This Year's Model Updates:

The Xterra has been fully redesigned for 2005 with a new platform, a more powerful V6 and a more spacious interior.

Pros:
  • One of the most powerful V6s in the class, above average off-road capability, solid passenger room, innovative cargo features.
Cons:
  • Still not what we would call refined on the street, a few instances of low-grade interior materials.

  • It was a keeper - 2005 Nissan Xterra

Fell in love by the time I pulled out on the test drive that lasted less than 3 minutes. Fantastic in the rain and floods we have here. Too bad I could only get 3 tanks of gas into it before I was broadsided and totaled. He hit me doing over 60mph. Thought I was going over, but the stability controls and such kept me pointed and landed safe and sound. RECOMMEND the side air bags. It was the one option I didnt care about and turned out it saved me from major injury. Next one will be yellow so even another "vision impaired" driver can see me. Just waiting for Farmers to get me a check.

  • In Front of the Class... - 2005 Nissan Xterra

My last Nissan, was a 1994 Pathfinder, which is still running like new, so when it came time to purchase a new model, the New Pathfinder didnt fit what I was exactly looking for, so I decided to test drive the 2005 Xterra. It was love all over again... The Xterra is an incredible off road SUV, and drives pretty comfortably in the city too. I am so pleased with my final decision to purchase the new Xterra... If you want a true SUV, Xterra is the model you should check out, because it is an incredible SUV.

  • New Xterra well designed - 2005 Nissan Xterra

Nissans entire product line has come a long way since its bland offerings of the late 90s. The new Xterra is no exception. Traded a 2 year old RAV4 with a rattly dashboard and 4 cyl. engine. This is my wifes car. I have an 04 Frontier w/3.3 liter engine (same as 04 Xterra). 4.0 liter in 05 is noticable peppier. We actually went to buy an 04 on clearance and decided to spring for the extra $. My wife loves it and it is a head turner. Test drove a Highlander (nice car, but boring) and a Pilot (surprisely uncomfortable seats) and settled on this cool car and Nissans reputation for dependability. Similar to Pathfinder in looks, but a lot more affordable.

  • Wills "Xterra" Files - 2005 Nissan Xterra

I previously owned a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder and purchased a 2003 Toyota Tundra. I missed the capabilities of an SUV and my 2005 Xterra SE 4x4 has filled the void! Love the "new" style. The 265 hp engine delivers. Solid and sturdy on the highway and looking forward to taking in off-road. Lots of storage space and the rear bumper step feature along with tubular steps helps access the roof rack. The 380 watt Rockford Fosgate audio system "rocks". You feel the deep bass in the driver seat.

  • Great Buy! - 2005 Nissan Xterra

I just got my Xterra and have been driving it like crazy. The engine performs beautifully and it rides very nicely on the highway, even at cruising speed the car maintains a nice quiet interior. Lots of room and great places for storage. I could not be happier with my choice. In its class there isnt a better SUV on the market. Lots of power, very functional, great design, all in all a great buy.

  • 2005 Xterra- Great drive - 2005 Nissan Xterra

We recently purchased an 05 Xterra to replace the wifes Subaru Outback. The Xterra has a solid feel to it. The engine delivers excellent low end power & the acceleration is great even adhering to the 4K rpm break-in limit. The ride is firm without being harsh. The steering is a bit vague on center but the overall feel is good. The brake pedal feels a bit soft but the stopping action is very good. The seats are firm but could use more side support. Overall the Xterra is an excellent choice.

  • No complaints - 2005 Nissan Xterra

I thought Id write a review since I have been using Edmunds for some time now and I found the other reviews helpful. I have owned this truck for a month and have had nothing but fun driving it. I havent used it off road, but you can feel it wants to tear it up. It has good acceleration with the 6 speed and it cruises at 80m.p.h. on the highways without even trying, around 2500rpm. I would purchase this car again in a second. My other car is a BMW540i and Im driving this one more. I never thought Id ever say that about another car. So, I seriously have no complaints.

  • 2005 Solar Yellow X - WOW! Lotsa power! - 2005 Nissan Xterra
    By -

Im a former Nissan Pathfinder owner (2001 & 2003) who recently "stepped down" to a 2005 Xterra. Well, I realized quickly that there was hardly any "stepping down" whatsoever once I actually started driving the X on a daily basis! This baby is fun to drive and the 2005 has plenty of power (watch your speedometer or old Smokie will get you!!!!) Also, the new 4.0/265HP Engine actually gets better gas mileage than my previous 2 Pathys ever got - and although this is a SUV, gas mileage so far is more than acceptable and I dont think it will be an issue for me at all. Lots of great forums for Xterra owners (do a google search) and you will see more than enough information on the great X!

nice. nice. nice. bought this vehicle to help me rebuild after Hurricane Katrina. The shock came when I was able to haul a 5ft patio door with ease.

  • Great truck, but we dont all surf Calf. - 2005 Nissan Xterra

The off-road X-terra I bought is a great combination suv to drive to were you want to go off road, and then to go off-road. It compares favorably with the Jeep Wrangler off-road, but gives you a lot more comfort on the highway. It also has a lot more room inside, and great storage system inside and out. Much wider and roomier than the previous X-Terras. My only major complaint is with the idiot engineerwho took the sunroof out and replaced it with that plastic bucket and cover on the roof. Now its supposed to be for wet things, like I want to put my dead fish up there, so it can drip on my roof and get baked in. NICE SMELLING TRUCK DUDE, maybe my waders after a duck hunt so they freeze in.
