Model Overview:

The Nissan Xterra is a traditional midsize SUV with seating for five and serious off-road capability. Thanks to stout body-on-frame construction shared with Nissan's Frontier pickup, the Xterra is a beast on the trail and can tolerate a fair amount of abuse. The downside is that this Nissan lacks the on-road polish of car-based crossover SUVs you might buy instead.

The Xterra debuted for the 2000 model year. Later Nissan Xterras are similar in appearance and personality to the early models but have a slightly longer wheelbase, a roomier interior, more power under the hood and a few extra features. If you want a reasonably priced off-roader and find the Jeep Wrangler too crude for everyday driving, the Xterra is worth a look.

  • Xterra to the nth Power - 2005 Nissan Xterra

Ive been looking for an SUV that looks good and fun to drive and Ive found it in the 2005 Xterra. This SUV is awesome with its new upgraded engine, interior, exterior, and a whole lot more. Ive been driving this SUV under both street and offroad conditions for the past month and all I have to say is, WOW!!! Its 265HP-V6 has got to be the best upgrade Nissan has given the Xterra. The difference in handling and performance between the 2005 and 2004 model is night and day, not to mention the roominess of the interior compartment!!! If you are looking for a reasonably priced SUV that has everything youll ever need, you cant go wrong with the 2005 Xterra!! One word - AWESOME!!

  • Xterra the best car ever - 2004 Nissan Xterra

I bought my xterra new and use it for work and do a lot of driving . I have 210,990 miles and do all the required maint. Oil every 4-5000 miles. Trans fluid every 50k. Tune-up was done at 150k w/timing belt. Didnt need water pump but changed it anyway. Shocks (factory stock at 40k not that good ) but since then) kybs no prob! The only prob is break dust on front rims, hard to keep clean. Breaks every 30k easy to do my self. Engine strong overall very strong .

  • Great SUV - 2006 Nissan Xterra

I have usually owned trucks, but I thought I would like the versatility of an SUV and I was right. I could not be happier. It comfortably accomodates my family of four plus whatever gear we need to carry. The gas mileage is about what I expected, better than the fullsize, but still pretty decent for the amount of performance you get out of the 4.0 V6.

I like most everthing. Rides good for what it is. low end insides. 300 h p gas with 180 hp. Does not even get 18 on the freeway. Like all cars you only get the low number. Over all for the price its all good.

  • Quality Of Parts Questionable. - 2005 Nissan Xterra
    By -

The rear bumper started rusting after just 3 years. This is a car that is garage kept. Now the fuel gauge doesnt work because the fuel level sensor is defective. Its a $600 fix that has been a problem with Nissans since 2000. So why do they continue to install defective parts year after year? And there are lots of rattles. No more Nissans for me.

  • What A TRUCK - 2004 Nissan Xterra
    By -

Before I bought my Xterra I read all kinds of reviews on it. And most of the reviews complained about the feel of the ride. Dont listen to all that crap about it being a bad ride. Test drive one for yourself and see. If you want a vehicle that looks like an SUV but acts more like A TRUCK this is the one to own. And lets not forget its A nissan so it built to last.

  • Best Choice for a First, New SUV - 2006 Nissan Xterra
    By -

I previously drove a used 02 Jetta. Likeing the handle of the road I had in mind a small SUV. My brand-new Xterra is everything but small yet not an overkill on sight and cost. Its a great transition to an SUV. Great quality, smooth appearance yet intimidating. Ease of performance and functionality. Best investment Ive ever made. - 22 Tx

  • Ugly car - 2010 Nissan Xterra

My parents just suprised me with this car and I have a couple of complaints. It does not have an outlet where you can plug in your phone to play music. The car just looks really weird. Im a guy and Ive only seen girls drive this car which is kind of annoying. People always tell me that I drive a chick car.

  • Love My New Xterra - 2009 Nissan Xterra
    By -

This my first Xterra but seventh Nissan. Its hard to beat a Nissan vehicle. The Xterra is a great SUV to drive. My wife calls it my "sport truck". Besides a great price my Xterra also came with $1300 of free electronics upgrades. The Rockford Fosgate sound system is great, much better than the Bose I had in my Pathfinder. The Blue Tooth hands free phone is also great as is the XM satellite radio. The Xterra handles extremely well and is a solidly built vehicle. The 261 h.p. engine is typical Nissan quality - great quality and performance. Ive never had a single engine problem with all my previous Nissans. In summary, I am totally satisfied with my new Xterra.

  • After much review... - 2006 Nissan Xterra

... I finally decided on the Xterra after looking at just about everything that had 4 doors and a hatch. I have 2 kids, one in a car seat, but hated the thought of giving up my truck for an SUV. The Xterra has great road presence (sits high, feels strong) and has well thought out interior features. I always choose power over mileage when faced with one or the other, and while the mileage isnt that bad (22 highway according to the sticker), the power is wonderful. I am also very pleased with the ride and the suspension. Its built very, very well (Titans frame, etc.) It also has a youthful appearance, which never hurts a guy my age.
