Model Overview:

The Nissan Xterra is a traditional midsize SUV with seating for five and serious off-road capability. Thanks to stout body-on-frame construction shared with Nissan's Frontier pickup, the Xterra is a beast on the trail and can tolerate a fair amount of abuse. The downside is that this Nissan lacks the on-road polish of car-based crossover SUVs you might buy instead.

The Xterra debuted for the 2000 model year. Later Nissan Xterras are similar in appearance and personality to the early models but have a slightly longer wheelbase, a roomier interior, more power under the hood and a few extra features. If you want a reasonably priced off-roader and find the Jeep Wrangler too crude for everyday driving, the Xterra is worth a look.

  • a lot of bang for the buck - 2006 Nissan Xterra

  • WOW, what a truck!! - 2005 Nissan Xterra
    By -

I found the truck used on autotrader for $22,000 and i had to have it. i traded in my 2000 dodge ram in to get it, and havent looked back yet. I would suggest it to anyone who is wanting a larger SUV without the fuel economy of an 8 cyl gas guzzler. It has plenty of power (265 hp) and plenty of ground clearance. I get alot of looks driving my jet black xterra with my xm blairing "the squiz" going down the road. Fantastic truck. Highly recomended!

  • Gutless Gashog - 2003 Nissan Xterra

This car is a piece. It gets horrible gas milage. For example I drove from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles and filled up 6 Times fully. My fiance Drove his pontiac gran prix the same distance and filled up twice. This car is also a GUTLESS WONDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You pull out any where with good distance and within seconds the car you pulled out in front of is on your tail thinking your an old person when really your a 19 year old driving a big ol piece of junk. I will never buy another one of theese or recommend it to anyone. Sadly I would rather have any Jeep even though they were ranked the worst car ever built!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome Off Road - 2003 Nissan Xterra
    By -

I have not gotten stranded anywhere Ive gone off road. The clearance is 10.3 inches (tallest in its class). Xterras have an excellent approach angle. The fuel mileage is not bad (18.5)for the weight:engine size ratio. Get the SE/SC model if you can cough up the cash. Plenty of leg room for all 5 (five) passengers and room for lots of gear (for 2-3 people). Roof rack is sturdy with lots of optional attatment available from YAKIMA.com Audio equipment is awesome. A/C and heater work great. There is lots of room in the fender wells for big meats and turning radius is tight. Test drive one and see for your self, not just on the pavement either.

  • Love it - 2010 Nissan Xterra
    By -

I bought this vehicle wanting to have a multipurpose vehicle that could also pull a boat. I looked at the CRV, ford escape, Rav4, 4runner. The first 3 really couldnt do the job of pulling a boat and are really more of a car dressed as an SUV. The 4 runner is nice, but too big to also have in the city and also expensive. So far the Xterra has been perfect. I have taken it on and off road many times and it handles great. Definitely more of a truck ride, but on any half decent road it feels just like any other modern vehicle.

  • Great driving SUV - 2010 Nissan Xterra

Replaced a 97 4Runner with a 2010 Xterra. Had my doubts initially, but after 3 months I am sold! Im 65" and fit comfortably. Lots of cargo room. Great visibility, and really responsive steering. More fun to drive than the 4Runner was. At 178" it is easy to park and maneuver in tight surroundings. Smooth transmission, smooth ride, and quieter than I was expecting. Love the fact that the rear seats fold flat. No regrets.

  • Love my xterra - 2000 Nissan Xterra

I recently bought a used 2000 xterra. It had about 118,000 miles on it, and is 12 years old, but still runs great. I love the way it looks, and drives. Gas mileage isnt the greatest but I dont do that much driving so its ok. I did have to replace the distributor, which was about 350.00 but other than that its been great, and I love it! Ive had it for 6 months and still love it like I did when I bought it. They didnt have the option that mine is but it is a SE automatic 4x4

  • Fun to drive, but.... - 2004 Nissan Xterra
    By -

I bought this "truck" a week ago and its a fun toy, but very uncomfortable in city driving & freeways (bumpy & I could feel every roll) & horrible fuel economy ($32 for a full tank). I do like the off road driving (a "nature- type" SUV -- excellent in the Northwest), the sounds (cd player) and the look. Only time will tell if i will be totally satisfied.

  • A real SUV on todays market - 2002 Nissan Xterra
    By -

I felt in love with this SUV when I first saw it. The style is just so cool. There are no many SUV on todays market. First of all, let me say this, to me there is no such thing as a luxury SUV. A SUV is a SUV. A Sport Utility Vehile to handle the tasks that you want to do. . That is why I like the Xterra. No leather seat and those luxurious nonsense. A true SUV!
