  • This is a fabulous car - 2001 Subaru Forester

This is a fabulous car. Excellent steering, traction, road feel and mileage. Super reliable.

  • Quirky but fun and reliable - 2001 Subaru Forester
    By -

Okay, so the Forester is neither car nor SUV, but its still roomy, reliable, reasonably thrifty (compared to competitors in the compact SUV market) and is fun to drive. Okay, so being low to the ground with fat 16" tires isnt going to make it an off-roader anytime soon, but that same low to the ground trait also makes it fun to drive, and the 165 horsepower engine moves its 3,000 pounds around with reasonable alacrity.

  • Ill do it again - 2001 Subaru Forester

Superb handling, great looks, a c0ouple of issues with the oxygen sensor and the right front inner steerin/drive boot are all that prevent this form being an ideal auto for the money. This was my first, but definitely not my last Subaru!

  • Better than my Jeep Cherokee! - 2001 Subaru Forester

Coming from a 95 Jeep Cherokee and having them both in a Minnesota winter I can say that the traction and control of the AWD system greatly outperformed teh Selec-Trac and All-Time 4WD system of the Jeep. while the Jeep slid and tailed a bit on ide and soft snow, the Subaru was easier to control and more predictable. I also shopped for a 2001 Cherokee and found that little had changed in the 5 years since Jeep had made my 95 Cherokee. The interior had been upgraded but still lacked the comfort and amenities of the Forester.

  • Safe and fund to drive - 2001 Subaru Forester

I love my subaru. I love the way it drives and how safe I feel in it. It handles like a dream in wet weather. Its the perfect height, no climbing up or down. If i had to say anything negative, it would be that the back seat is a little shallow, not a lot of leg room. So if you have tall children or will be carting friends around a great deal, they wont be able to really kick their feet out in the back. Other than that, I think its perfect.

  • Bad Roads - 2001 Subaru Forester
    By -

(90K) Handled very well 2000 miles and very bad dirt rural roads in Laurel Hill Fl. in 04/2009. Only normal and minor things wrong. Front passenger axle assembly, $268, 03/2008. Alternator 11/2008 (rebuilt), $168. Driver door outside door handle,($69 P/L.) Clock, CD Drive (not done). Cold, Rain and moderate off road very good. Rear tire hum tolerable. Full non-towing load performance very good. Still love it. Go anywhere, do anything. Beach, fishing, hiking, bicycling.

  • love it but the bearing - 2001 Subaru Forester

We just love our Forester. We did however have some problems with the rear bearings. After replacing them under warranty four times, Subaru gave us an extrended warranty and sealed bearing. It was lots of hassle to get this done but now we love it.

  • Love my Forester - 2001 Subaru Forester

We now have 22,000 miles on the car (about 1/3 of the miles are on back roads) and we are truly happy with Forester. It is a great "all around" vehicle. My wife will be driving it most of the time, and it is nice to know that she will have the safety of AWD on our snow-packed and icy roads (a first). We have been getting about 23 mpg regardless of where and how we drive it. It would be nice if the mileage improved with age, but I can live with 23 mpg.

  • Great for everything - 2001 Subaru Forester

I bought my Forester used (lease return with 37000 miles), got the 30k maitenance done and a clean bill of health, then drove halfway across the country and back. The sight lines are great, adjustable seat height is wonderful for me at 52". Its zippy and I like the feel of the suspension. MPG topped out at 40 (yes, 40) on the road trip with a tailwind in Wyoming; I average 28-30 mpg when driving in the city. I would buy this car again in a hearbeat.

  • Good, but not Great - 2001 Subaru Forester
    By -

Rides great, handles great, looks good. Handles rain and snow without a problem and is comfortable to drive or be a front seat passanger. Has decent amount of power (more powerful and quieter than CRV and RAV4). It also has a lot of cargo room. Whoever designed the interior should look for a new job. The back seat is cramped and cannot move back and forth or recline. The drink holder is in the worst spot possible (except if they put it in front of the instrument cluster). Also, the gas mileage, while not bad, is NOT what it states on the sticker. Overall a great car and a great value, just wish they would follow the CRV interior.
