Overview & Reviews
DX, LX and ES trims carryover, but the V6 is newly limited to LX and ES. If you want to see what's new on the 2003 Tribute, you'll need to look inside. This year, the dashboard is two-tone, and the insert trim is either brushed aluminum (DX and LX) or fake black wood (ES). ES models are equipped with upgraded leather and a cold package that includes heated seats and exterior mirrors. New options include an auto-dimming rearview mirror with compass and a DVD entertainment system. Four new colors round out the changes.
- Roomy and comfortable, peppy V6 engine, great value for the money, drives more like a car than a truck.
- Loud engines, poor fuel economy and range with V6.

Very nice Compact SUV - 2003 Mazda Tribute
By Felipe - November 19 - 10:00 amI am surprised with the previous review of 2.8. The transmision problem you had does not reflect that all the Mazda tributes are bad. All cars have issues and you were just an unlucky guy. You do have the right to be upset at the fact that the dealer is not being helpful. I like my car very much and do suggest it to other potential buyers in that price range.. I compared to the Escape, Liberty and the Mazda was a much better car for the money. I encorage other people who own tributes to also write and share their experience.

Mazda love!! - 2003 Mazda Tribute
By Kathy Austin - August 3 - 10:00 amI first saw the Tribute on the road. Had to check one out. I am in love with mine. Fell asleep at wheel one day and went into gravel. I feel like I should have flipped, but my Tribute kept me upright after a slight struggle. That is when I knew this was the SUV for me. Hope to enjoy it for many years to come. Riding in style!!

2003 Tribute - 2003 Mazda Tribute
By Loriann23 - August 3 - 10:00 amMy experience has so far been excellent. The tribute is fun to drive, and handled well in the Winter on slick roads even with only front wheel drive.

Mazdafied - 2003 Mazda Tribute
By jack leni - August 3 - 10:00 amHaving driven this Tribute since 9/01, I can honestly say I have enjoyed every minute. The vehicle handles well and response is quick and trustworthy. At higher speeds(70 mph) the car is noisey from the wind factor. Fuel mileage is great, 19mpg city and 22mpg highway. I would like to see a more dressy interior to complement the over all vehicle. I definitely would purchase another Mazda again.

Sports Car SUV - 2003 Mazda Tribute
By Jimmy - August 1 - 4:23 pmWell, this 2003 Mazda Tribute ES-V6 was probably the nicest compact SUV I have ever driven. Performance ... Pros: Dont let a 3.0L 201-HP V6 fool you. This car is explosively fast. Burning rubber and spinning tires from a stop. Cons: Loud exhilaration noise. Comfort ... Pros: Leather interior with heated seats are moderately comfy. Cons: Driving in the car for 2+ hours may make you feel stiff. Fuel Economy ... Pros: Regular fuel. Cons: 15 MPG in a suburban area. Fun to drive: Pros: A Ford Mustang in SUV form. Cons: None! Design: Pros: Sporty inside and out. Cons: Bland back seats. Build Quality/Reliability: Pros: 36 month lease reported only 1 problem-brakes. Cons: Still an American Ford vehicle.

Transmission problem - 2003 Mazda Tribute
By john - July 12 - 1:10 amGreat driving car and reasonable gas mileage. All was fine until 68,000 miles when the auto trans started slipping when shifting into 3d. Upon disassembly the hub assembly P/N 7G120/a was found to have a cracked weld, unfortunately two new replacement hubs were also bad, took a third one and two weeks to be fixed. Other than this $2200 bump in the road its been a great ride.

Great SUV Purchase for the Money - 2003 Mazda Tribute

I love it - 2003 Mazda Tribute
By judyrom1 - June 15 - 10:00 amThis is my first SUV, so Im not used to the gas mileage, though im not as surprised as everyone seems to be at the lack of it. I have the fully loaded dark titanium 4wd. I absolutely love this thing! I have over 5,000 miles and havent had a problem yet. Its better looking than any of the others in its class and drives fantastic. If I had the money id buy another for my 17 year old daughter. No complaints.
