This Year's Model Updates:

The Xterra has been fully redesigned for 2005 with a new platform, a more powerful V6 and a more spacious interior.

Pros:
  • One of the most powerful V6s in the class, above average off-road capability, solid passenger room, innovative cargo features.
Cons:
  • Still not what we would call refined on the street, a few instances of low-grade interior materials.

  • Best true SUV - 2005 Nissan Xterra
    By -

If you are looking for a vehicle that puts the "Utility" back in SUV then this vehicle is for you. This is not one of those sissy soccer mom SUVs!!! I bought my Xterra a few months ago and I absolutely love it. There is no where this cannot go and nothing it cannot do. Thought about getting a Jeep Liberty (less interior room and more expensive) and a Toyota 4Runner (much more expensive feature-to- feature), but overall the Xterra was a much better value. Absolutely no regrets

  • Great Utilitarian SUV - 2005 Nissan Xterra
    By -

The 2005 Nissan XTerra SE is fully a utilitarian vehicle with a rugged design. The Rockford- Fosgate stereo addition is a very nice added feature. Seats are heavy duty and the included floor mats look like something from a constuction site (a good thing). Visibility out of this vehicle is excellent from all sides. Its a lot of fun to drive and has a youthful, sexy appeal to it. There is plenty of cargo room in the back. Has great side steps and a step on the back bumper to easily get to the roof for securing cargo. Ride is a bit rough, but that is fine with me -- it rides like a truck. I wont complain about gas mileage because, hey, its an SUV folks.

  • First Nissan and I love it! - 2005 Nissan Xterra
    By -

Ive owned Chevy SUVs in the past but had not driven one (SUV) for several years until the Xterra. I wanted one for awhile but the engine choices just seemed too limited and the design was almost there until the new style and engine of 2005. This is the most fun vehicle to drive ever! The fuel economy, while not the greatest, is admirable. I drive 90% on the highway and get about 21 mpg, however, you dont buy one of these for great mileage but for everything else this baby has to offer, and the list is huge. What a great experience this has been, of course Ive only had it a few months so hopefully Ill still be singing praises in a couple of years!

  • Transmission Failures - 2005 Nissan Xterra
    By -

2005 Nissan Xterras and Pathfinders have a known and fairly widespread problem with radiator failures. When the radiator fails, it dumps engine coolant (antifreeze) into the transmission. This of course ruins the transmission. Total repair cost is over $5,000. Nissan has not issued a service bulletin on this problem and according to senior person in "Consumer Relations" he had never heard of this problem before.

  • Love my X!! - 2005 Nissan Xterra
    By -

I love my X. Bought it in 2006 after a lost love affair with BMW. Had an X3 which I traded for the X-Terra. The X-Terra blows away the BMW. Love the stereo, though suggest if you like Sirius, get it factory installed. Love the seats, love the handling. There is a little paint drip mark on the rear gate, but I am a nitpicker. Handles like a dream, and, where flooding is prevalent, it skims over most anything. Highly recommend this SUV to anyone looking for a sporty, fun drive. Get the SE, or the Off- Road. Power doors/locks make the difference. Need to upgrade (too many guests in the car), cannot bring myself to get rid of my X-Terra.

  • dissappointed with nissan - 2005 Nissan Xterra
    By -

Loved the bright yellow color of this sporty suv. Boy was I dissappointed when the radio display malfunctioned at 15000 miles. I was even more dissappointed when the air condition went out completely. We live in Florida so air is a must and the compressor is pricey and should not have went out on a nissan so new. going to trade this on a RELIABLE toyota.

  • Solid - 2005 Nissan Xterra
    By -

The new 05 Xterra is solid in construction and handling. Ive only driven it 200 miles so far but I have notice a smoother ride, quiter engine and a decrease in air noise at highway speeds. By far this is the best Xterra I have ever owned!

  • Love It but - 2005 Nissan Xterra
    By -

Got Mine new. Loved it and babied it. Great power, handling and easy to drive and park. No problems at all. Literally NONE. Then.....75K and it fell apart. AC, water pump, differential, belt tensioner, rattles galore. It was like I got into someone elses vehicle. Maintenance was unbelievable. Hoses--- look out, there are a bunch and they COST. Brakes. WOW. Transmission fluid. Unbelievable. Sealed unit and ONLY dealer can get the "special" fluid easily. Nothing is ever in stock and will sit at dealer or even local guys) for days waiting. I still LOVE my baby, but Ford is my next bet.

  • All survived a roll - 2005 Nissan Xterra
    By -

I dont have too much to say as I only had the car about 3 weeks..BUT Just yesterday me and two other people went off an embankment and rolled my 2005 Xterra, two huge rocks impacted to car, one right above the drivers head. we walked away with only scratches and bruises. I know the official safety star rating is 4 stars, but I give it 5...and Ill be getting another one

  • Just purchased - initial reactions - 2005 Nissan Xterra
    By -

Id been casually shopping for a 2003-2005 Xterra for a few months. I really prefer the body style of the 2005-2009s so Ive been looking for one within my budget. Now that I have it, I couldnt be happier. I read a lot of reviews on the model so had a good idea of what to expect. The "get up and go" is fantastic. Im coming from driving a VW GTI, so I needed something with a little "oomph" that I was used to. I really like all of the clever compartments throughout the car (2 glove boxes, roof rack storage box, floor storage compartment under hatch bed, etc.). If you have a lot in your car, It helps to stay clean and organized.
