Significant changes accompany the Ion into 2005. A revised front fascia on sedans, as well as various other exterior trim and wheel upgrades, spruce up the Ion's outward appearance. Inside, new front and rear seats (on level 2 and 3 models) provide substantial comfort improvements, and a new steering wheel replaces last year's go-kartlike unit. Interior trim and materials have also been refined. Substantial improvements to noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) have been made possible through the use of Quiet Steel for the plenum and dash, an acoustic engine cover, and other powertrain and insulation enhancements. The electric power steering has been recalibrated, and various suspension revisions improve ride and handling. A four-speed automatic transmission replaces last year's five-speed unit and the coupe's CVT unit.

Solid, Fun and Great Service - 2005 Saturn ION
By Todd - November 26 - 11:33 amI have thorougly enjoyed my Saturn and will certainly consider buying another. Two things that need serious improvement are some interior materials (cheap in some places) and it could use about 15-20 more horsepower.

Best car for the money and then some - 2005 Saturn ION

It handles extremely well, makes the tightest U-turns Ive ever found, and has plenty of power and acceleration. It has a ton or room in the trunk and in the cockpit, and is capable of seating four full-size adults without complaint. A keg fits nicely behind the front passenger seat and in front of the back seat and the suicide doors make it easy to get big items in and out of the back seat. Would prefer better gas mileage though, but who wouldnt?

Good solid transportation - 2005 Saturn ION

It is 5 speed manual and Im now getting 37 mpg by upshifting at 2000 rpm and keeping top speed to 70 mph. Really enjoy the smooth ride, relatively quiet engine since 05 have better insulation and great sound system with the extra speakers & amp. Safety is good since we got the side air bags and it already rates high for front impact protection. Only beef was problem with cruise control that did not want to work. They diagnosed (took too long) and is working fine for past year. Front seats are reasonably comfortable for long trips. All in all a very good value.

Pathetic Car - 2005 Saturn ION
By SamT - October 26 - 12:53 pmI had to get rid of my ION at 48,000 miles due to it needing more in repairs than the car was worth. At 48,000 miles, my transmission died due to a factory defect. SInce my car was out of warranty, Saturn wouldnt fix it for free. In addition to my blown transmission, I also needed a whole new valve body. The cost of the transmission and valve body was more than the car was worth. Im not a car expert but I know enough to know that cars shouldnt be done for before they reach 50,000 miles. My ION had other problems too, such as a faulty ignition starter that wouldnt always let me remove the key. Saturn wouldnt fix the problem or admit there was one. Terrible car, terrible company. Beware!

What we thought it would be....and more - 2005 Saturn ION
By Damian - September 20 - 12:00 amWe first saw the ION at the Auto Show in Houston in early February. The value and sharp looks attracted my wife and I to it right away. She was already driving a Saturn and loved it so we looked into getting her the ION. Its been just over a month and we absolutely love it. Handles extremely well and is very fun to drive. Guage cluster in the middle of the dash is different , but nice. Without a doubt, one of the best decisions weve ever made.

Very Satisifed Saturn Owner - 2005 Saturn ION
By David C - August 20 - 11:06 pmFrom the time I walked in the door at the dealership until the time I drove away with the car, it was an awesome experience. The salesman that took care of me was not interested in upselling but rather what I was looking for. I had done my homework online prior to buying so I new what I wanted which made it even easier. I have the ION 1 and its an incredibly fun car to own and drive. It has a huge amount of kick in the motor for a sedan, so it does make the road trips enjoyable. Gas mileage is just as good. The trunk space is a big factor since I do travel quite a bit.

I love my ION Red Line - 2005 Saturn ION
By XXAGILEXX - July 10 - 7:20 amI have had my Red Line for a lil over a year now. I love it! As a matter of fact my best friend took me to the dealer to buy it and ended up buying the same car. His black, mine red. He didnt believe me about it until he walked in and saw the car, and he asked " What is that, because I like it." So we got the last two on the lot for a steal because the 06s were pushing. He wanted a Mazda6, but forgot all about that when he got in the Red Line. Ion-1 - 2005 Saturn ION
By Jason - June 26 - 6:16 amBought this car new in May 2005 and had one problem with the transmission but havent had any other problems since. Im up to 47,000 miles now. A decent car overall. I average 32mpg driving conservatively and about 27mpg with no regard to fuel efficiency driving. The car has some zip if you need it. Nice thing about the plastic panels is that the car looks the same as I bought it new and I rarely go to the car wash. And replacing the panels is cheap if I have to.
