The Mazda 5 is a new, affordably priced compact minivan that seats six.

  • Low price, generous features list, precise steering, stellar fuel economy for a minivan.
Cons:
  • Can seem underpowered when fully loaded with people and gear, extremely cramped third row.

  • The Little Strato Blue Wagon That Could - 2006 Mazda Mazda5

I bought my MZ5 used with 41000 miles which is a little more than normal but seemed very well taken care of. I sold my 2003 Honda Accord Coupe and bought it to replace it, and I do not regret it one bit. I totally love this little wagon. Sporty in and out, awesome handling, peppy, room for six or fold up the seats and have an enormous carrying capacity. Love the slider doors, although many people including my sons tease me for driving a minivan, nonetheless, all the attributes this wagon brings to the table over compensates for the mini-van label, I prefer to call it a "Sport Wagon". My average MPG city and highway combined is a steady 22-23 and I have gotten 28- 29 on pure highway driving.

  • First Generation Odyssey Replacement - 2006 Mazda Mazda5

Replacement for our 10 year old 1st generation Honda Odyssey (bought new). I was struck by the nearly identical specifications, etc. Physical size, wheelbase, engine size, output, seats, even MPG is identical.

Had the car for 2.5 years. Really like the car. Agree with most of the other reviews, needs better tires, stronger A/C, 5th gear(overdrive)and interior light switch from drivers seat. Approx. 22mpg city/ 26-28mpg highway, thought I would get a little more. Overall satisfied with the car for the money!

  • Just What We Wanted - 2006 Mazda Mazda5
    By -

This was the perfect car for us, because of its unique combination of space efficiency and economy. I also wanted a standard transmission - which is not available on any traditional, larger minivan. Power is adequate, but I believe the car would benefit from a slightly larger engine. I knew before buying that the AC was a little weak, so I had the windows professionally tinted at a reasonable cost. Weve had no problem with keeping the car cool, even though - at least for the year we have - there are no ducts for passengers behind the driver. Our driving styles and routes are easy on gas, so the approximate 28 - 29 mpg we average is unlikely to be bettered.

  • Great, but not a Road Car - 2006 Mazda Mazda5
    By -

I have a base model manual with no options. I’ve had it for 2 weeks & 2675 mostly road trip miles. Great value, but one major negative: unsupportive driver’s seat caused back pain after a few hours, despite adjustable lumbar support. Never had the problem in my recent road cars (Civics & a VW Golf).

  • Good choice for the money - 2006 Mazda Mazda5

I bought our Mazda 5 earlier this year, we were looking for for an economical alternative to an SUV, and this does the job fine. I am 63", and the front and second row seats are quite comfortable. The gas mileage is great, the handling is first-rate, and it makes a great family vehicle. My wife picks up our son and 4 neighbor kids from school every day and they love the car. Weve also managed to load bicycles, a large dog crate, and have plenty of room left over.

  • Fun to drive, practical, has shortcoming - 2006 Mazda Mazda5

I bought a 2006 with almost all the options. We have 2 children and regularly carpool two others to school. I like driving the car. It is small and peppy. I love the 5 speed on a minivan.

  • perfect city car for families - 2006 Mazda Mazda5
    By -

I wanted to upgrade to a bigger car than our Honda civic, which was getting a little small for our two kids and their friends. I was very interested in the Odyssey, but learned from friends that the gas mileage in NYC was under 15 mpg. I found out about the mazda5 and am hooked. Its really easy to park (its only a foot or so longer than the civic) my kids love bringing their friends along for a ride, and quite spacious when all the seats are folded down.

  • Nice car - 2006 Mazda Mazda5

The Mazda 5 has been a great car that I can still fit my family of four in and all of the gear that you need for small children. The only negative that I have had was that the front passengers seat does not have an armrest.

  • Madza5 Workhorse - 2006 Mazda Mazda5

I use my Mazda for hauling my Arts and Crafts booth and products. With the seats down, there is about as much room as a normal minivan. The one major complaint I have about the vehicle is the fact it gets extremely hot in the summer and the air conditioning takes a long time to cool off the back of the vehicle. Another issue is the door locks. My son has a 2002 Focus, a much less expensive vehicle, and the doors lock automatically after putting the vehicle in gear. Last issue is the remote entry system... terrible, terrible, terrible.
