  • Best assembled auto I have ever owned! - 2000 Mazda Millenia

I bougtht my mazda for my wife because she loved its looks. Deeply discounted price for entry level luxury car also a factor. Was always a GM man (10 GMs 8 new from chevy to caddy)Since have purchased 4 new Toyotas big improvement in quality and reliability from GM. Also owned 1 Ford and 2 chrysler products (used). Although the Toyotas assembly were excellent, this car is perfect, nothing out of alingment or loose. The engine is not a great performer by any means. But is adequate for most. Comfortable car for 4 people. Cruises effortlessly at 80 mph. Only problem after 37,000 miles just happened this week, trunk release button will not open trunk.

  • Check Engine Problems - 2000 Mazda Millenia

Car over all is a descent car for the money probably the nicest car I have had in a while, but the check engine light has stayed on since I have had the car... First the O2 sensors were bad and the Map sensor and quite a few things inside the computer has gone wrong and the person working on the car said it is # 3 within 2 months that he has TRIED to fix.. I was asked today to go pick it up and take it somewhere else. Very frustrating to me, the dealer where I bought is seems not to care, and I have talked to several people that have bought cars and the same check engine problem with 5 that I know of.

I like it! Powerful and sporty and looks better than the competitors and is surely more affordable.

  • Luxury for less, but watch out. - 2000 Mazda Millenia

I bought my Millenia very cheap from a bank at loan value. The car was in good condition with 69K miles. After purchasing I found out the 60K mile tuneup was never performed. I went to the dealer and they wanted $1500 for the tuneup. You can get them dirt cheap, but your paying to maintain a $30K car. Ive had some other small issues with the car like the serpentine belt tensioner coming loose. It sounded like a blown engine, but it was just the tensioner bouncing against the block. The transmission is terrible. Its very indecisive. Also, resale is terrible since the car is no longer made.

The Mazda Millenia gets no respect, at least if you read the automotive press. I bought this car with 55,000 miles on it in October 2002 for US$14,700 and I have not seen anything to match its value-for-money. Powerful, quiet and comfortable, it is an excellent highway cruiser, but nimble enough in city traffic. Gas mileage is acceptable for a 210 hp car. Everyone I have spoken to who owns the Millenia is very positive about it.

There are only two deficiencies in this car: A luxuray car should have more power, although the Millenia has plenty for normal driving; and the cup holders are too small in diameter to hold almost anything other than a can. The car has been extremely reliable, with no repairs in 52,000 miles. Build quality is excellent, except for the cup holder issue. No squeeks or rattles. The ride is very comfortable. I get many comments about how pretty the car is. Its a shame this car is going away in 2003. It just needs a more powerful V-6.
