Overview & Reviews
Now that the brilliant 6 sport sedan has been approved for production, the Millenia's days are numbered. Understandably, changes for 2002 barely register on the Richter scale. Are you ready for this? An auto-dimming mirror with compass is standard, and Snow White Pearl paint is changed to Snow Flake White Pearl paint. You can also get a Special Edition with a chrome-finished front grille, a black exterior and a black-and-ivory interior with titanium trim.
- Attractive exterior styling and interior design, supercharged Millenia S engine, competitive price.
- Cramped interior, weak base engine, lack of brand cache, floaty highway ride, aging platform.

mixed bag - 2002 Mazda Millenia
By NN - September 3 - 3:36 pmCan be a great value as a used car, so definitely worth a look for the nice interior design & materials, smooth ride, and upscale, if somewhat generic, Japanese sedan look. However, poor interior packaging makes this somewhat large sedan small on the inside (uncomfortable to drive w/knees splayed out--Im 63"). Also, they have harsh shifting auto trannies with poor reliability, and other reliability issues as well. 170hp base engine is pretty weak. Fuel economy for a sedan is only 23mpg mixed city/hwy, and worst of all, requires premium fuel! If the tranny was smooth, there was another few inches of driver legroom, and my check engine light would turn off...then Id probably love it!

My Second Millenia - 2002 Mazda Millenia
By MAB - July 9 - 10:00 amBought a second Millenia for myself and a first for my wife. Great car for the price point. Was disappointed to learn that the Bose system wasnt standard in the P models as it was in the past. Cost me $500.00 to upgrade the sound system after market. Great Ride and handling. Better ride than the Infiniti I30t. Tighter car than most of its competitors.

Great car - if you keep it - 2002 Mazda Millenia
By sofsoldier - July 9 - 10:00 amThis car does compete very condidently with cars in the same price range from BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Infinity, Acura. Has plenty of power (with the supercharger), gets fair to good gas milage, very comfortable on long road trips, and intuitive driver comforts.

A decent car.... - 2002 Mazda Millenia
By Mudbone - March 11 - 11:00 pmGot a good end of production deal on the Millenia - 5k rebate w/the dealer taking another 3k off sticker. Great looking car with lots of room. The ride is stiff with the performance tires. Very wide turning radius. The vehicle sits low so its not e-z to get out of.

So Far So Good - 2002 Mazda Millenia
By salukiman - December 27 - 2:00 amGreat deal on price. Went to buy a 626, came home with a Millenia. One of the most visually appealing sedans on the road. Well proportioned look. Am told reliability will be good. Would be concerned about depreciation, but expect to keep it several years. My prior Mazda was a very good vehicle. I am generally satisfied. Too bad it is discontinued.

Excellent car for the $$$ - 2002 Mazda Millenia
By j t - November 20 - 2:00 amVehicle is a great vehicle for the money. One feels good when driving it. Creature comforts make this vehicle stand out. We bought it for 19.9 and is still currently advertised that way in local papers brand spanking new.

Great Value - 2002 Mazda Millenia
By Victoria - October 24 - 12:56 pmI am just about to finalize the purchase my second Millenia today. My first was a 1999 (2.5 L, not the S) which had 30k miles when purchased, used as a daily driver and sold with approx 130k miles, still strong expect for bad rear mail seal. Wonderful car aside from eventually developing the leaking rear main seal which these cars are notorious for. Luxury at a fraction of the cost and very dependable for the most part. If you can find one with low miles that hasnt been abused BUY IT.

Smooth Ride - 2002 Mazda Millenia
By pimpd79 - August 27 - 2:00 amThis car turns heads everywhere I go. People are shocked to see the driver especially me being a single young adult who should be driving something like a tricked out Honda civic or some under 18k four banger.

Good used value, but no Toyonda - 2002 Mazda Millenia
By Nick Naylor - June 29 - 6:33 amGood value used...bought the car real cheap, and since it looks like a Lexus and has similar interior craftsmanship it is a great value. Very comfortable seats. Nicely equipped. Good brakes and nice handling. A joy to drive on windy roads. However, not all is well. Transmission needed replacement at 65k miles. Even after replacement, 1-2 shift is somewhat harsh, a seemingly common issue with this car (does not lead to long term confidence). Check Engine light is perennially on (EGR Valve). slight oil and coolant leaks. Previous owner or subpar reliability in general? In general, a comfortable nice car that is not a paragon of Japanese quality.

Expensive to fix and maintain - 2002 Mazda Millenia
By carena - February 2 - 6:44 pmJust purchased this car for college aged daughter. Purchased from a private party in a state that does not require emission inspections (Ohio). Car drove like a dream; ext. and int. were in great shape for a 10 yr. old car. It had a reasonable amount of mileage (121,000). The owner mentioned the check engine light was on but their mechanic couldnt diagnose the problem. Needless to say, after purchasing the car, taking it to Pa for inspection...it failed miserably! $2300.00 later! change the catalytic converters; fix broken seal on transmission; change a light bulb (requires front bumper to be removed!). Pretty car....but way too expensive to maintain! Buy only if you have $$$ to fix.
