This Year's Model Updates:

New hatchback and wagon body styles were added to the lineup at the end of 2004 and carry over unchanged for 2005. The optional automatic transmission on all V6 models has been upgraded from a five-speed to a six-speed unit.

Pros:
  • More fun to drive than most family cars, slick-shifting manual transmission, smooth power delivery, nicely appointed interior, multiple body styles.

I traded a Hyundai Elantra for the i6 4 cylinder and have been pleasantly surprised. It is fun to drive, has peppy acceleration, gets good mileage (28 mpg on a recent trip with three adults and luggage at 70-80 mph) and sticks to the road. My wife says it is nicest driving car she has ever driven. It is very quiet with a great stereo. Lots of room in the trunk. Back seat leg room is a little tight, and the interior fabrics are not the best. The A/C in extreme heat is marginal, with tinting of the windows works great. Added a satellite radio in the upper glove box and it is now a fabulous long distance road car. I would buy again.

Great car to drive. Handles with best of them. At highway speeds it is quiet and makes lighting quick lane changes. I have the sport transmission (Triptronic) and it is smooth and sporty fun to drive. Great stereo, steering wheel controls are extremely helpful. Interior has great style and quality workmanship. Car was priced right and dealer gave me a great deal.

Quick for an automatic, but the automatic makes the car a lot less fun. Beware of the bumpy and harsh ride, probably due to low profile tires. If you are 22, maybe it wont matter to you, but Im 42 and find it annoyingly harsh. I bought the 5 door S model with 6 speed auto stick. Its my first automatic in 20 years, so maybe thats why I find it lacking. The car seems solid, and handles great. I wish that I could have gotten the 5 door without the sport package. I also hate the orange gauges (maybe the age thing again). Even with Bose package, the stereo sounds tinny at lower volume even compared to my 98 Maxima SE. Heater never seems to blow hot air even when set at 75.

Only had this car for 1200 miles ... so far I love it! It could use another 50 HP ... but it moves fast enough to get me tickets. Plenty of leg room for me (60") ... comfortable seats. Overall, just a great car IMO.

  • I Liked it at first.... - 2005 Mazda Mazda6

Ive owned this car for quite a while now, and I have 32,000 miles on it. Its been in the service shop 8 times over the past year. Twice to re-machine the brake rotors, twice for a fan control module, and the rest of the times for interior squeaks and rattles. I am not impressed with the quality of the car, or the service at the dealership. I liked the car at first, the styling, power, and stereo made me a happy consumer. My experience has left me cold, though.

I love this car. It handles just as well as my older BMW 3 series sedan, and is much much better in the snow. So far, I have taken it through 2 snow days, and it handles great. I feel very safe in the car. I also am pleased with the way it handles in the rain. The extra features like the stereo (Bose) and the interior air bags were reasonably priced compared to other vehicles in its class. The styling is also great, its very unique looking and I get compliments all the time. I have the spoiler and side moldings that I think make the car. If you are looking for one, I feel they look much better with the spoiler.I would definitely buy another Mazda6, from a different dealership though

After looking at a G6 and a Passat, the Mazda6 was the way to go. Sporty looks and handling, this car just wants to go zoom-zoom. This is a great value; side airbags, traction, ABS, all for around 22K. Plenty of room for the family. The hatchback opens up for more than enough room (only 10 cubic feet less than my Sorento). Solid feel, sticks to the road. Great profile. The Blazing Copper is hot, many compliments and catching people looking in and around the car. We are very pleased with this purchase. Keeps us 30 somethings feeling youthful, especially with kids. Great all around car; you must consider this highly when shopping for a mid-size sedan.

  • Mazda 6 ROCKS! - 2005 Mazda Mazda6

This was the first brand new car I or anyone in my family has ever owned and overall I have been extremely pleased with it. Good gas mileage, stunning looks, great safety features, and something a little different than what all the Toyota and Honda owners are driving that just blend in with the crowd, what more could you ask for.

  • Finally a GOOD car - 2005 Mazda Mazda6

The car is excellent. The only complaint would be the low end acceleration with the 5 speed transmission. The top end is best. MPG is better than expected; highway/city combined driving averages 22-26. Now if Ford would follow its sister car maker! Or take notes.

  • Old mans last fling??? - 2005 Mazda Mazda6

Pure sports car in a compact(?)model. Corners on a dime and leaves change. Only problem Ive had is a non-working trunk light. Good size fuel tank but the mileage could be better. Brakes are impressive with little nose dive. Only slight torque steer on heavy throttle. Reminds me of the old muscle cars but with the handling of a sports model.
