Overview & Reviews
Noting Forester fans' desire for more power, Subaru adds a turbocharged XT model to the lineup. The XT is essentially a loaded XS with a 210-hp engine replacing the 165-hp motor.
- Standard all-wheel drive, two engine choices, availability of upscale features, class-leading crash test scores.
- Price can be higher than most of the competition, tight on legroom in the backseat.

Turbo blown - 2004 Subaru Forester
By Disappointed - March 23 - 12:26 pmBought this car used as the dealership reved about the longevity of the Subaru engine. At 135000 KMs the Turbo blew up. Car was always well maintained. Of course with the high miles the warranty had expired (for ileage not age) so no dealership would help. First and last Subaru Ill ever own.

DUMB-BAR = PAIN IN THE BACK - 2004 Subaru Forester
By dumb-bar victim - July 15 - 10:00 amBEFORE YOU BUY THIS CAR, CHECK THE LUMBAR SUPPORT IN THE DRIVERS SEAT. YOU CAN ZIP OPEN THE BACK OF THE DRIVERS SEAT. THE LUMBAR IS A STEEL ROD WITH A PEICE OF PLASTIC ON IT. IT WILL CAUSE YOU MAJOR BACK PAIN AFTER ABOUT 1500 MILES. YOUR SPINE WILL REST ON THIS BAR AND YOU WILL BE SORRY YOU BOUGHT A $27,000 CAR WITH 27 CENT LUMBER SUPPORT.

Avoid Sand and Gravel - 2004 Subaru Forester
By Unhappy Customer - March 12 - 3:10 pmDont drive this car on roads with sand or on gravel roads. The back door running board gets etched from the sprayed sand/gravel. The mud flaps do not help. Less than 20k and I have to repaint. Poor Design. My first and last Subaru. Ill go back to Honda.

Nice ride but paint and interior poor - 2004 Subaru Forester
By Vickie - February 10 - 12:06 amI enjoy my Forester but the paint (black) has not held up well at all. I thought Subaru was built for harsh weather. I live in the south - no snow and ice here. My drivers seat has a tear in the "leather" trim. My goal is to drive the car until it has 200K miles. I am guessing that I will have no paint left by that time. I took the car back to the dealer before the warranty expired and they could not help me with the paint. Are you kidding me - my next car will not be a Subaru for this reason alone.
