Most car for the money - 1998 Mercury Sable
By Beeman - April 21 - 10:00 amI have put 135000 miles on this car and have spent less than $300.00 on repairs. I bought it because you can buy a used Sable for less money than any other car its size. Very good value if you need a roomy family car. The only thing I dont like is the lack of power on the base 3.0 engine. Go for the 24 valve version if you can.

This is my best friend - 1998 Mercury Sable
By Barbara Erives - September 25 - 12:40 pmFor an American made car, this car is great. Reliable, comfortable and for a V6 good on gas. I have never had a car with this much milage that I could say that about. I will be getting another Sable soon, only because of body damage done to this vehicle by an incompetent employee at an auto repair shop, and the companys insurance company decided it was a total loss and I will use the money from that to buy a newer model Sable. I think Mercury was crazy to discontinue this model for 2010 because it is a good solid car. Since Ive had it, nothing has gone on it that wasnt normal wear and tear.

Reliableness - 1998 Mercury Sable
By saget222 - May 10 - 8:13 pmGreat reliable car. When over 115,000 problems may start to occur, in my case anyway. Can really get what you pay for with this car. Bought with 80,000 and didnt have a single problem for over 4 years.

Great family car - exceeds minivans - 1998 Mercury Sable
By bampam33 - December 27 - 8:13 pmPreviously owned by a family member, our large family thoroughly enjoys this car. With the 3rd seat, we get the "feel" of a minivan without the outrageous gas costs. Extremely comfortable and adaptable to drive...kids love it too.

Very good results - 1998 Mercury Sable
By Lew - December 14 - 9:33 pmI have had no bad results and would recommend this car for any family. It has a lot of power and speed. The body has a few chips in the paint but no dents. It is white in color with beige cloth interior. Power driver seat. I just had the speed sensor replaced in the transmission. This is the only problem I have ever had with this car. It has 67000 miles on it.

Ten years and still going - 1998 Mercury Sable
By Chris - December 11 - 5:06 pmI saw this car in 2005 now mind you it is about to reach the ten year mark, and has 93k miles on it, you couldve told me it just left the factory yesterday and I would have believed you. I had it checked out,a nd yes there were some problems, problems all too common with the Sable, but the dealer was happy to fix them and I for $3500 walked away with an above average used car. I am happy to tell you, the car to this day still turns heads, provides a smooth ride and on I-95 can keep up with those around it. After 150k miles my used car shows no signs of stopping and thanks to Ford I will not have to go through the process of buying a car anytime soon, thank you.

It has its ups and downs. - 1998 Mercury Sable
By Arah - June 8 - 10:00 amAt first it was a great car. Then after a year little bad things kept happening. Window frames keep breaking, paint job flecking, windshield wipers goofy, parking brake light misbehaves, door sensors often wrong (had to remove interior light bulbs to save battery), hinge on front storage compartment broke, springs in change storages broke. Etc. On the plus side though nothing serious has ever broken. The only major failure after 160,000 miles was the bearing in the alternator went bad.

Great Car - 1998 Mercury Sable
By sandy - March 21 - 11:56 pmBought the car used, 10+ years ago, with 25000 mls on it. Car now has over 276,000+ miles. It consistently gets 21 mpg. We recently took a 1000 mile trip and got 29 mpg. Getting old and having some problems but has been a GREAT car!!! Will probably replace with a used, NOT new style, model.

Sable Is Great - 1998 Mercury Sable
By Starjet - August 5 - 10:00 amIve owned this Sable since 98 and have had little problem with it. Its a nice looking car with a great amount of leg room in the front and rear. Quite ride, however, some wind noise.

Watch out for the transmission! - 1998 Mercury Sable
By Arabella - June 19 - 10:00 amI bought this car new and its been great till the transmission went at 81K and almost 6 years of age. Its costing me a small fortune to get it back on the road. After reading about Fords transmission problems, this is the last Ford for me.
