This Year's Model Updates:

The 2007 Mazda 3 sees a number of changes. Although these include a minor exterior refresh involving mainly the taillights, most are more functional. Now standard on all Mazda 3s are a tire-pressure monitor, an auxiliary input jack for the stereo, a rear-seat center armrest and an additional power point in the console. A stability control system becomes available on the Touring and Grand Touring trims.

Pros:
  • Athletic handling, refined engines, strong brakes, sharp styling, top-notch build and materials quality, hatchback utility.
Cons:
  • Top safety equipment either optional or on higher trims, tight rear legroom, so-so fuel economy with 2.3-liter engine.

  • Peppy Little Car - 2007 Mazda Mazda3

Although I am used to V8 power, this car has enough power for most conditions. You have to give up something for twice the gas mileage. Handling and ride are impressive for a compact car. I drove a Mazda6 for a few days, and I would rather have the 3.

  • 5 door fun - 2007 Mazda Mazda3

The 3 5-door Gran Touring is a solid, well put together vehicle that is fun to drive. As a suburban commuter, i get 23 MPH. The original Goodyear RSA tires were bad, only got 18,000 miles out of them, and they were terrible in bad weather. Put on slightly wider yokahamas that are terrific. This car is heavy, and a bit of a pig off the line, but at speed is handles well, accelerates well, and is comfortable.

  • Poor Mileage - 2007 Mazda Mazda3

I loved everything about this car when I first saw it. Now that I have had it for almost 2 years, I am disappointed in the mileage. I do mostly city driving, and I am lucky to get 25 mpg. I was told I would get high 20s and mid 30s on the highway. No way that is happening. Also, I had the tires rotated, and the car is very noisy. Would prefer it to be a quieter car. Love the looks of it though.

  • Fun Car - 2007 Mazda Mazda3

After 3 months of this car, I can honestly say its the most fun car Ive ever driver thats been an every day driver. While not as much fun as a Porsche or a Corvette, this thing is still a lot of fun. This car has performance, better fuel economy, and can handle extremely well. Easily beats my sisters Pontiac G6 in every category except size. The handling is right up there with some of the performance cars Ive driven before. This thing never feels like its going to leave the road. The interior color scheme is awesome, and I think it says a lot about the Mazda 3 exterior design when, after 4 years, it still looks better than the new Corolla and the Honda!

  • It is almost perfect BUT.... - 2007 Mazda Mazda3

I love this car, but would strongly recommend you get the manual transmission if you are after max fun. The automatic shift function is a joke. Off of the highway the 2.0L engine is almost just as fun and much better on gas, plus you can avoid those terrible 17" tires. 33K so far and nothing except basic maintainace and having to buy snow tires on steel rims and new street tires on the 17" rims.

  • An Econo-Car Like No Other! - 2007 Mazda Mazda3

Overall, I have to say that I made the smartest purchase, having cross-shopped the Volkswagen Jetta Wolfsburg edition, the Toyota Carolla S, and Honda Civic. More features for the price point and class of vehicle combined with vehicle performance were the top factors in my ultimate decision. Zoom Zoom!

  • The honeymoon is over - 2007 Mazda Mazda3

Very good handling, good mpg for a compact, very good power, lots of features for money, ride below avg. Even for a compact also not very quiet even for a compact, had it back in for at least 2 events. Remote start and engine lite was on 4 days while I waited for an appointment. Could not drive it for fear of breaking down out of town or in bad place. Messed up 4 day week end.

  • 2007 Mazda 3s - 2007 Mazda Mazda3

Owned for almost 3 years/33,000 miles without a single problem. Fun to drive/handles great. Love the 5 speed manual transmission. Im tall (6-04, 210lbs and I find the front seats to be uncomfortable on long drives. My 5-04 wife and daughters love the seats. If I drive it easy on the hwy we get at best 30 mpg. I think a car of this size should do better although it does have the 2.3 engine.

  • Mini 3 series - 2007 Mazda Mazda3

This car looks very classy and sporty. It is fun to drive and holds the road well. However, every door panel has had to come off at the dealer because of all but one window being off track. Also my outside door handle was rattling very loud when my music was turned up. Nothing mechanically wrong with car, but I question the build quality of these other flaws.

  • Tons of features, short of the leaders - 2007 Mazda Mazda3

Slow, very unresponsive engine below 4K. The 2.0 liter in my RSX Type S feels much stronger than the 2.3 in this. Handling is good when driven at 7 tenths, but gets sloppy when pushed to the limits. Very long list of features, but quality is extremely disappointing:drivers seat squeaks badly (driver is 100 lbs), dash rattles horribly, drivers side window slams into frame when rolling up and rear left door vibrates badly when opened and is extremely hard to shut. I now know why Mazda offers so many things on this car; its b/c they cannot match Honda and/or Toyota in terms of quality and refinement.
