This Year's Model Updates:

The Xterra has been fully redesigned for 2005 with a new platform, a more powerful V6 and a more spacious interior.

Pros:
  • One of the most powerful V6s in the class, above average off-road capability, solid passenger room, innovative cargo features.
Cons:
  • Still not what we would call refined on the street, a few instances of low-grade interior materials.

I love it. Im a distance runner and it gets me where I want to go even without the 4 wheel drive its still a very useful vehicle.

  • The BEST ever!! - 2005 Nissan Xterra

This SUV is so awesome. My husband was not too sure about my choice. After riding in this only twice...he now wants one for himself. He loves the huge truck tires. This rides and drives like a truck. The insurance rate was so low. I went from a 98 dodge van to this vehicle and only raised my monthly insurance by $15. WOW! This is a truly amazing vehicle. I will never own anything else. Keep it UP!!

  • Practical Fun - 2005 Nissan Xterra

This is a fun car to drive with a lot of pluses, although there are also some negatives. The pluses include the industrial styling - if thats your thing, lots of power, storage galore, easy to clean interior, vehicle stability control, low tire pressure warning gauge, very quiet interior - even at 80+mph, interior tie down points everywhere, great door cup holders, and a great sounding stereo system. The negatives include interior plastic pieces that scratch very easily, chintzy chrome handles, semi-functional center cup holders, difficult rear entry/exit due to short wheelbase, base stereo does not read MP3 cds or have an auxiliary audio input.

  • Great vehicle, weak dealerships - 2005 Nissan Xterra

After 16 months, Im still completely satisfied with the Xterra. Nissans support network is another matter. One dealership totally botched the recall work on the factory trailer hitch; another botched a simple repair on some interior trim. My experience is that theres great design and quality control at the factory, but the dealer network needs to be brought up to a higher standard. Nonetheless its an easy to drive, well designed SUV with versatile interior space and good ergonomics. Just hope you can avoid the dealers service department!

I really love driving this vehicle! Love the stiff suspension, quick tight responsive steering and the added horse power.

  • Well rounded suv - 2005 Nissan Xterra

This vehicle has surprised me every time I drive it. It has superior handling for a truck based SUV and is extremely powerful for a V6. On a recent 1500 mile trip averaged 23 mpg. Was extremely comfortable, even if the ride is tuned on the sporty side. Overall I would recommend to anyone looking for a rugged and fun to drive SUV to check it out!

  • What a terrific 4x4 ! - 2005 Nissan Xterra

Ive driven Mitsubishi Monteros since 1984 in Saudi, China Indonesia, Greece and the U.S.; in dificult off-road terrains in all weather conditions. This is our second Xterra(previous one was a 2003 SE),and I simply love it. More power, better on and off-road manners and abilty/prowess. One complaint:make the outside temperature gauge standard, add a compass (much needed!) and make the arm-rest on top of the center console slideable(back and forth, on a hidden track just like the Mitsu Monteros; post-2003 models) Then,do nothing! Youll have the perfect 4x4 SUV! fyi: Im taking my 05 Xterra to Greece this April to October for some serious offroading; just like last year and the year before with the Montero!

  • Loved it. now I hate it. - 2005 Nissan Xterra

Everything I needed in a SUV and the stereo was simply the best. I had 3 trouble free years with the exception of the trailer hitch recall. Then the first of what was to become an endless string of repairs began with the $500 gas sender. Another known defective Nissan part that we the consumer had to eat. 3 months later, new brakes and front U joints. New battery and tires at 40,000 miles. Had the recall for the airbag sensor fixed in early 2010 along with a radiator flush. This September fell victim to the radiator failure/ tranny fry. Im having it fixed independently as Nissan refused any assistance. I am also suing Nissan for my costs. Been a Nissan man for a while. No more.

  • Shame on Nissan!! - 2005 Nissan Xterra

Purchased at 64000 miles, drove it, loved it, no problems at all other than the tire pressure light after so many miles of consistent driving. Then, at 121,000 miles, boom... transmission failure. Upon further research, it is a NISSAN DEFECT in the radiator that Nissan refuses to address more than a little warranty increase, and even THAT took a lawsuit. I spent $3000+ over a period of 8 months to fix it and it still wasnt fixed. I had to purchase another vehicle to drive while it was down. I ran out of money, so I was forced to trade the XTerra with $3500 of negative equity, totaling near $7000 that I lost on this vehicle, due to Nissan and its ways. NEVER. AGAIN.

  • Sporty, Sporty and Fun! - 2005 Nissan Xterra

I started shopping for a new vehicle the beginning of last year. Not one to make hasty decisions, I did my homework and finally settled on the XTerra months later. Man, am I happy I made the choice to buy this car!! The X is sporty, reliable and a blast to drive! I live on a dirt road that floods after rain and ruts out through the summer. The X rolls through both puddles and ditches without any problem. The ride is a little bumpy. Thats what you get when you buy an off road vehicle. My car easily holds all my supplies for work, play, and most importantly my 105 lb.dog.
