I have not had a single problem with this car and got me out of many sticky situations (some were intentional, just to see how it performs). Drives sure-footed way in rain or snow of Kansas. Descent gas mileage and with that price and safety rating, this is the best value out there. Currently own Chevy Sub and Lexus ES300 but I prefer and feel safer to drive this car in any weather, qith the family. The brakes also deserve a praise. I remember a reviewer compare the handling as if it was running on "rail", and I can not find a better description

Excellent Car, Excellent Price - 2003 Subaru Forester
By Larry Eckman - September 24 - 3:10 amThis is my first Subaru and I am impressed. Excellent quality and fun to drive in the snow and rain. Sure-footed AWD and good traction make this a pleasure in foul weather. I highly recommend Subaru Forester as an alternative to higher priced gas guzzling SUVs.

First year down, many more to go - 2003 Subaru Forester
By moon43man - September 19 - 10:00 amI researched the mini suvs and bought a 2003 Forester. I was worried about the lack of space, but after a year of use, I no longer have that concern. It really proved itself after hauling my son and all of his stuff 800 miles away to college. With a roof cargo carrier from Sears and the Foresters rear compartment loaded up, I got 28 mpg @ 75 mph. It was a comfortable ride and actually has more leg room than the Safari mini van. The Forester is not as large as my previous vehicles, but then I didnt get 28 mpg with them. I guess there are trade offs with everything, but for a all round, do just about anything vehicle, I am very satisfied with my choice.
