Overview & Reviews
The big news for the 2005 Mini Cooper is the arrival of the convertible in both regular and S flavors. Stylish as ever, the drop-top Mini seats four and still has a trunk big enough for a few bags. Other changes include slightly revised front and rear fascias and some reworked option choices. The vanity mirrors are no longer illuminated, a universal remote transmitter is now available and a leather-wrapped steering wheel is now standard. The S version gains 5 horsepower and 7 pound-feet of torque, as well as an external temperature display. Both the five- and six-speed manual transmissions feature shorter gearing this year to improve acceleration. A six-speed automatic transmission will become available on the S versions later in the model year.
- Not enough horsepower in base model, questionable seat comfort, not much room for passengers and cargo, some low-grade interior materials.

Fun things in small packages. - 2005 Mini Cooper
By Leslie - November 28 - 4:30 amThis car has been great fun and I get plenty of looks! It is easy to drive and easy on the gas. Its relatively quiet, for a convertible, and grips the road when it corners. The ride is a bit rough but its worth it. The electric sun roof/top are fast and easy to operate.

For a better car, avoid high end options - 2005 Mini Cooper
By Don - November 11 - 12:40 pmThe Cooper S convertible really DOES feel like a go-kart, it is a blast to drive, and people all want to make friends with such a cute little car. But the dynamic stability control is wildly overassertive (slammming on the brakes at the slightest chirp of wheelspin), the optional automatic climate control is a disastrous triumph of cutesy (shaped like the Mini crest) over ergonomic, and the optional Harmon-Kardon stereo upgrade is only marginal at best. If you delete these options, youll not only save money, youll have a MUCH better experience of the car...simple, direct, delightful. Mini gets into trouble when they try to get too fancy..but when they just go for fun, they get it right!

Worth it - 2005 Mini Cooper
By Larry - November 7 - 8:23 pmI love to be in it and drive it. I know many people who have very expensive cars that prefer the mini as there regular car. It handles in traffic and can move into parking and tough spot easily...City traffic is a breeze. It hanles great in the Canyons of Los Angeles.......And it is a looker.

Fun Fun Fun - 2005 Mini Cooper
By Sean Maestro - November 7 - 7:20 pmI miss my MINI Cooper. I had a 2005 custom-built to my liking and had it for 2 yrs. I had the opportunity to drive it on English roads and it was perfect for the winding narrow streets and small parking spots. I averaged 29mpg, which I thought was great, giving me about 400 miles per tank. I am 63 and was able to fit perfectly, but no one could sit behind me. I had a baby and got rid of it for an SUV - big mistake.

Its a BLAST! - 2005 Mini Cooper
By Marty J. - November 7 - 11:46 amMy Cooper S is a 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters, new this year. It is an absolute blast to drive! Excellent handling, great brakes and a killer Harman-Kardon sound system! And, its so cool looking. This is my second Mini, my first being a 2002 Cooper with CVT automatic. That one was great, but the S model is definitely "The Bomb"!

I call it Lucille, its a ball to drive - 2005 Mini Cooper
By Joe Obermeier - October 28 - 3:30 amHad an original Mini in 1968. Ordered a new 2002 as soon as deposites were taken. Had the second all yellow one in South Florida. The dealer had the first. Put 23,500 mile on in and traded it in on a 2005 MINI Cooper S convertable. The perfect car for South Florida. Go topless most of the time. Fast enough to avoid most rain drops and getting too wet inside.

2005 BMW MINI Convertible - 2005 Mini Cooper
By Tracey - September 11 - 6:43 amI have had my MINI Cooper Convertible for 3 weeks now and love it! Even though the car looks small on the outside, there is plenty of room inside. The back seat is very deep so your knees dont touch the back of the front seats. The gas mileage is excellent. There could be a few more comfort features in the cockpit, but everything you need to motor is right at your fingers. The convertible is one touch operation, no latches to fool with, and it has a sunroof option that no other cars have.
