Overview & Reviews
Subaru's well-regarded Forester crossover sport-ute has been completely redesigned to be an even more enjoyable addition to your family. Engineers have given the tall wagon more interior room, a stiffer body structure, a revised chassis and more standard feature content -- all while keeping exterior dimensions the same and reducing the curb weight by 90 pounds.
- Standard all-wheel drive, availability of upscale features, high safety scores.
- Only one engine choice, price can be higher than most of the competition.

03 Forester - 2003 Subaru Forester
By Mr Kibs - July 9 - 2:00 amvery surprised by the performance this mini suv has. Lots of value and a huge bargain for what you pay for. I bought mine for its reliability and AWD. Takes corners like a sports car, and has the feeling like its glued to the road! Where can you get heated seats, automatic climate control, AWD and more for under $24K. Love the panorama view of the road, almost no blind spots.

Very nice vehicle - 2003 Subaru Forester
By EWG - June 28 - 10:00 amTest drove and priced several other comparable models, but none matched the Forester for features and overall performance. I drive mostly highway and it has lots of pep for a 4 cyl. Anyone in the market for a small SUV/crossover should test drive the Forester.

First time Subaru owner - 2003 Subaru Forester
By n.munson - June 11 - 10:00 amDuring the last 2 winter in New York, the Forester proved to be the best purchase in a car, we ever made. Great fun to drive, gives the driver a real feel for the road conditions. We are over all happy with our purchase.

great reliability - 2003 Subaru Forester
By Ken Brown - May 30 - 1:16 amA faulty remote was the only problem in the first 30,000 miles. Great car but only 25 mpg. Subaru needs a clean diesel or hybrid for those of us who worry about the environment.

Piston Slap - 2003 Subaru Forester
By Duke - May 23 - 1:00 pmBought the Subie a month ago with 62K on the OD. The boxer engines are prone to piston slap and mine was no exception. I bought it stipulating that the piston slap would be remedied and it was (valves were adjusted). The car does what its supposed to do - gets you around with decent gas mileage and sure-footedness in inclement weather. This suv is 6 years old and I am confidant I will still be driving it 6 years from now.

piston slapping Subarus - 2003 Subaru Forester
By Phil Mag - May 19 - 5:03 pmMy Forester has the 2.5 engine that has developed the infamous PISTON SLAP which makes it sound like an old uncared for car. We service per the manual, so it IS cared for. It sounds like loud lifter noise and it doesnt go away when warm. The dealer, after several visits, says it is just normal. Guess what car I will NOT buy next time. & Im telling everyone I know.

Forester X - 2003 Subaru Forester
By Judy3115 - April 8 - 2:00 amI have had the car 2 months and have about 4600 miles. I drove 1000 miles 1 way on a trip and didnt end up with a back ache or too much stiffness. Driving across western Minnesota caused arm stain due to wind although it didnt look like there was that much wind.

Be Careful with this one - 2003 Subaru Forester
By ... - January 6 - 7:13 amI thought this car would be a great buy and at first it was. I love the way it handles, acceleration is good, gas mileage is fair. Now after owning it for not even two years, and still paying the sucker off I have not one but two count em two bad head gaskets, $1600 to fix, and it is a common problem. Just check msn autos reliability raitings. Bad head gaskets, its what makes a Subaru a Subaru. Do not buy!

Cant wait to buy another... - 2003 Subaru Forester
By jmonk - January 5 - 7:36 amThis is the best vehicle I have ever owned; responsive, fun to drive; reliable and comfortable during the long drives. The new styling is appealing and the improvements to the interior affords storage and accessibility without taking your eyes off the road. I bought my Forester in February, so I was able to test its AWD ability...I was impressed. I highly recommend this vehicle to anyone young or old. The base model offers just more than enough options.
