Model Overview:

The Nissan Xterra is a traditional midsize SUV with seating for five and serious off-road capability. Thanks to stout body-on-frame construction shared with Nissan's Frontier pickup, the Xterra is a beast on the trail and can tolerate a fair amount of abuse. The downside is that this Nissan lacks the on-road polish of car-based crossover SUVs you might buy instead.

The Xterra debuted for the 2000 model year. Later Nissan Xterras are similar in appearance and personality to the early models but have a slightly longer wheelbase, a roomier interior, more power under the hood and a few extra features. If you want a reasonably priced off-roader and find the Jeep Wrangler too crude for everyday driving, the Xterra is worth a look.

The X is an Awesome SUV! I test drove a lot of other SUVs and the X just offers more bang for the buck. -Get the 4-wheel drive. As soon as you get it home you want to get it muddy. And 4x4 insures your ride home-not INTO the mud! -I bought the X with the stereo upgrade, but an in-dash DVD nav sys would be nice. I have a handheld and that is better for me anyway. (I can take it with me into the woods). -I like the engine configuration. It is mounted rotated to the left. This also allows easier maintenance for mechanical and electrical systems. The X is a very well thought out design and is truly driven by whats inside, the 24-year-olds that buy it.

  • SUV that is really solid, not fake - 2004 Nissan Xterra

I have owned this car for 6 months now, and have no complaints at all so far, is solid like a rock, and very fun to drive. Is not like one of those SUV that look much more like a sedan on the inside, is rather basic and rough, but is still very quiet in the inside, seats are comfortable, and has a lot of pockets and compartments all over. AC and heater are great, factory stereo has a decent sound, manual transmission is smooth (for an off-road SUV) and looks fantastic, all your neighbors will notice it, thats for sure.

  • 112,359 miles and still going strong - 2006 Nissan Xterra

Pros; My 2006 Nissan Xterra Just had a few updates at 112,000 miles, new brakes, rotors, tires Generals, Synthetic oil change, and filter, transmission flush, added external transmission cooler, eliminated radiator transmission cooler. Cons; timing chain guide problems, very expensive $ 1800., Mine did not have this probem, Radiator fails leaks coolant in to transmission ruining transmission, $ 3800 repair. Mine did not have this problem. I added external transmission cooler, and eliminated the possible problem.

  • This is a fun vehicle - 2000 Nissan Xterra

I purchased this vehicle with 70,000 miles on it and I have taken it all over the great outdoors and it is more fun than any other vehicle I have ever owned.

  • Go Out & Getchu One - 2003 Nissan Xterra

I had originally planned on purchasing an XE/SE model but opted for the S/C for all of its upgrades (fat tires/charcoal rims/black&blue interior/and oh yeah, the supercharger. For those of you looking for an SUV that has the off-road capability of a Wrangler; go for the Xterra. Its a blast to drive. I didnt get the same excitement from the VUE, or the CRV. I reccommend these for the grocery getters out there. But if youre the type to strap some kayaks, or mountain bikes to the roof, the Xterra will get you anywhere you want to go.

  • A great truck for the buck! - 2003 Nissan Xterra

Well built. Solid construction and ride. Not a wussy SUV that started out as a car platform.

  • Trendy! - 2003 Nissan Xterra

I LOVE my little Xterra! I bought it because I needed towing capacity but didnt want a huge SUV or a pick-up. My camper weighs approx. 3500 pounds fully loaded and it tows my camper like a dream. It uses far too much gas however. The first time my teenage granddaughters saw it they said, "Wow, Grandma - thats so trendy!" I feel like the coolest person on the road when I am driving it!

  • A truck with a cabin and a V6stick shift - 2004 Nissan Xterra

The tow rating is marked down 1500lbs in the manual, becuase people just dont know how to drive it. Excelleration is excellent, top end isnt bad...but its high. But, its also a truck, not a car on stilts. Dont buy this truck if you want luxury, or are just going to stay on- road. Its plainly ugly, but it does go every where and anywhere. I love the practicality and ruggedness of this truck.

  • Fun to Drive SUV - 2005 Nissan Xterra
    By -

I purchased my 2005 Xterra almost 2 months ago and Im loving every day in it. The Power is more than Ill ever need and the styling is much improved over the previous model. I really like the interior design and the front and rear seats are very comfortable. The dash is well organized and easy to access. The ride is more truck-like than car like-on the street, but its a trade-off Ill make for this beast. My fuel efficiency has been around 16 in the city so be prepared to pay for the thrill. The radio has ok reception but the CD player sounds great. The rear seats are very easy to remove for extra space.
