This Year's Model Updates:

The 2010 Subaru Forester gets mild equipment changes. Last year's Premium package is now considered a trim level and additionally includes a standard power driver seat. The L.L. Bean Edition trim level is no more, though it was actually discontinued midway through last year. The optional navigation system now includes Bluetooth connectivity.

Pros:
  • Standard all-wheel drive, roomy cabin with ample cargo space, comfortable ride, capable engines, excellent safety scores.
Cons:
  • Outdated four-speed automatic transmission, so-so fit and finish.

  • Very Happy - 2010 Subaru Forester

So far so good. I test drove the new Outback, not please at all with the drive. The Forester however is easy to maneuver, no major blind spots. Leather is a must, other models w/o leather seem sub-par.

  • Great Ride - 2010 Subaru Forester

Ive only had this car for 2 1/2 weeks and I love it. I sold my 2002 Jeep Liberty 2wheel drive for this Subie and I love it. I live were it snows a lot and the all wheel drive is great. The car handles nicely. I had a rattle in the back but I just opened and closed all the doors and it went away. The radio is on the cheap side but I dont live in the car I just drive to work so it will do just fine. The passenger seat is a little low but thats a minor issue. all-in-all this is a great value for what you get in terms of safety and driving. There is also a lot of cargo space for a small SUV

We purchased our 2010 Forester in Febuarary 2010 when our daughter was born. We mainly purchased it for safety and reliability. The vehicle was fun to drive and handled well. We were disappointed that the a/c compressor went out and even after being replaced continued to make a grinding noise and would quit blowing cold off and on. Dealership never was able to fix it. Also found that the seats were uncomfortable and fit and finish were lacking. We traded it off on a toyota, which we have owned several of and never had service problems with. Would not reccomend the forester.

I was trading in a large SUV and wanted something more car like but still have the convenience of an SUV. I test drove the CR-V and RAV4. The Toyota was still truck like, even though the Honda had a nice interior I did not like the way it handled. The Subaru was more fun to drive and I just liked how the AWD is standard. Im surprised at how well the car drives and how smooth it is going over the highway. I am disappointed on the MPG, but much better than a giant SUV. So far I am very happy with this car. It has some small rattles, but it is also not a $50,000 car. My friends CR-V also has rattles. I recommend this car highly.

  • Second Forester - 2010 Subaru Forester

First one went 180,000 miles, then head gasket leaked. Decided to trade in. Did the RAV4, CR-V, Forester loop, and returned to the Forester. The dealerships were the most professional of any brand. I will take it on long dirt roads for fishing, and love the better clearance. No longer a "small" SUV! At least not on the inside. My priorities are value, reliability and gas mileage. Two out of three aint bad, but I havent taken long trips yet, so maybe mileage will improve. Its got a miles-per-gallon display, which is nice. Same giant moonroof. Styling is sharper, and Im glad they didnt slope the roof any more.

  • Great car, but sold it after one year - 2010 Subaru Forester

I purchased a 2010 Limited when a job caused me to relocate to Mammoth Lakes, CA. We live at 8000 feet and we got oveer 50 feet of snow. With snow tires, the Forester never let us down. Its great turning radius, relatively high ground clearance and AWD handles the snow well. But, at this elevation, with only a 4 speed automatic, its missing a couple of cylinders. Transmission downshifts regularly on hills. And, it was a little small for my wife and me. Its great around town, but not great as a road car. This was our first Subaru and we traded it on an Outback which fits our needs. And, we traded it in for $2500 less than we paid after 18,000 miles!

  • Excellent all around - 2010 Subaru Forester

This is a lot of car for the money. You will be pleased with the performance of the engine, the handling and tight turn circle, heated seats, enormous sunroof, creature comforts, automatic climate control, visibility and other features. The car is fun to drive. No rattles after 3500 miles. CR rated very high (top) in small SUV category. I definitely agree.

I bought my Forester in July 2009 and this is February 18 2010. I personally like the interior and have not had problems with rattling inside the cabin. The radio is very weak and lacks good controls. I am satisfied with the mileage. I do very little city driving, mostly country and highway and I average 24-28 mpg. When I compare how the Foresters drive compares to my wifes Rav4, I prefer the Subaru any day due to the softer seats and better power steering. We have had over 40 inches of snow this winter in eastern KY and the Subaru has impressed me with the AWD on snowy and icy roads. The visibility is great and there is plenty of head room. Also plenty of room in the back.

  • Horrible transmission - 2010 Subaru Forester

It seems that any time I change speeds suddenly, my car revs up and feels like its stalling. The first time it happened, I was on a major highway and went to pass in the left lane when suddenly the car revved really high (as if I threw it into neutral and stepped on the gas pedal) and wasnt moving! I saw a car coming up on me in my rear view mirror and thought, "thats it, Im a goner!" Just today on my way to Subaru for the seat belt recall, as I pulled out onto the highway, the car revved to 5 and it felt like the gas pedal was stuck. When I slow down to make a turn at a corner, the car jerks when I put my foot back on the gas. 3x back to the dealer; they say thats how this trans works!

  • Definitely Love my Subaru - 2010 Subaru Forester

Bought my subaru in May 2010 - put 22,000 miles on it over the past 6 months -- 2500 where I was towing at the maximum capacity. I could not be happier with the performance. The seats could be more comfy, and yes - the cup holders absolutely suck (I was told by a guy in the service department to use a strip of foam-works pretty well). Its a great car at a great price - just wish they offered the leather interior w/the 5-speed!
