For 2004, 17-inch alloy wheels are now standard on non-supercharged SE models, and 16-inch, four-spoke alloys are standard on the XE-V6.

Pros:
  • Rugged looks and the off-road capability to match, lots of room inside, solid construction.
Cons:
  • Sloppy on-road ride and steering, four-cylinder and standard V6 lack power, spartan cabin design.

  • Best All around SUV. - 2004 Nissan Xterra

Great in the snow and in the mountains. The gas mileage isnt the best but its a great car for any outdoor enthusiast and its still a great daily driver. It can handle any terrain you put in front of it and you can still get leather, a great stereo and comfortable ride even for long trips.

Awesome power going from 210 hp from the 180 hp. Makes a big difference. Very roomy and performes great. Only thing is, is that it recommends premium fuel with the supercharger. With gas prices up so high that could be a problem. But more than worth it.

I got my x brand new in 2003, I drive a lot on the road with work, I have 201,001 miles on it, I get it serviced once a year, I use only bf goodwich tires ruggend trail, so these people saying they got stuck in the mud and snow, can u drive, I like to fish, go go down in the ditch and the x brings me back out, ive driven my x in 32 states in the rain, snow, ice, Ive had no problems. And the super charger has no problem getting up and going. Besides normal wear and tear, I have no problems with my suv, I use full syn oil and fuilds, I only changed my oil once ever 10-12,000 miles, I get 17- 21 miles per gal, if u want a good suv for yrs to come this is it, Im over 200k and running strong!

  • MY BUTT HURTS - 2004 Nissan Xterra
    By -

I drove it 900 miles this week and my butt hurts. Extra foam and a Sheep skin seat cover helps some. 100% city driving gave 15mpg and interstate gives 18 on windy days and 19.5 on calm days. At 4500 miles the only problem was an oil leak at a plug near the oil filter. The odometer is off by 3.4% so to be fair you can add another .5mpg to the above MPG. The dealer says the odometer can not be adjusted. I have a 02 Tahoe with 105 more HP and 1000lbs heavier and it gets better MPG, 16 city and the last highway trip was 21MPG(honest injun). AND ABOVE ALL IT DOES NOT MAKE MY BUTT HURT. My first NISSAN and Im not happy. Time will tell.

  • Dependable! - 2004 Nissan Xterra

My first Xterra was a total loss due to a careless driver who pulled out and rolled my truck. This vehicle was incredibly tough. I had a seat belt on and came through the accident without a scratch! I honestly love the Xterra. I feel it safe and reliable. I bought another. I love the look and know I can load up the dog, bikes, camping gear, and a couple of friends! It is a good buy for the 2004 models. I love shifting on the fly, it does well in the snow! This is a well built vehicle! I love it!

  • Disappointment - 2004 Nissan Xterra
    By -

I was pretty disappointed with my Xterra. If all you need is something to look cute driving around town, youll enjoy the Xterras rugged looks and relatively easy handling. Try and get it dirty however and youll be disappointed. It slips easily in ice and snow (turning, even with 4WD is precarious), the mud factor wasnt great either, even in 4WD low. The interior is hard to keep clean, and the outside dents easily. Passing people on the highway is nearly impossible, even with the bigger engine option. And of course, fuel economy is horrendous with gas as much as it is now.
