Overview & Reviews
After 12 long years in production, Saturn is finally retiring its aging S-Series sedan and coupe in favor of the all-new Saturn Ion sedan and innovative quad coupe.
- Innovative rear-access doors on coupe, customer-focused dealers, numerous personalization options, great cargo capacity.
- Build quality not up to segment standards, unusual styling, lack of established service and repair history.

taste of performance - 2003 Saturn ION
By donny - November 14 - 10:00 amJust came back from a trip to Eastern Kentucky. The curves combined with hills can be down right scarry for those who are not used to it. The car had descent pickup but could not turn the corners as well as the Chevy Astro I was trying to follow. High roof line also does not help with mpg. Car has great bottem end torque in the standard but the automatic acts like it has a stall converter and is always in the 3 grand to 4 grand in rpm for just normal cruising.

Almost 3 years - 2003 Saturn ION
By GaryM - September 23 - 1:20 amThe car has yet to let me down. I have had several trips to the dealer, and almost always got the car back while I waited. The free rental with my service contract made any overnight problems bearable. The tires seem to be about gone. This is a little better than I expected for OEM tires. The 16" low profile tires gave the car the best handling I have has with a small car. The transmission shifts good most of the time, but occasionaly hunts when the acceleration drops off near its shift point. The front seats have a tremendous amount of leg room. However, the rear seat passenger can loose all of their leg room to the front seat. The car is comfortable on long trips.

Non start problems - 2003 Saturn ION
By Unsatisfied - July 7 - 9:56 amWhy wont Saturn stand behind their vehicles? Only a week after purchasing my vehicle it wont start. Local repair shop said probably starter, decided to do a little research first, omg I cant believe the thousands of complaints on line. Dealers replace ignition switch which is faulty in the first place but they do not acknowledge that. Guess what the switch if you are lucky only lasts a year if that and then you are stuck with the same repair every year.

Terrible in Snow & Ice - 2003 Saturn ION
By Rob - June 7 - 2:36 pmLiked my SL1 better! Steering is terrible, never felt right since I bought it! Problem was fixed in 2005 model year. Ride is comfortable, seats stink, not enough support. Economy is okay at 29MPG average. Stereo was replaced 3 times in first year, but no other problems. Car is reliable transportation for short trips, not for long distances. Stay away from snow/ice, traction is poor at best. Excellent on dry pavement. Braking is very good. If you dont mind being thrown sideways when you hit bumps then this car will be satisfactory. If you want a car that handles well, try something else.

Forget the experts, Quad Coupe is great! - 2003 Saturn ION
By opiesmom - April 14 - 10:00 amForget the experts - talk to a Saturn owner. This is my 4th one and each one gets better than the last. The new quad coupe is roomier, faster, has a smoother ride and better suspension. Youll be amazed at the cargo capacity these little gems have. And its a littler power-house, a blast to drive! I dont know what the experts are comparing it to but there is NOTHING on the market in this price range that can match it, and htat doesnt even take into consideration the ease and pleasure of the buying experience.

Saturn ION a winner - 2003 Saturn ION
By David Knight - November 19 - 2:00 amOur 03 Saturn ION 3 replaced my wifes 96 Saturn SL1. It is our 4th Saturn. The purchase experience at Saturn of Richmond was everything Saturn claims about being no hassle. Service has always been excellent. The ION is a further step forward for Saturn, well built, and actually fun to drive. The leather seating is comfortable even on long trips. The car is peppy. The center instrument cluster actually provides better vision once you get used to it.
