Overview & Reviews
Subaru's well-regarded Forester crossover sport-ute has been completely redesigned to be an even more enjoyable addition to your family. Engineers have given the tall wagon more interior room, a stiffer body structure, a revised chassis and more standard feature content -- all while keeping exterior dimensions the same and reducing the curb weight by 90 pounds.
- Standard all-wheel drive, availability of upscale features, high safety scores.
- Only one engine choice, price can be higher than most of the competition.

Like the All-Wheel Drive - 2003 Subaru Forester
By Dave D. - October 17 - 2:00 amIve never owned an all-wheel drive vehicle before. The first trip we took after purchasing the car it snowed 7 inches. The all-wheel drive feature was great. Other vehicles we passed had traction problems. The vehicle also has surprising acceleration when passing on a two lane road.

Solid and easy to upgrade - 2003 Subaru Forester
By ddev - August 16 - 8:40 pmThis is my 2nd Forester. Traded in the 2000 because I got tired of the manual. When I got the 2003 XS, I also had a 1999 Audi A8 Quatro (315 HP, all aluminum, etc.) and remarkably, the Subo was more fun to drive -- and light years better mileage. I do wish they had a turbo diesel, and Ill probably keep this car till they do and then trade in.

First time Subaruer - 2003 Subaru Forester
By The Katster - July 24 - 2:00 amThe height of the vehicle is great to get in and out of the vehicle. I find the get up and go a little sluggish, especially on a fresh start/pull out. The feel of driving is fun and enjoyable on long trips. The cargo area is extremely handy in comparison to a standard car with a trunk.

Falling apart - 2003 Subaru Forester
By Gerterschnitz - January 21 - 10:33 amWe bought this car new in 2002. It was fine for the first few years. Its been well maintained. However, in the past 2 years we have replaced sway bars twice; sway bar links need replacing; heater blower fan just died; several engine gaskets are seeping. The car is simply not built for much other than smooth highway driving. Its also noisy - and was right from the get-go. I would not buy again.

Out to Lunch on New Forrester Purchase - 2003 Subaru Forester
By J.J. - December 29 - 10:00 amPurchased a 2003 Subaru Forrester XS, prem/lthr. Biggest complaint is a horrible blind spot on the left side. The right side is great. I use the rearview and side mirrors when switching to the left lanes on the highway. As an extra precaution I turn my head to the left and my view is seriously hindered by the panel that is between the side and rear windows. Its really a dreadful feeling as I feel as if it is "merge or die" and I hate to solely rely on mirrors only. Does anyone else have this problem? If so, then how do you overcome? Really interested in your comments. Am seriously considering a trade on a one-month old car. Many thanks.

Made me a believer! - 2003 Subaru Forester
By goyanks - December 7 - 3:03 pmLoved the car from day 1. I have rescued a number of people stuck in the snow with larger SUVs. A bit noisy in the cockpit but has never left me stranded. After close to 150K miles I think Ill get a new one :)

Subaru Forester is a Good Buy - 2003 Subaru Forester
By gido gido - April 27 - 2:00 amThe visibility provided by the cars height along with the low rear window makes driving and parking easy. The engine has enough power for the freeway and around town. The car has a very solid feel. The seats are also very comfortable both front and back.
