This Year's Model Updates:

Nissan's compact pickup rolls into 2003 with many new enhancements. Most interesting is a power-operated retractable top. The "Open Sky" top -- essentially a giant sunroof -- is optional on Crew Cab models. For safety, Nissan has added standard dual-stage front airbags for Crew Cabs, standard LATCH child seat anchors on King Cabs and Crew cabs, an optional stability control system and an optional tire pressure monitoring system. Other changes for 2003 include 10 more horsepower for normally aspirated V6 models, a driver seat-height adjuster and standard Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). King Cabs now have standard ABS, a new storage bin and a new first aid kit (V6 only).

Pros:
  • Wide variety of body configurations and trim levels, many safety and convenience features.
Cons:
  • No third door on King Cabs, cramped rear seats for Crew Cabs.

I bought my truck used with 500 miles with everything but leather. Its my main vehicle and my family car. Ive got 60k miles on it and havent had any problems. Ive taken it off the road a couple times and seems to do a decent job at it for a two wheel drive. Seems to go where you want it to in the slippery stuff. Tires like to spin on wet pavement by the way or maybe Ive just got a heavier foot. Havent spent much time in the back seats myself but had some heavier inlaws back there for a twelve hour trip with out to many complaints. Ive also had it about as full as you can get it cargo wise and dosent seem to effect the ride, acceleration or handling much.Go with the l. bed version.

Much better, and cheaper than the Tacoma.

  • What a TRUCK!! - 2003 Nissan Frontier

This is one truck that you dont want to skip. It has a decent 143 hp 4cyl engine that gets great economy, especially with todays gas prices. Between my first 2 tanks of gas, Ive gotten 25.2 mpg in mixed driving. Thats BETTER than EPA highway, and the engine isnt even totally broken in yet! The seating is really comfortable, and you feel as though youre driving a larger vehicle, only its very easy to park. The HVAC controls are clean and intuitively laid out. In fact, the cleanliness of the whole dashboard is great. If you want a real truck, but dont want to get something unreliable (American made), or expensive, check out the Frontier!

It was between the frontier and the tacoma and when it came down to money, power, and interior room there was no comparison. The extended bed liner and the 4wd drive makes it unstopable. It has gotten me out of many sticky situations. Test drive and you will see too....

This is my third Nissan pickup in the last 18 years. So far it is starting out like the other two, no problems. I still own my 93 and plan to give it to my son when he turns 16. What can I say? I wouldnt have bought three in a row if they werent a great little truck. I have nothing against Toyota, except that they cost about $2k more when compared to Nissan.

My Frontier XE CC LB is 1 year old with 12000 flawless mile. Looked at Toyota Tacomas but the dealers wouldnt deal. Nissan dealer was great, drove in for 1st time look and 1hr.15min. later drove my new truck home. Love the whole truck, looks, power, and handling.

This truck replaced a leased 2001 Frontier CC 4WD 5-speed which was trouble free at 42K miles. Although we havent had this 03 long, I believe that it is quieter and rides smoother than the 01 on the road. The automatic keeps the engine running at lower revs on the interstate, and that helps. I also like the seat fabric better on this 03 XE than the 01. Squeaks and rattles werent a problem with the 01, but this truck feels very solid with virtually no rattles even over bumps and ruts. In summary, it has most everything I liked about our 2001 with some evolutionary improvements.

I LOVE this truck! I have almost 45000 miles on it now and not a single problem. The interior does not have the cheap look and feel that the Toyota has. The interior is also extremely user friendly. Once you get rid of those horrible BFG rugged trail tires for a real All Terrain tire, I suggest the Yokohama Geolander A/T+IIs, the off-road ability is amazing. I had NO wet road traction with the BFGs and the Yokos solved that problem. I ordered mine with the 5spd manual which has a 4LO crawl ratio of nearly 40:1. Gas mielage is good for a 4x4... I average 20mpg on the highway and 15-16 in town, also while towing my 72 240Z on the hwy (3300lbs w/trailer) I averaged 16mpg @ 65-70mph.
