Overview & Reviews
The Nissan Xterra is a traditional midsize SUV with seating for five and serious off-road capability. Thanks to stout body-on-frame construction shared with Nissan's Frontier pickup, the Xterra is a beast on the trail and can tolerate a fair amount of abuse. The downside is that this Nissan lacks the on-road polish of car-based crossover SUVs you might buy instead.
The Xterra debuted for the 2000 model year. Later Nissan Xterras are similar in appearance and personality to the early models but have a slightly longer wheelbase, a roomier interior, more power under the hood and a few extra features. If you want a reasonably priced off-roader and find the Jeep Wrangler too crude for everyday driving, the Xterra is worth a look.

I Made it to 140k Miles - 2005 Nissan Xterra
By silentrick - July 7 - 6:47 amI have been pretty pleased overall with my 2005 Xterra. I have over 140,000 miles on it and Im just now experiencing major issues with it. Ive had recurring issues with the O2 sensors going out more than once and now I need a new catalytic converter. I wasnt aware of the transmission and radiator issues on the 2005 models until I read this post. As it turns out, I too have an issue with a cracked radiator leaking into my tranny and now I need to replace both. I thought it could have been due to a minor fender bender a few months back but now Im not so sure, especially because I was hit in the rear. Seems like I got lucky to have made it as far as I did on mine.

real suv - 2000 Nissan Xterra
By xterra fan - July 4 - 10:00 amI purchased this vehicle with 50k on it. It has been the most fun to drive vehicle Ive ever owned. It has a much better feel off road and on than my previous explorer. It still feels tighter than my explorer did when it was new.

Luv my Xterra ! - 2003 Nissan Xterra
By Kelly in Charleston - July 2 - 4:10 pmI am past the "soccer mom" stage and wanted something FUN to drive. My entire family drives, or has previously driven, Nissans so the choice was easy. I would only trade my 2003 Xterra for a new one. It is the perfect weekend and/or tailgate vehicle. The seats are a bit uncomfortable but the Rockford Fosgate stereo ROCKS ! You dont buy an Xterra for the mileage but it is as good or better than most SUVs. I highly recommend the Nissan Xterra !

Love it! - 2008 Nissan Xterra
By Wafubu - July 2 - 6:33 amIve owned 4 Hondas of which 2 were CR-v (07 and 08). Compared to the Xterra they didnt stand a chance. The Xterra is solidly built and they thought of everything. Also you get so many features compared to the Hondas and the Xterra is customizable. I really love mine. Ive had it for 3 days so far, but I am really enjoying the ride. Its high up, visibility is great, and its built so solid. No annoying rattles, etc. The plastic interior is very high quality and I feel that its laid out perfect. Everything is in the right place. Power everything, mirrors, doors, windows. and it came with high quality mats even! I hope Nissan keeps up with not sacrificing quality.

Good enough to keep - 2003 Nissan Xterra
By KP - July 1 - 12:10 amHad some issues with the power windows and had them replaced under warranty. Still have occasional problems with it. Had a significant problem with the A/C, basically had it replaced only after 3 years. The first repair under warranty was poorly done by dealer. So, I had to pay out of pocket. I drive several hours at a time occasionally and would like to have a more comfortable seat. Fuel economy approaches 20 at 65 using fully synthetic oil. Needs a bit more highway merging power about 15-20% would do.

Best Ride Yet From Nissan - 2010 Nissan Xterra
By JTCKC - June 30 - 6:10 amThis is my second Nissan Xterra. I went in to the dealership for my regular maintenance and decided to trade up. Leather, GPS, xm radio, 4.0 v6 17" wheels with rims. Man this is a fantastic upgrade. I loved my 2007 Xterra, but they bought it for more than I owed and got me in a new one for a better payment. Ill never drive anything else. I love everything about it. Youd be crazy to pass one up. I never had 1 issue with my 2007 and this one outshines the 2007 by far. I look forward to driving this for a long time to come!!
