Overview & Reviews
The Nissan Xterra is a traditional midsize SUV with seating for five and serious off-road capability. Thanks to stout body-on-frame construction shared with Nissan's Frontier pickup, the Xterra is a beast on the trail and can tolerate a fair amount of abuse. The downside is that this Nissan lacks the on-road polish of car-based crossover SUVs you might buy instead.
The Xterra debuted for the 2000 model year. Later Nissan Xterras are similar in appearance and personality to the early models but have a slightly longer wheelbase, a roomier interior, more power under the hood and a few extra features. If you want a reasonably priced off-roader and find the Jeep Wrangler too crude for everyday driving, the Xterra is worth a look.

Love My New Xterra! - 2006 Nissan Xterra
By kris10joi - March 29 - 3:50 pmI purchased my Xterra on 31 January. Paid $1000 under invoice so I am very happy! Got the utility package because it was the best value for the step rails and the fold flat front seat. Powerful V6 and easy comfortable ride. This is my first SUV so I enjoy the size and being higher than most on the road which increases visibility. Plenty of storage room too! Great looking and practical SUV for a great price!

Mixed Emotions - 2004 Nissan Xterra
By Burnables - March 25 - 1:33 amI love the utility of this truck.Great for loading up the dog and the girl and heading up the White Mts for long weekends of hiking and camping, etc. Great for packing a lot of gear. The dog loves it, too. Only a few complaints..which really bug me...its loud driving on wet roads...sounds like a door is open in the back. Also, the thing lacks pick up on the low gears. No muscle.(I traded in my TACOMA for this dog of a truck.) It doesnt seem so strongly built either. The fenders are weak. Overall, it is a strong like. But, it aint no TACOMA TRD.

Loves Petro - 2004 Nissan Xterra
By NNeal - March 24 - 10:00 amThis vehicle is one of the most confusing things I have ever owned. To have a small 170 hp v6 this thing drinks more gas and puts out less power than anything out on the road.It is hard to love a car that on its best day gets 19 mpg and needs a good half mile of clear highway to pass another motorist. It is a joy to drive around town running errons but besides that it stay in my garage, I would never recomamend this one to anyone.

Love to drive it! - 2010 Nissan Xterra
By x-terra girl x 2 - March 22 - 3:16 amI replaced my 2000 x-terra (213,000 miles) with a 2010 x-terra off road. Loved my old buddy very much. I went from Manual to Automatic, which was good in some instances; tho I miss shifting. I travel in snow (sometimes up to the grill-with good tires) and travel off-road all year long and could not ask for a better SUV. "Sam" was a great truck, and now "SamSon" (yes I name my cars) will hopefully be with me 10 - 12 years. I highly recommend the X-Terra line.

Best Value for Nissan Nation - 2006 Nissan Xterra
By albo - March 9 - 1:13 amThis is a great vehicle that I have put a lot of miles on in a short time (125k in 4 yr) great acceleration and 4 wheel drive will take you about anywhere. The clutch went after about 50k miles, this must be a systemic problem cause I have had 4 other nissans with manual transmissions too and have never replaced a clutch! The drivers seat could be more comfortable on long drives. After owning a maxima, I know what Nissan can do when they put their mind to the task! I would like better gas mileage, but who wouldnt? This vehicle, like all nissans, is perhaps the best value for the money. I will own this truck for years to come. Keep up the good work. Nissan Nation rocks on!

Loved it until this year - 2005 Nissan Xterra
By dissappointed - March 1 - 10:00 amI bought it new, this year has been hell.I spent about 2k in one month. then the catalytic converters went out. Covered by warranty but Celebrity Nissan did a horrible job with the repair and charged me 200 for some testing that no one can explain. In the end Reed Nissan had to put a new engine in it about a month ago. Still having problems with transmission slipping but no one will take responsibility for it. Big surprise. Nissan of North America will do nothing for you if you have problems. I want to get rid of this car now. Until this year I loved it but Im so disappointed now with the dealership and Nissan in general. Does anyone stand behind their products anymore. NO!

Xterra - 2000 Nissan Xterra
By Bauer23169 - February 20 - 2:00 ami purchased this vehicle certified pre owned with 22k miles. right from the start it was my favorite suv, i have driven hundreds of different vehicles (sales and service) and hae not found anything like it. this is a true SPORT UTILITY VEHICLE. a lot complain about the ride and few features, new SUVs are more like Luxury Utility Vehicles. this vehicle is everything that nissan sells it as. from the medi kit in the trunk to the standard roof rack and SPORT amenities. this tough RELIABLE vehicle is a true SPORT Utility Vehicle
