Dashboard unglues Mercury does NOTHING! - 2000 Mercury Mystique
By Laura Belfiore - November 5 - 10:00 amI am happy with the performance of the vehicle, but am very distressed over the fact that a four year old cars dashboard has become unglued, unsitely and unsafe! I went to Lincoln Mercury and they also told me there was nothing they could do and it would cost me 1350.00 to replace and there were no guarantees. I feel that there should be a recall on this because the guy Linc/Merc told me he has seen a alot of this and that there should eba recall. Anyone that is interested in getting together to write to Ford/Lincoln Mercury about this particular problem, please email me at Awaken59@aol.com

mystique, or trique - 1998 Mercury Mystique
By masss29 - July 12 - 10:00 amMan i thought this car was gonna be the bomb when i bought it, but it turned up to be a disaster. I paid 4000 dlls for it and i had to waste about 2200 more in the a.c., transmission, and several electric shorts that happened in the first 3 months that i had it. I gotta give it to the car that it was pretty fun to drive, because you could go about 100 and it wouldnt even tremble. But after about 3 months of 100 mph drives, the poor car ended up in the shop with damage of about 1500 dlls. if you want good advice, take it from me: never, if you can help it, buy a Mercury Mistique. it will cost you!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldnt buy another - 1998 Mercury Mystique
By beg23 - July 5 - 1:16 pmI bought this car in 2006 with 30,000 miles on it for about $4000. It is a nice looking car and it drives nice, but i have had problems with it. Although it drives well, it likes to lock up and cut off on me; this is due to the full pump problems (just like the ones in its sister car the ford contour) that cant be pin-pointed. I have also had to replace the brakes shortly after purchasing it. Recently, it has been eating gas, ive put about 1000 in repairs in it in the last year, and my transmission just died on me a few days ago! Im not happy with this car and i have only had it 2 years. I wouldnt reccommend it useless you know how to fix cars.

My first car - 1998 Mercury Mystique
By nell523 - June 16 - 1:36 amWhen I first bought the car it only had about 80000 miles on it and I was only using it to commute to work and school. Within the first week of owning the car I had to buy a new battery because I was driving and the car shut off on me. In the end I think it was the alternator because this past summer I had to replace that when the car shut down on me at an intersection (btw I was 9 months pregnant with a small child in the back not the best experience.) Throughout my ownership I have had the routers done, the flywheel and starter replaced and the last thing was the alternator. In the end I donated the car I just didnt feel right selling it to someone with so many problems.

Nothing to get excited about - 1998 Mercury Mystique
By ryanf02 - March 8 - 8:03 amI bought my mystique sport when I got my licence 5 years ago. I bought it around 70k miles and now it has just over 100k. All I can really say is you get what you pay for. Its spent its fair share of time in the shop and I wouldnt really rely on it more than I have to to take an extended trip over a couple hours. That being said it was in an accident that Im sure rattled some parts, causing some of the problems Ive had. It can be somewhat fun to drive, although its by no means a particuarly fast car. The sunroof leaks (directly on my crotch) and Ive had the overhead cabin lights just completely fall out. Not the worst 1st car, but Im looking to trade up asap

Mistake - 1998 Mercury Mystique
By Christy08 - February 8 - 10:00 amPurchased car from dealer used as a fleet vehicle with 24K miles. Car ran great up until 03 with barely 90K miles transmission completely failed! Tranny man tells me "I see alot of these things with exactly same milage... transmission is full of weak parts" Had him put in used mystique tranny with 60K on it. Only got 12K more miles off it. Ford has lost me for good. I will stick to Honda/Toyota from now on.

jury still out... - 1998 Mercury Mystique
By Anne1062 - October 30 - 2:00 amI purchased my Mystique new. Since 98 I have had several recalls, problems with the AC leaking on the floor board runing the carpet beneath. Sensors, check engine lights etc.The plastic headlight covers fog over, a local company repaired them for 150. Something like that should be covered by mercury, for safty if nothing else. It soes effect your night vision. The grill had to be replaced due to pitting, they were suppose to put a silver one on and put a smoke color instead, said they no longer carried the silver!! Go figure!! HOWEVER, my favorite is the Transmission falling apart with only 60,000.!! Im sure I am missing something.....

Not Bad - 1998 Mercury Mystique
By spudman - January 13 - 10:00 amThe car has nice amenities, but has been troublesome. Its been in the shop more times than most other cars Ive owned. Though not a big car, its not easy to park especially in reverse.

RIP MysTAKE - 1998 Mercury Mystique
By kij1989 - February 21 - 11:36 amPurchased my 98 Mystique GS two years ago for 1,800, with 86K on it. Since then, must have put 3K worth of repairs into it. The interior lights would fall down when driving. Headlights were awfully dim, replaced them and made a slight difference, but with the fogginess of the plastic what do you expect? Brakes were replaced and still were .. clunky when stopping. Next was the transmission! Oh boy, that went at 100K, got it replaced for the amount I paid for the car. About 2 months ago, it started an awful rattling noise when starting up the car, and when the A/C was on. Took it to my mechanic thinking it was the compressor, turns out it was the engine. Im sure theres more, but never AGAIN!

Please Dont Buy - 1998 Mercury Mystique
By kdub198 - July 24 - 2:00 amI bought this car new not knowing that Ford likes to make inferior brake rotors that tend to warp quickly. I had many problems with the car as soon as the warranty ran out. How convenient. I had to replace the break twice in 65K miles due to warped rotors (which cant be turned). The wheel cylinder sprung a leak the power steering pump leaked dry, plus all the recalls. Amazingly, I always had great service from all of the dealerships that I had to visit. The V6 is a must, but nowadays smaller engines do just as well and dont suck down the gas. Leather is nice if you dont live in Vegas. Its probably a good thing that ford discontinued the mystique.
