Overview & Reviews
Significant changes accompany the Ion into 2005. A revised front fascia on sedans, as well as various other exterior trim and wheel upgrades, spruce up the Ion's outward appearance. Inside, new front and rear seats (on level 2 and 3 models) provide substantial comfort improvements, and a new steering wheel replaces last year's go-kartlike unit. Interior trim and materials have also been refined. Substantial improvements to noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) have been made possible through the use of Quiet Steel for the plenum and dash, an acoustic engine cover, and other powertrain and insulation enhancements. The electric power steering has been recalibrated, and various suspension revisions improve ride and handling. A four-speed automatic transmission replaces last year's five-speed unit and the coupe's CVT unit.

Could not be much better for the money. - 2005 Saturn ION
By Skylar Mazzola - November 14 - 10:40 amI love the car. The car is fast. The seats are wonderful and the engine is pretty much a work of art. The only thing that I can complain about is the rev limiter stops the fun. Also the tach is about 500-800 revs behind the engine which hurts performance. Other than that I love it.

Saturn ION - 2005 Saturn ION
By ion - October 31 - 7:26 amA great car, and Im very proud to drive it. I like the slim line body and it looks great. It drives easily, handles nicely, and brakes very well. Great gas mileage. I like the inside, everything is so together on the dash, it is just so nice to drive.

Fun Car - 2005 Saturn ION
By MDunne - October 26 - 11:20 amI put a lot of miles on a car in a year. I was really skeptical to buy a GM vehicle because of this. Im not sorry that I did. Extremely easy to perform routine maintenance.

Something different - 2005 Saturn ION
By JennyJ9986 - September 3 - 11:23 pmIf youre looking for something fun to drive, but you dont want the cost of an RSX or the unpleasant ride of an SRT-4, then an ION Redline is the way to go. Its fraternal twin the Colbalt SS has the same engine, however the seats are not as comfortable as the Recaros and it doesnt have the two suicide doors for easy access. I like those things so I went with the ION. As far as the center console, I think it allows me to see more of the road, so really its just a matter of getting used to it. Plus its got 5 star crash test ratings, so not only is it fast, but its safe too.

Best Car Ever! - 2005 Saturn ION
By My_Shell - August 25 - 11:43 amNot only was the purchasing experience amazing but the car itself surpasses expectations! It is amazing to drive! Very sporty feeling on the road yet compatible with family needs. The back "suicide" doors are not only attention grabbers, but fun and functional. The center dash mount is easy to get accustomed to and is a great conversation piece. Love this vehicle. The $3000.00 in rebates right now make this vehicle more than affordable. What a great purchase!!

My Last Saturn - 2005 Saturn ION
By sfr - August 22 - 6:50 amThis is my second and last Saturn vehicle. The ignition has been replaced three times in three years and is ready for a fourth replacement. Ive now developed a new problem where the power steering randomly cuts out but comes back if you turn the vehicle off and on again. I liked my first Saturn. The gas mileage is good - but there is a serious design flaw in the steering column architecture.

New Owner - 2005 Saturn ION
By KenSat - August 20 - 6:26 pmI am the new owner of a berry red ION 1. It was purchased as basic transportation-my only option is air condiditoning. So far I love it, it rides well, has more than adequate acceleration, and the chassis feels solid and rattle free. I chose a basic Saturn over more heavily optioned Korean models and I am glad I did...The engine, suspension, and other major mechanical (engine, suspension, body) items more than compensate for extra colors in the plastic on the dash or power windows. The seats are comfortable, if firm. I do wonder about the longevity of the fabric. I even like the center gauges so loathed by auto magazines.

Vehicle Rating - 2005 Saturn ION
By Tamara Manley - August 1 - 8:03 pmMy car, is literally my office. With all the driving that I do, I am very comfortable. Its great on gas, so it goes easy on my pocketbook. The dealership is also very friendly, and always makes me feel like I am the only customer there. The kids love the car, and when we go on long trips, everyone is comfortable, including my husband who is six foot, four. When I first looked at the car, I was never pressured into buying it, and I went back several times before I bought it.

Great Car - 2005 Saturn ION
By Brian - June 18 - 5:20 amThere are many cars for the same price and performance, what makes this one stand up? Well uniqueness will be my definition. Other small sport cars only have 2 doors and there rear seat passengers dont have easy access. others have 4 doors and they look like a sedan but with performance. this car does have four doors but once they are close it looks like one. Best part of all people think Saturns are family car with fuel economy and slow, well not the Red Line. 0 to 60 6.2 and 1/4 of the mile 14.80 not bad that all.

I had my-eye-on an ION. - 2005 Saturn ION
By Chris - June 16 - 6:13 pmI was unsure about buying a Saturn. I think it was because their are a lot of them on the roads and the older ones have that real plastic look to them. I think that my 2005 Saturn Ion is pretty sharp. It is fun to drive and it handles well in the snow, which is helpful here in Wisconsin. It really is a sharp car inside and out and I would recommend the Saturn Ion to anyone. Chris
