Overview & Reviews
This year the CLK's standard eight-speaker Bose audio system is scrapped in favor of a 10-speaker Harman Kardon unit, while the navigation system is now DVD-based. The 320 model gets upgraded standard wheels, and offers a lighting package with foglights that illuminate with the turn signals, or when the steering wheel is turned. The 500's five-speed automatic is replaced with a new seven-speed unit with steering wheel shift controls. Also, ventilated front seats are now optional. The complimentary scheduled maintenance program has been dropped for 2005.
- Solid chassis, composed ride, comfortable front seats, fast power top operation in Cabriolet.
- High price, some subpar plastic trim, a few hard-to-use controls.

Almost Perfect - 2005 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class
By Carolyn Volatile - February 16 - 6:33 amThe cup holder still a joke and it could use more power, but other than that, a thrill to drive. Great handling, styling and reliability

A little disappointed - 2005 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class
By Nathan B. - September 2 - 12:03 amWe searched forever for the perfect family convertible and wanted the class that Mercedes could offer. This was my first Mercedes purchase. This car is only driven on the weekends and only has about 1500 miles since purchase four months ago. Within 500 miles we developed a huge rattle under the car. Took it in and it was fixed right away. A bolt was missing from the exhaust system (never installed according to the dealer). Now at 1500 miles we have to have something in the front steering replaced because it has a leak. The part is 4-5 weeks out and we have to bring the car back in again. As far as driving it; I love it. It is a beautiful car and drives nice (when its not in the shop).

Love, Love, Love!! - 2005 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class
By LM Sophie - September 18 - 11:03 amThe car is smooth, elegant, and sexy. Absolutely love driving it - the 6 cylinder is definitely powerful enough. Get great looks on the highway and feel special driving it. Great options that make it truly special: navigation system and voice-controlled phone. Not great in the snow, but has a "winter- mode" button that helps you get through better. Mercedes service is impeccable - courteous and complete.

Sobering Realization - 2005 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class
By bizzybee81 - April 15 - 2:52 pmAfter 5 years of ownership, having purchased new, once my extended warranty (5 yr, 100k miles) ended, the sobering realization that major repairs costing more than the car is worth was a wake-up call. Im being told by the dealer and MBUSA that the 7-speed transmission and torque convertor has to be replaced at a cost of $7k. With just barely over 130k miles, this first generation tranny is now defunct. It turns out it was a sealed transmission with no prescribed maintenance schedule to prevent problems. Im told metal seems to be floating around and it has to be replaced -- at full cost to me! What OEM does that?? Add to that another $8k in other repairs, and $15k!! Last MB Ill ever buy.

Trouble in Paradise - 2005 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class
By MsTC - April 1 - 10:30 amThis car is beautiful and a pleasure to drive. It is nimble and responsive. Unfortunately, little and big problems have occured. The battery died when the car wasnt driven for ten days. The transmission failed without warning on the highway 100 miles from home. The Teleaid system couldnt pinpont our location. The car took a week to repair and I wasnt given a loaner. Later, the trunk wouldnt open without use of the valet key. The computer keeps losing the seat memory.
