Pros:

  • Great SUV if gas prices were not so high - 2004 Nissan Xterra

Unfortunately, you must burn super premium grade gas. I regularly spend $35 for a tank of gas that only gets me about 200 miles. The sun roof could have been designed better, because both the wind deflector and the basket really restrict its use. As far as the rest of the SUV goes I could not be more pleased. It has a very sporty look both inside and out. It also is very rugged looking and you can tell this SUV is much closer to being a truck than a car. Stadium style seating in the back is a plus. The Rockford Fosgate premium sound with the in dash CD changer is the best stock stereo system Ive heard.

We are really enjoying our new Xterra. We just took a small overnight trip about 800 miles roundtrip and was very comfortable. We drove a 1998 Chevy Tahoe before, and even my husband lover our Xterra!!! He has been amazed at all of them we pass on the roads, now that we have one. It is a great mid sized SUV.

Great offroad capability. It has handled everything Ive come across offroad with ease. I used to be a die- hard Jeep fan, but this vehicle changed me. Comfortable with multiple passengers and car seat. Plenty of storage in back and roof rack. 14,000 miles without a problem. We have owned other Nissans which have impressed us with their reliability and were betting our Xterra wont disappoint. Terrific SUV for the $

  • aint no mountain high enough........... - 2004 Nissan Xterra

Great looking exterior. Fit and finish are excellent. Rides like a truck, but that is expected. Gas mileage is sub par, but the fun to drive factor outweighs the gas mileage by far. I bought it for my wife for Christmas, and she loves to get up in the mountains and take her new truck off road over pretty substantial terrain (sand, medium boulders, dry river beds) It keeps on going as long as you can keep gas in it.

Bought mine new and have had no problems at all. It has 106,000 miles on it now. Besides regular maintenance no one problem at all! Good truck very reliable.

  • A Sporty Sport Utility - 2004 Nissan Xterra

Perfect if you want a SUV that can go off road without hurting its feelings and you want to feel like you are in something sporty. Drives like compact pickups (well that is what it is built off of). Plenty of places to tie down cargo inside and out. Don’t get it if you plan to stay in the suburbs all your driving time. Perfect if you are into the outdoors like hiking, biking, camping, hunting, fishing, etc.

  • Gas Mileage sucks - 2004 Nissan Xterra
    By -

This car is good for getting from point a to point b but anything else it lacks. You can get a better deal on a nicer suv. The car is actually not bad to drive but severely lacks in power and gas mileage. The most I have gotten in mileage on the road is 18 with cruise control at 65-70. At gas prices today, I would get another suv thats nicer even though they get the same mileage.

One thing I did right away was to adjust the throttle cables under the hood as they come from the factory with alot of play. Once I tightened these up the pedal response was amazing! I also put a K&N air filter in as well as new synthetic redline oil. With these simple changes I am getting 20 miles per gallon and drives great!!!
