This Year's Model Updates:

The Mazda 5 is a new, affordably priced compact minivan that seats six.

Pros:
  • Low price, generous features list, precise steering, stellar fuel economy for a minivan.
Cons:
  • Can seem underpowered when fully loaded with people and gear, extremely cramped third row.

  • Love my Mazda5! - 2006 Mazda Mazda5

The Mazda5 drives like a car, has the storage capacity of our old gas guzzling Explorer when you fold all the seats flat in the 2nd & 3rd rows, and has the convenience of an ugly minivan with the sliding doors and 3rd row seats. Its larger than the Toyota Matrix but smaller and infinitely more attractive than the typical minivan. Its a great little car!

I traded in a 2002 Mercedes 4 cylinder with turbocharger for my Mazda5 and am really happy with my choice. It is more responsive, lighter in its reflexes, more fun to drive and much more comfortable. Very peppy acceleration from standstill. I wanted to sit higher since I am 62" tall and this car is very comfortable for my tall frame. Second row passengers also find the space is excellent. I dont use the third row. Yes, at 70 miles per hour the motor is revving fast but it never feels pushed. In fact, I always felt I had to push the Mercedes but I coast along happily in the Mazda. Sound system in touring version is excellent. Perfect car for a trip to the supermarket or long road trip

Just purchased a new Mazda5. So far we are very pleased with it. It certainly is a lot nicer than the Volvo turbo we traded in.

Its been a little over two years and 32000 miles. My biggest downsides have been the factory Toyo A18 tires, which are noisy and, allow too much wheelspin when wet. Also, it requires a "running start" up steep unpaved hills in North Carolina but its OK on the flat grounds of Florida, although wheelspin, when wet, is easy with stick shift models. The weight distribution is 56/44 with auto and 55/45 with manual. You wouldnt want a trailer with this little front bias.

  • Goes great with our RX-8! - 2006 Mazda Mazda5

Replaced our Protege5 with this, it is awesome and much better than any of the minivans on the market. We didnt want the lousy gas mileage of an SUV either. It also looks so cool next to the RX-8... both in black, which is the only way I like it... once you go black you never go back!

A great car with few shortcomings that are easily offset by its long list of standard features. The car looks great on the outside. I did not even know that Mazda makes this model but it caught my eye in the display window as I was passing the dealership. I stopped by and checked out the car. Doors close with a solid thud. Seats are comfortable and fold and recline in may different ways. Full, three row side airbags, moonroof, fog lights, autostick tranny, and 6 cd changer. I had a strict budget to stick to and thought that the car would be too expensive. Imagine my shock when I got this car in TOURING EDITION and still paid under $22K. Drives great and turns on a dime. Excellent car value.

  • Ownership update! - 2006 Mazda Mazda5

Weve owned our 5 for about a year and a half now and I thought I would give a word on a 5 thats been used since were over the new car excitement. We have 3 kids in car sears and it is used in mainly city traffic or long road trips. This car still drives and handles amazingly. It is a U-turn king and parallel parking is a walk in the park. We have taken multiple road trips from LA to NY in it and it has proved worth the money (that were still paying) time and time again. We had even packed it up with 7 people and their luggage for a 1500 mile trip and it still drives strong. The cartridge oil filter is VERY easy to change since it is right on the bottom of the engine. Mazda is amazing!

I became most interested in the Mazda5 when I found out a five speed was available. I cant believe how many features are standard in this vehicle.

  • Review # 3 - 2006 Mazda Mazda5

Its been almost two years and 28000 miles and still going strong. The weight distribution provides excellent steering and braking response but the biggest weakness is the front wheel drive traction. I would like to see "high profile" MAZDA5s with all wheel drive, choices of six speed manual or continously variable automatic transmissions and lower final drive ratios for hilly and/or snowy states. Nothing else is like the MAZDA5 and these features whould make a good car a great car.

I wanted a sporty car but my wife didnt. Once we saw the Mazda5 we found the perfect balance. Very European for American style taste, but that makes it stand out of the crowd.
