This Year's Model Updates:

Significant changes accompany the Ion into 2005. A revised front fascia on sedans, as well as various other exterior trim and wheel upgrades, spruce up the Ion's outward appearance. Inside, new front and rear seats (on level 2 and 3 models) provide substantial comfort improvements, and a new steering wheel replaces last year's go-kartlike unit. Interior trim and materials have also been refined. Substantial improvements to noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) have been made possible through the use of Quiet Steel for the plenum and dash, an acoustic engine cover, and other powertrain and insulation enhancements. The electric power steering has been recalibrated, and various suspension revisions improve ride and handling. A four-speed automatic transmission replaces last year's five-speed unit and the coupe's CVT unit.

  • Great car, even in accidents - 2005 Saturn ION

I was in an accident with mine and there was damage, but the dent resistent stuff really helped. There was not much body damage for a 35-40 mph impact. Both airbags went off, and no engine damage in our case. Great car to drive and now I feel even safer in it, at least from a head-on colission

  • 2005 ION 3 Great Car - 2005 Saturn ION

My ION has been trouble free after 6000 miles and rides great. Very quiet at idle/cruising and handles very well. The seats are quite comfortable. I have the 160 watt stereo with XM radio and it is worth every penny. I waited for the 2005 because I had heard of all the technical improvments being made. The effort Saturns engineers put into making this car quiet is very apparent. I would definitely buy this car again.

  • Impressive what theyve done - 2005 Saturn ION

I had a 2002 SL2, 5speed manual and traded it in on this car. Nicely optioned out with a "special value package" that I recommend. Overall the car is vastly improved over the previous model. An excellent daily commuter. Long trip this weekend, 450 miles, revealed no weaknesses. It is comfortable for three hour interstate drives, gets nearly 35mpg, has very good seat support. Its quiet, easily cruises at 75mph with no bad vibrations, and no undue harshness. Instrument dash "pod" is quirky but quickly adapted to. Excellent sight lines. Large trunk. Zero % three year financing, FREE 5year/60K BtoB extended warranty and $1,000 rebate/OnStar cash. Whats not to like in a $15,000 car?

I feel that this vehicle is a well built vehicle for a Saturn and is packed with performance that takes a lot of people by suprise, which is always fun to do.

For the money the Saturn Ion2 is a good buy. I have put 2,500 miles on it since I bought it and have had no problems with anything. It is fun to drive, has adequate pickup with the 140 HP engine. Mileage is good at 32 mpg for an automatic. The front grill is really a big improvement for the 2005. I think it looks great in the gold color with tan interior. GM has a winner for the price you pay.

Should Saturn/GM ever decide to advertise these cars, theyll be exposing the best kept secret in the car industry. This is a great car for a very reasonable price, about $12.5K after incentives w/ air, auto, CD player and floor mats. Rides and feels like a mid size car without all the bulk. The center instrument panel took no time to adapt to on the test drive, and has never been a problem since. This one belongs on your list. Test drive one and find out for yourself before letting your friends or reviewers decide for you. The only way to fairly evaluate one is to get behind the wheel of one.

  • Great Little Car - 2005 Saturn ION

Weve been looking for a car for our two new teen drivers, and after trying many used cars, we went to the Saturn dealership after our insurance agent suggested that we take a look. He told us that they are highly rated for safety, and because of the polymer panels, less costly to repair. Although there were some good deals on used models, with the current GM financial incentives, the low final cost of a new ION made it impossible to resist. Although its small, its also very comfortable for our 64" son and 510" daughter with lots of head, shoulder and leg room in the front. Its responsive, easy to handle, fuel efficient and quiet. Along with the safety features, its a real find!

This car is a great car to own. Not only is it affordable, but I am not paying a fortune at the gas pumps. I have owned it a year now and have had no problems other than a small kink that was fixed when I first purchased it. For the price its the best car around!!

  • No problems yet - 2005 Saturn ION

I bought my ion almost three years ago with 22k miles on it. Ive driven it every single day since then and have not had one single problem with it. the only time a mechanic touched it was to change the oil. its my first saturn and i have no reason to not buy another, my only complaint is that the suspension feels like its getting kinda mushy. Likes its not as tight as it was when i bought it.

  • What a great car! - 2005 Saturn ION

Have around 9k miles on it and still no major problems. Getting 28 mpg on the highway and 21 around town, with spirited driving. Get tons of compliments and have not regretted anything about the car. You get used to the center gauges in 2 days of driving. My dealership is close and good to deal with. Im glad GM has not let me down. Now the Stage kits are available things will get even more exciting with a 7k rev limiter, 240 hp and 235 lb-ft of torque. Cobalt SS owners wish they had known that they were basically the ame car but that the Redline was more unique, and functionally easier to use for everday life.
