Significant changes accompany the Ion into 2005. A revised front fascia on sedans, as well as various other exterior trim and wheel upgrades, spruce up the Ion's outward appearance. Inside, new front and rear seats (on level 2 and 3 models) provide substantial comfort improvements, and a new steering wheel replaces last year's go-kartlike unit. Interior trim and materials have also been refined. Substantial improvements to noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) have been made possible through the use of Quiet Steel for the plenum and dash, an acoustic engine cover, and other powertrain and insulation enhancements. The electric power steering has been recalibrated, and various suspension revisions improve ride and handling. A four-speed automatic transmission replaces last year's five-speed unit and the coupe's CVT unit.

Never Again - 2005 Saturn ION
By Wilson - April 21 - 8:33 pmIve had nothing but problems, security system wont always let me start the car, had to replace the wheel bareings @ 50000kms, engine light comes on and off for a misfire, but mechanics can find nothing wrong with it, something wrong with the front end that makes my abs kick in, but again, mechanics cant find anything. Had to have a bushing replaced on it...not a good car

Red Line is fantastic - 2005 Saturn ION

The engine seemed weak to me on paper, but once you get in that red line and you feel the pull of that supercharger you realize this car is faster than any Saturn should ever be. No dent panels is a plus for us less than talented driveway drivers. Loves to sip the gas but...can accept both regular and premium gas and the car (itself) adjusts to the gas after 3 tanks of it. The pedals seem kind of close but Ive never driven a manual before. The shifts are crisp, the engine is responsive with no lag, and the steering is just fantastic (its assisted electronically). This car screams SLEEPER so catch your Zzzzs

Warm weather only! - 2005 Saturn ION
By Catt - February 28 - 10:03 pmAside from the plastic construction, & non-ergonomic interior, I can only recommend this car to be owned in warm climates. From my experience, once the temps fall to freezing, the anti-theft system in the steering column freezes, the engine is incapacitate & you are stranded. I have to carry a small electric heater & a very long extension cord with me & insure I park near an outside outlet. Getting rid of it as soon as possible, & I will never buy another. Saturn denies there is any problem with the anti-theft & will not remove it.

The ION is one of the safest cars on the road today and it fits so well into my life! I work for my home and car and on my last trip I got as good as 36 mpg - way better than any truck! Its also fun to drive and handles great. We are getting ready to start a family and this is the perfect size vehicle for that young, cool mom!

If youre into comfort and design in a car, this cars dual suicide doors make packing friends or cargo a breeze while compartments, switches, gauges and adapters are all placed around the driver where they should be. If youre into performance, this again is the pick of the litter. You can beat Porsches, BMWs, G35s, and every other car claiming to be a performance machine.

By Stan Thompson - November 14 - 4:50 amThe car has taut handling, is tight and rattle-free, and I like the clear line- of-sight to the center instrument console. The car is great in traffic and very responsive when accelerating. I took it into the mountains and it handled a 4000 climb with ease. It was a great buying experience and because leather was retro-fitted by the dealer I was allowed to choose from swatches giving me a two-tone interior with perforated leather in the center section with foam 1/4" thicker than standard. I like the revised grille for 2005. Im getting 27+ mpg.

The interior is roomy and comfortable. I get great gas mileage and would recommend this car to anyone. The buying experience was painless and great! This is one company who know how to please the consumer.

Saturn ION - A Better Small Car - 2005 Saturn ION

The last Saturn SL2 1997 model has proved to be trouble-free in over 175,000 miles, and I hope for the same with the ION. Fit and finish are several levels higher than the venerable SL2. it has avery quiet engine, and road and other exterior noise at highway speed is minimal. Like the SL2 this car is well-designed and very roomy, and very easy to maintain for the shade tree mechanic. Interior material looks Japanese/European in character. I really like the on-center instrument cluster and the white background guages. No need to expand the trade deficit, this is one domestic runner that will go the distance.

By QuadCoopsterPoopster - July 23 - 4:23 amThe Ion Quad-coupe 3 is a wonderfully fun car to drive, with good acceleration, wonderful handling, and responsive acceleration and steering, even for a 4-cylinder engine. All of the design flaws from the first ION have been resolved and improved upon (for instance, the NBA basketball- textured dash is gone), and even with the two rear suicide-doors, I was able to comfortably seat my elderly in-laws in the back seat comfortably for a long trip from Miami to Tampa and back. This is a truly wonderful car with a boatload of useable storage space in the trunk, and is also a real eye- catcher as well. Get the sunroof and the leather interior and ENJOY!
