  • Engine problems - 2006 Mazda Mazda5

Agree with other reviewers that battery was poor and had to be replaced early in the ownership. Also had problem with driver side rear door latch not closing in cold weather. Kept all service appointments with Mazda dealership, 80,000 km on car, and yet the engine literally fell out of the car while we were driving on the highway at 90km/h.... many parts scattered all over the highway and smoked pouring out. About 3 minute warning from the "check engine" light before this happened. Will not buy this car again.

  • Regretting decision to buy the Mazda5 - 2006 Mazda Mazda5

So far, I have to say it is just ok. Biggest complaint is very poor climate control, poor kids are cooking in second and third rows. Second big issue is the key that costs nearly $300 to replace if lost or damaged, with no alternative. To top that off, the key is manufactured mainly of plastic, which is just too easily broken. I feel like I am walking around with a porcelain egg or something, if I drop it will it break, yikes! Overall I would go back to my crowded Pontiac Grand Prix or even the gas guzzling Durango. Serously regret the decision to purchase this vehicle.

  • Small interior - 2006 Mazda Mazda5
    By -

I would never buy this car again. I had to replace the tires, the traction was poor and they leaked after the first year. The third row is to small, no passenger arm rest. The interior cant handle every day use. The dash looks worn after barely two years and the one and only arm rest is totally worn out. Power locks dont work right. The only thing I do like is the sporty feel and look.

  • Great if you love to purchase tires !! - 2006 Mazda Mazda5

I was excited about this car at first because of the manual option with six passenger seating. That was short lived once I realized that this car gets horrible gas mileage for a 4cyl. I average around 20mpg. This is a 50/50 combo of highway/city. Then, the tires/suspension/alignment problems... I am at 67,000 and bout to purchase my 3rd set of tires! This will be the fourth set on the car itself. I had suspension problems right away and it was taken to the dealer 5-6 times. The last time I thought it had been fixed!! The noise was gone!! But the tire wear was unreal!! Buyer beware!! Factor in yearly tire replacement!!!

  • Bought Brand new in Jan 2007 Let me tell you what I know to date! - 2006 Mazda Mazda5

The tires are rediculous on this car, you have to rotate them with EVERY oil change because this car only requires you to get an oil change every 5,000-6,500 You cannot get non Mazda Shocks on this car and apparently noone but Mazda can seem to get the shock to work for than a 8months even if your machanic gets the shocks from mazda. I put after market shocks on my car from 2 diff. mecahnics and they both busted a block down the road. then they replaced them with Mazda shocks and they worked for a while, now Im waiting to see if Mazda will warranty the one that isnt good less than a year later. I drive my car about 60 miles a day back and forth on the Turnpike mostly highwy

  • Odd tire size spells trouble - 2006 Mazda Mazda5
    By -

The car has unexpected power and can get on the freeway easily. There is more wind noise and road noise than we expected. The ride is also hard for a car, you can feel the cracks in the road. Maintenance is hard - the access hole for the oil filter is offset so it is very hard to get to without removing the entire bottom panel. The biggest issue I have is the odd size tires. We got a nail in the tire and the tire can not be repaired. There are NO replacement tires available for 30 DAYS and the spare should not be used above 50mph, not a safe speed on the freeway. I would be afraid to take this car on a trip or out of town for fear of beings stranded if I get a flat tire. BE CAREFUL!

  • Not the car for you if you live in a winter climate - 2006 Mazda Mazda5

When I 1st got this car I loved it. Now that Ive driven it for 2 years I have had it. My biggest complaint is the seat belts. I have had to replace 2 seat belts because the reciever has just come apart. I would hate to be in an accident because I have no faith that my family would be safe. When I called Mazda they would not replace the 2nd one because it wasnt under warranty. They obviously dont care about safety. I also have issues with the tires & the snow. Even with the snow tires you cant get traction because of all the snow pack. I am also quite disappointed with the gas mileage. I was hoping to get at least 27 mpg but actually get about 21 mpg.

  • Mazda5 Complaint - 2006 Mazda Mazda5
    By -

I never thought I’d be filing a Mazda5 complaint, but here it is. Consumer Reports raved about it, so I bought one. What a mistake. If service is even remotely important to you, you will have a Mazda complaint too. My Mazda5 has a bad burning smell coming from the engine into the cabin. It stinks and gives me a headache. I’ve taken it to two different dealerships for service; both simply disagreed with me and refused to do anything. It’s hard to consider any of the pros of this vehicle with this problem present. I was looking forward to a happy experience with this vehicle. The Mazda5 has been a huge disappointment.

  • Good car for price - 2006 Mazda Mazda5

This is a good car for the sticker price. I found that the handling was good and the "power power" rating is incorrect. The AC could be more powerful. This is my second minivan & I am not complaining.

  • too many problems within a three years - 2006 Mazda Mazda5
    By -

We have had too many alignment problems with this car. Very loud noise coming from rear-checked but never taken care of. Tires go flat, alignment never done correctly and caused tires to go out over any bump and every bump in the street can be felt and heard. We have approximately 100,000 miles on the car. Each time we have had a flat tire we were told it was because of the alignment. One day our right passenger door wouldnt open at all. Once we opened it, it would not close so we had to tie it down so that we could drive home and we were 4 hours away from home and the temperature was 20-25 degrees. This car has not been what I thought it would be. Very dissatisfied with it.
