A very reliable car - 2001 Subaru Forester
By Bill - April 30 - 7:50 pmI bought this car new in late 2000. It has performed very well during that time. The 2.5 liter boxer engine provides sufficient power to maintain interstate speeds even while climbing some steep Appalachian Mtn. highways. The best feature of this car has been its utility. Weve loaded, hauled, and towed many different items with the Forester ... it has a lot of cargo room for its size class. My two biggest complaints have been: 1) outside of a large city, its difficult to find a quality garage to service the car 2) when in use, the cup holders block/prevent the use of the climate controls (I know thats picky, but after five years of ownership ... its really annoying).

Forester L - 2001 Subaru Forester
By brh1020 - September 2 - 10:00 amThis car is perfect for me and my dog. It is equally comfortable around town and also on moderate back roads. The clearance is great (compared to my old Maxima!) and I get great gas mileage (30/26).

Good Subie, once trannys fixed - 2001 Subaru Forester
By Secretsubie - September 22 - 10:00 amIve had my Forester for four years and almost 65,000 miles now, and overall its been a good buy. It averages about 27ish mpg, and its still fun to drive, with plenty of pep from its engine, paired with our five-speed manual transmission. About a year ago, we had problems with the clutch shuddering when the vehicle was cold, but the problem was fixed under warranty (apparently the early models were built with weaker clutch plates than needed). Weve been tempted with the turbo Foresters and the 2005, 250 hp Outbacks, but I think well keep this puppy around a few more years and a couple thousand more miles.

Great Car - 2001 Subaru Forester
By VTJoe - September 11 - 10:00 amMy 2001 Forester is a great car. It does everything I ask it to do. Ive never been short of space, it handles well, and many of the amenities make it fun to drive. There are never any problems with the service at Van Bortel Subaru in Victor, NY. Below book prices, no pressure from the service people and they do everything they can to make you want to come back.

Very Practical Ride - 2001 Subaru Forester
By jmurray - August 8 - 10:00 amBought the car new. Had to hunt down a manual trany but am glad we did. Car seems to be able to do whatever we ask it to do. We live in the north and have had no trouble with cold/ice/snow. We have a bunch of the extra features (brush guard, roof rack, tow pkg, side rock guards) and they all are very functional. No problems with tyres.

Safe, Excellent Reliability Car - 2001 Subaru Forester
By Subaru Owner - February 26 - 7:43 pmI have owned my Forester for over 6 years now and could not be more pleased. The AWD is very safe in the rain and ice. We even tried to get it to slide in bad weather and couldnt get it to! It has been very reliable and dependable and has held up well. I have only replaced one wheel bearing since I owned the car, everything else has been perfect. I would recommend this car to anyone who wants a safe reliable car that is very comfortable to drive.

Good car for the price! - 2001 Subaru Forester
By SJH - November 6 - 2:00 amAm a Subaru driver since 1990 ... this is a fine car, with very good reliability and, for an SUV, good gas mileage. Works great for me, someone who needs a wagon for dog and equipment. Appreciate its sportiness, as well.

I love my Subaru - 2001 Subaru Forester
By Andi - August 16 - 5:56 pmI am the 3rd owner of my 2001 Subaru Forester. I purchased the car used with about 143,000 miles on it. Its now at 155,000. So far in work I have had to replace a cracked CV boot but that was all that I HAD to do. I opted to replace the head gaskets because they were leaking, but the mechanic told me that it wasnt an immediate need. Eventually I replaced the windshield wiper arms, but it was a quick fix. I live in Northern Michigan and the car starts on - 30F days. It grips the road well when there is lots of snow and ice, as well as in the rain. I would definitely buy another Subaru Forester.

I love my Forester!!! - 2001 Subaru Forester
By Harry Velez - July 25 - 10:03 amI bought my Forester in 2001 and in all this time I have had to replace only the head lamps... only one if I remember correctly. Other than that I have 2 flats. Thats it. This car is the best performing vehicle I have ever owned. It runs great. It is comfortable. Its reliability is outstanding. Wish I could buy a new one... but the old one is just going too strong to consider that.
