Model Overview:

The Nissan Xterra is a traditional midsize SUV with seating for five and serious off-road capability. Thanks to stout body-on-frame construction shared with Nissan's Frontier pickup, the Xterra is a beast on the trail and can tolerate a fair amount of abuse. The downside is that this Nissan lacks the on-road polish of car-based crossover SUVs you might buy instead.

The Xterra debuted for the 2000 model year. Later Nissan Xterras are similar in appearance and personality to the early models but have a slightly longer wheelbase, a roomier interior, more power under the hood and a few extra features. If you want a reasonably priced off-roader and find the Jeep Wrangler too crude for everyday driving, the Xterra is worth a look.

  • Great Buy - 2006 Nissan Xterra

This SUV is a great purchase. Its functional and looks great. It handles perfectly off road. Even in a 2 ft. snowstorm it had no problems while other suvs were in the ditch. I wish the gearing in the transmission was set up a little different, but otherwise I love this car and will keep it until it dies.

this choice is a prime grade A choice,I drove test this truck on paved and off road and handled great on both terrains.when test driving one make sure you go thru your normal driving habits, and dont be afraid to treat it like a truck, because thats what it is, a truck with a suv body, which every suv should be. rough and tumble, I got the XE 2WD 5 speed, super black, which kicks, so far so good. buy one if this is what you are looking for in a suv, but if you want a sissy-like suv that drives like a car, look somewhere else.

  • Best All around SUV. - 2004 Nissan Xterra

Great in the snow and in the mountains. The gas mileage isnt the best but its a great car for any outdoor enthusiest and its still a great daily driver. It can handle any terrain you put in front of it and you can still get leather, a great stereo and comfortable ride even for long trips.

Awesome power going from 210 hp from the 180 hp. Makes a big difference. Very roomy and performes great. Only thing is, is that it recommends premium fuel with the supercharger. With gas prices up so high that could be a problem. But more than worth it.

  • Loving my Xterra - 2008 Nissan Xterra

I purchased by Xterra in 12/07 and love driving it. The whole family fights to get to drive it places. On an average day I drive 50-80 freeway miles and 10-15 in the neighborhood. I am getting 22-23 mpg. I am getting better than expected, because I expected it to the 12-13 like my dads Titan. TPremium fuel helps dramatically on the Nissans, and most Nissan owner manuals require it.

  • What SUVs were meant to be - 2000 Nissan Xterra

The Xterra has been an excellent truck. I expected a reliable, well-built vehicle, and thats what I got. It is great both on and off road; especially great in the snow. Needs a little more top end on the manual transmission, but great low-end power. I highly recommend this truck for anyone looking for a reasonably priced, well- performing SUV.

  • Incredible vehicle - 2001 Nissan Xterra

Ive owned the Xterra for over 5 years at this point, bought it when it had 30,000mi. The odometer just passed the 130,000mi mark and the vehicle is still in outstanding shape. The only oddball thing Ive had to replace is a bearing that supports the two-piece drive shaft, but I blame it on all the mud and water Ive intentionally not avoided. I couldnt afford the insurance for 4WD when I bought it, but I certainly dont regret going with the 2WD- Ive pushed this vehicle to the limit consistently on and off road, irresponsibly run the RPMs above 4K daily just to listen to the aftermarket parts work, and still, with typical maintenance (oil changes, trans flush), the X still runs strong.

  • Excellent car!! - 2000 Nissan Xterra

I purchased this car ten years ago, it now has 354,000 miles on it. Have only replaced transmission once, never had engine problems and now just needs a power steering line. Its very reliable and great for your money. I highly recommend this vehicle for anyone that uses highway miles a lot and desires to put lots of mileage on a car. I have been driving mines forever and I love the car....Its has exceeded its expectations at 354,000 miles...Unbelievable!!! Im passing it down to my son now.
