This Year's Model Updates:

The Mazda 5 is a new, affordably priced compact minivan that seats six.

Pros:
  • Low price, generous features list, precise steering, stellar fuel economy for a minivan.
Cons:
  • Can seem underpowered when fully loaded with people and gear, extremely cramped third row.

I would never buy this car again. I had to replace the tires, the traction was poor and they leaked after the first year. The third row is to small, no passenger arm rest. The interior cant handle every day use. The dash looks worn after barely two years and the one and only arm rest is totally worn out. Power locks dont work right. The only thing I do like is the sporty feel and look.

  • A Family Car a Man Doesnt Mind Driving - 2006 Mazda Mazda5

At first I told my wife there was no way I was getting a Mazda 5. It looked like a cross between a minivan and a station wagon. How would I ever show my face on the military installation driving what looks like a minivan. I decided to test drive it though figuring it would drive like a minivan and we could finally stop talking about the Mazda 5. Wow, was I wrong! It drives like a Mazda RX8. I got on the highway to see what it could do, popped it over to manual and off we went able to pass anything that stood in my way. Even did a little stop sign challenge with a Mustang who never knew what hit him. This definitely isnt your typical family car!

Its been two years, 32000 miles and Im just, as happy with my car as the day I bought it. I like the improvements on the, all new, 2008 but there are two improvements I would, still, like to see. All wheel drive shouldve been offered on automatics and five speed manuals, especially the manuals with insufficent weight on the front wheels and quieter tires, such as, Bridgestone Serenity. The original Toyos are noisy and dont grip the wet. I especially like it being one of a kind, a non van with sliding doors, like Mitsubishi and Nissan had 20 years ago, but much better. Some features standard, not offered on the others, also, the stick shift.

My wife and I are sport car fans. Since we are due a baby girl this week we opted to trade in our 05 Scion TC for a car that is more family oriented. We tried several SUVs and a couple of sedans. What made us buy the Mazda 5 was the price, features and handling. It doesnt feel like a family car - it feels like a sports car. I foresee no issues with room, power or handling. Of course, well have to slow things down a bit, but, again, this car handles and drives with a very sporty and peppy feel.

The Mazda5 is great and fun to drive. Im a mom,and i love that it feels like Im driving a sports car rather than a minivan. I dont feel like a soccer mom anymore. Gas mileage is great; I drive a lot, so that is very important. The interior is sleek, or as my neighbor called it, "spacey". Mazda5 rocks!

We were looking at small SUVs and within a day or so of buying a Honda CR-V when we just happened to go another car dealership late at night (hopefully missing the salesmen), when we happened on the Mazda5. It was exactly what we had in mind but didnt exist. We drove it once and within an hour owned it. Good gas mileage ($3.00 a gallon on Maui), super fun to drive although a little sluggish. Smooth for a 4 cylinder. Very comfortable seating with great seating visibility. Looks very cool and often find people walking around it in the parking lot. My wife loves the multiple airbags and ability to carry extra kids. Surfboard etc. will fit in the back if wife takes my truck. Ive seen better A/C.

This high wagon is outstanding. Slick exterior design and the interior is great. I enjoy the way it drives and its fun to switch gears on the auto/manual stick shift.

Finally, a family friendly, smaller than a tugboat, affordable vehicle. The Mazda-5 will seat up to six (although rear seats for smaller folks), peppy enough to scoot through the hilly roads of W. Va. and Kentucky (recent road trip), yet still get better mileage than the EPA estimate. When rear seats are down, you have as much cargo room as some so called station wagons, plus more available height for larger items. All in all, a super value for less than $21000 ( including moonroof, fog lights, 6 disc CD, automatic climate control, projection headlamps, etc. - all standard on the touring package).

  • Just ... amazing! - 2006 Mazda Mazda5

Its as if Mazda looked into the future, saw my family, its needs, and wants, and built a car around them. Seating room, extreme comfort, sporty performance, incredible handling, good gas mileage, good looks, great features and safety, and a ride that makes you feel like you are gliding over the road, with a low price tag. Its not only a sensible, but fun alternative to a soccer mom minivan. Mazda ... I love you!

Had a 1994 Grand Voyager, and wanted something smaller and sportier. I always liked the 1st generation Odyssey--big on the inside, small on the outside. The Mazdas dimensions are almost identical. I especially like the manual transmission. Others have complained its underpowered. I disagree--I think that we in the US are on a car "power-trip"--theres plenty of power here, esp. with the manual. Handling is surprisingly quite good--you only notice the weight and high center of gravity on high-speed curves. Ive consistently gotten 25 + mpg every tankful, with a combo city/highway driving (6085 miles), and the last several tanks have been 29-32 mpg. Love the car.
