The Mazda 5 is a new, affordably priced compact minivan that seats six.

200 miles after purchase, it is a blast to drive and very comfortable. Sporty exterior and well laid out interior. Lots of standard features with the driver and family in mind. This is a very solid and comfortable minivan that drives and rides like a much more expensive vehicle than it is. Mazda has given us the great handling of the 3 with the room and cargo space for family trips, plus great gas mileage which is a plus for today. Excellent build quality and Mazda reliability so for the price it cant be beat. I would recommend this Mazda5 to anyone who enjoys a sporty drive and ride with the practical use and space of a utility vehicle.

I use my Mazda for hauling my Arts and Crafts booth and products. With the seats down, there is about as much room as a normal minivan. The one major complaint I have about the vehicle is the fact it gets extremely hot in the summer and the air conditioning takes a long time to cool off the back of the vehicle. Another issue is the door locks. My son has a 2002 Focus, a much less expensive vehicle, and the doors lock automatically after putting the vehicle in gear. Last issue is the remote entry system... terrible, terrible, terrible.

We were looking around for a new car to replace the Expedition for about 1 month. We looked at a few different cars (Pacifica, Maxima, etc.) until we found the 5. It has exactly what we are looking for! Sporty, good looking, easy on gas, safe (a lot of air bags) and room for family of 4 crammed with luggage. We recently did a 100 mile trip to Victoria, BC. and had no complaints. The handling is so wonderful, understeer is very, very minor. The Navigation works great on major roads and highways, but not in rural areas. Easy in and out of the second row via sliding doors are a blessing. We currently have 900 miles on the 5 and are averaging around 400 miles per tank.

  • Major problem - 2006 Mazda Mazda5

Major recall due to an exhaust/transmission design flaw which can cause the vehicle to catch on fire. After driving the car for three weeks, I have been without the car for almost six weeks while Mazda tries to fix the problem. Stay away from this vehicle until the bugs are worked out.

I am very sad I dont see more Mazda 5s on the road, because this is a terrific car. Mazda doesnt seem to advertise them on the TV or radio, and I didnt even know they existed until I was car shopping and saw it in a newspaper ad. I will not own another car because this model is perfect for me. Im single and own a home and I can pretty much load anything into this car that a truck could carry. Ladders, Christmas trees, cabinets, 30 bags of mulch...friends. It is zippy and I dont find the acceleration slow--maybe Im not that kind of driver. It turns on a dime and at 75k miles, Ive not had a single issue with the car. Loads of room for me and my cats when we travel to PA from LA.

  • Mazda5 Complaint - 2006 Mazda Mazda5

I never thought I’d be filing a Mazda5 complaint, but here it is. Consumer Reports raved about it, so I bought one. What a mistake. If service is even remotely important to you, you will have a Mazda complaint too. My Mazda5 has a bad burning smell coming from the engine into the cabin. It stinks and gives me a headache. I’ve taken it to two different dealerships for service; both simply disagreed with me and refused to do anything. It’s hard to consider any of the pros of this vehicle with this problem present. I was looking forward to a happy experience with this vehicle. The Mazda5 has been a huge disappointment.

I have the manual, and its practically perfect. It seems like the ideal combination of features -- small enough, light enough, and powerful enough to be fun to drive, yet economical. But large enough and flexible enough to be really useful without carrying around a lot of extra weight and size. My only concern is that the company doesnt seem to support it. Ive never seen it advertised, and the dealer didnt even mention it as an available model even though it fits my description of what I was looking for exactly. No wonder that in the two months since I bought it Ive only seen one other on the road. But the up side of that is that it feels special.

I purchased this car on 7 July and so far everything is great. I have almost 200 miles on it but have not had to purchase gas just yet so I dont know how the MPG will be. It is fun to drive and has plenty of room and the sliding back doors make access easy and you dont have to worry about them opening on the street side. The antilock brakes and engine immobilizer make it better for insurance. Over all a very well built car or minivan if you prefer.

  • Great Car for the Money - 2006 Mazda Mazda5

Ive had my Mazda 5 for 2 weeks. Gas mileage is awesome compared to my gas guzzling SUV. Im averaging 24 in the city and a recent drive to Los Angeles from San Diego was about 30mpgs. I couldnt be happier. This is not a luxury vehicle by any means, but if you like practical, this is the car. If youre tall or bigger you might feel its too small. Getting my kids in and out is easy with the sliding doors on each side. I havent had any issues with power. It gets up hills without any problems and merges on to freeways fine. So far this car is great for the price! I hope to get reliability over the years as its too early to tell. Also would like to know how it does in crash tests.

  • WOW... Me likes... - 2006 Mazda Mazda5

I have three kids and a wife and we use this vehicle always. Great compromise between the practicality of a minivan and the fun and pep of a sport car. We got it with the manual, very peppy indeed. Very happy thus far. Perfect vehicle for my family at this time. Hard to fit three full size car seats in a sedan/wagon/or two row SUV, this one does it all very well. Even though this is a "Ford" it is predominantly engineered and built in Japan; that sold it for us. All of this plus the NAV for less than $23K... WOW!
