I wouldnt buy another - 1998 Mercury Mystique
By beg23 - July 5 - 1:16 pmI bought this car in 2006 with 30,000 miles on it for about $4000. It is a nice looking car and it drives nice, but i have had problems with it. Although it drives well, it likes to lock up and cut off on me; this is due to the full pump problems (just like the ones in its sister car the ford contour) that cant be pin-pointed. I have also had to replace the brakes shortly after purchasing it. Recently, it has been eating gas, ive put about 1000 in repairs in it in the last year, and my transmission just died on me a few days ago! Im not happy with this car and i have only had it 2 years. I wouldnt reccommend it useless you know how to fix cars.

great and reliable car - 1998 Mercury Mystique
By me - April 26 - 1:33 amWhen I bought this car it was 1 year old and had 30,000 miles on it. It is running as good as it did 10 years ago. I have had a few repairs on it - like the alternator and transmission. It has been very reliable for me, and I would buy one again if they were still made!

Hate it - 1998 Mercury Mystique
By Aramil - April 23 - 10:00 amWhen I bought this car on auction with hi mileage 120K and for only $1500 I expected problems. But so far it seems that everytime I turn the key something else goes wrong. Right now I Have already doubled the ammount I payed for it in repairs and still have a transmission problem and oil leak I have to force my shifter to get it in gear and i have a short in the in the line for my turn signals and my AC has gone out.

1998 Mercury Mystique LS - 1998 Mercury Mystique
By Ridgerunr - December 25 - 2:00 amThe 1998 Mercury Mystique LS has been a joy to drive. It has good power from the 2.5L 24 valve V6 Duratec engine. Handling is nimble & agile, cornering very well. The interior design is pleasant in appearance. The front seats are comfortable, well proportioned & provide good support. The major drawback is the lack of room in the rear seating area. While the Mystique has room for four adults, the fit is tight. This car is best suited for the individual, couple, or small family with young children. P.S. An interesting fact: While the Mystique is no longer available as a Mercury, it is still available. It is the basis for the new (2000+) Jaguar S-Type compact sedan.

Happy 3 year Owner - 2000 Mercury Mystique
By Jim53 - July 27 - 2:00 amI bought my V6 5-speed Mystique LS in Dec 99 after ordering it to my specs. The dealer thought I should get an automatic trans for resale purposes. I bought it for me as a keeper, not to sell. I really like this car and totally agree with the reviewers comments of July 02. Great Handling, strong engine. Very smooth and powerful 4-disc brakes. This is a great used car deal - if you can find a 5 speed. Ive owned Honda Accords - great cars, but cannot touch this for handling. I did not rate the car a 10 because of a clutch leak (left me stranded) and rear styling is so so.

1998 Mercury Mystique - A GREAT car!!! - 1998 Mercury Mystique
By Wonderwall99 - April 7 - 10:00 amI am a new owner of a (used, obviously) 1998 Mercury Mystique LS... and though Ive only had it for a short time I have fallen madly in love with it. Its sporty enough for my friends to envy and sensible and luxurious enough for my grandparents to want to purchase one of their own. I love the fact that it has a V6 engine in it, and it is one of the most comfortable cars Ive ever driven in. I would definitely recommmend it to anyone looking to buy a used car.

1998 Mystique LS - 1998 Mercury Mystique
By mikef - January 12 - 10:00 amBought this Mystique LS used. At that time it only had 17K miles, was still under warranty, and was loaded with every option except the moonroof. I now have 40K miles on the car and I am very pleased. The purchase price was $10,300 and I really doubt I could of found much more car for the money.

Second time around - 1998 Mercury Mystique
By Ronnyboy - August 9 - 9:46 pmThis is my second MIGHTY MERCURY!!!!! I love these cars. Perfect size for everyday use. Great ride, handling, and power. First one was a 4- banger, this one is a 6, much better engine. Unfortunately, there is a SEVERE transmission problem with these things. Mine and a relative AND a friends all went around the same mileage. Still worth the $1000 to fix it tho:)

My first car - 1998 Mercury Mystique
By nell523 - June 16 - 1:36 amWhen I first bought the car it only had about 80000 miles on it and I was only using it to commute to work and school. Within the first week of owning the car I had to buy a new battery because I was driving and the car shut off on me. In the end I think it was the alternator because this past summer I had to replace that when the car shut down on me at an intersection (btw I was 9 months pregnant with a small child in the back not the best experience.) Throughout my ownership I have had the routers done, the flywheel and starter replaced and the last thing was the alternator. In the end I donated the car I just didnt feel right selling it to someone with so many problems.

Never Again - 1998 Mercury Mystique
By shortntall - May 9 - 10:00 amI fell in love with the looks of the sporty LS with the alloy wheels and spolier. The V-6 was very peppy and it handled suprisingly well. But my pleasure has not lasted long. My disappointment started off with samll things. First my head lamp brackets cracked. Light in my dash burnt out. My dome light fell out. os2 censor went out. Water pump went out. Cellunoid on the transmission went out. Then the whole transmission went out. The only thing that hasnt went wrong is the muffler bearings and blinker fluid. All this before I reached 100,000 miles. I still love the looks of the car and the performance. But it has cost me a bundle to keep up.
