The Nissan Xterra is a traditional midsize SUV with seating for five and serious off-road capability. Thanks to stout body-on-frame construction shared with Nissan's Frontier pickup, the Xterra is a beast on the trail and can tolerate a fair amount of abuse. The downside is that this Nissan lacks the on-road polish of car-based crossover SUVs you might buy instead.
The Xterra debuted for the 2000 model year. Later Nissan Xterras are similar in appearance and personality to the early models but have a slightly longer wheelbase, a roomier interior, more power under the hood and a few extra features. If you want a reasonably priced off-roader and find the Jeep Wrangler too crude for everyday driving, the Xterra is worth a look.

Gotta Love it - 2004 Nissan Xterra
By Bobo - April 9 - 3:30 amI love my truck. Its rough but its not meant for comfort. Nothing i cant go over and nothing i cant clear. TIGHT vehicle. Its a gasaholic. I knew that though when i bought it. Everything i would want such as more storage and easier fold down rear were addressed in the second generation model. Its a Ballsy Truck.

Nice Work Nissan! - 2007 Nissan Xterra

The 6M is great to shift and I was sold when I found the cabin quiet on the highway and the fact that 6th gear revs quietly at a low 2300 rpm at 70 mph. This truck is a real good value although Id have paid more for a more luxurious interior. I drive the backroads to work and routinely get almost 20 mpg on 93 octane gas. Test drive an X for sure!

By Chocolate - April 5 - 7:00 amI LOVE IT! I LOVE IT! Ive driven Nissans before and I always said that I would get another one. I went to the dealership to get an Altima and left with an Xterra. It is SHARP,CUTE and I know for a fact that all nissans are dependable. I have been looking at the Xterra since it came out in 2000. I have always adored it. It has great storage the seats letting down was also a perk. To me, its a step down from the Armada. Yes, I said it. I have teenage and a school age children, plus a dog and we all love it. Try cruising in it on a pretty Spring day and everybody has a window. Then you will know what you are missing. This is 1 SUV that is worth the money. I chose this over Honda HAPPILY!!!

It will get you there. - 2001 Nissan Xterra
By nurd - March 31 - 8:21 pmI bought my 2001 Xterra with 73k on the O.D. after looking for a foreign 4x4 SUV it was the least expensive with the best options. I now have 155k on the Xterra and have had some very small things like a slow leak on a radiator hose that took me an hour to fix and $10. But I just had my A/C go out right before summer and we have had several 100+ days that have been miserable. Because of gas prices I want to sell it but then I get to go on a beach, camping or we get hit with a foot of snow and I fall back in love with my baby. This thing is a monster that will get you there every time. Love it and wont get rid of it.

Great off road SUV - 2007 Nissan Xterra
By luckyzsquirrel - March 31 - 12:40 pmThis vehicle has been truly a treat. Truly a great performer off road, and very decent on road. If youre never going to go off road I would not recommend, it rides a little rough than some would like, but if you are looking for a SUV that can actually climb rocky jeep trails you cant go wrong. The cargo area is NOT carpeted which makes very easy to clean.

My first vehicle - 2004 Nissan Xterra
By Brusko1972 - March 28 - 10:00 amI just bought my Xterra a week ago and I love it! fuel economy is terrible but Im hoping it will get better after breaking it in. Anybody know why the 5 speed towing capacity is 1500lbs less than the automatic? Anyways, Im glad I bought an Xterra because now my ride looks much better than my brothers Jeep Liberty and my mother in-laws RAV4 :-)

Solid - 2005 Nissan Xterra
By Gary - March 20 - 9:20 amThe new 05 Xterra is solid in construction and handling. Ive only driven it 200 miles so far but I have notice a smoother ride, quiter engine and a decrease in air noise at highway speeds. By far this is the best Xterra I have ever owned!

By Xterra Triste - March 14 - 10:00 amMy advice if you are planning on buying an Xterra: go manual (especially windows) and make sure to get plenty of racks because you wont want to put anything with an edge near the cheap plastic interior. Leave early if you are going up any hills, because its going to take you a while to get there. And if you plan on listening to CDs in the factory CD player, keep tweezers handy so you can the CD out.
