This Year's Model Updates:

Lincoln's luxury liner gets added safety in 1999 with the addition of standard side airbags for the driver and front passenger. There's also five new exterior colors, upgraded interior trim options, two new wheel designs and an improved audio system. Otherwise the Lincoln remains unchanged after its major rework in 1998.

Pros:
  • High tech options and increased safety for a competitive price.

  • Last Ford for us.............. - 1999 Lincoln Continental

Ive owned many Ford products but this one is the best on luxury and the worst on performance quality. It is the end of an era. With 71,000 Im replacing a transmission $2200.00. Ford cant make up its mind to rebuild or replace, duh, the torque converter failed and ruined the transmission and they cant decied what to do???? Power seat tracks that failed, outside power mirrors failed, and two of eight coils failed at $120.00 each to replace at less that 50K miles. I never had that much trouble with a Mercury Topaz with 200K miles or my F-150 with 125K miles, or my Mercury Cougar with 130Kmiles.

  • Great Car! - 1999 Lincoln Continental

We purchased this car 5 years ago and its been the most reliable car we ever had.Its got 152 K miles and no problems. The looks of this car are timeless.I cant believe Edmunds calls it "boxy" what? Its got 4.6 lt v8 @275 hp and gets 25 mpg hwy.Need i say more?Awesome car but transmissions were kind of fragile in this car so make sure you change that trans oil no later then every 30K miles.

  • A GREAT value for a used car buy - 1999 Lincoln Continental

A lot of (used) car for the money. Many convenience/luxury features. Nice ride. Powerful InTech V8 engine easily overcomes Michelin tires, but traction control works pretty well. The engine is bulletproof, but transmission fluid MUST be changed every 15K miles to maintain shift quality and if you expect the transmission to last more than 50,000 miles. Handling is decent but not up to Lexus/Benz. Quality is quite good for American made car, but not up to the Japanese highline models. I would never buy a new one (even if they still made them) - too much depreciation - but for $9000-$13000 you wont find a nicer car with as many features.

  • Better than average - 1999 Lincoln Continental

This is my third car, and a hand-me-down from my father. I have been driving it for 3 years now. I hated it when I first got it, as a big, boat like sedan was not fitting for the outdoors man in me. However, its slowly grown on me. 175,00 miles on it currently, second transmission was replaced at 105,000. The air ride suspension went out on it and replaced with struts. The engine is strong and reliable. The 4 speed transmission was a horrible implementation. Its a beast in the snow, never failed up the ski mountain, and I have nicknamed it "The Snow Boat". Overall, compared to similar age and mileage cars I have seen, this has been, and I swallow my pride to say, superb.

  • Expensive Upkeep - 1999 Lincoln Continental

Have 1999 Lincoln Continental, approx. 215,000 miles, second owner - bought with 22,000 miles. Very comfortable during long highway driving but expensive to keep up. On 3rd transmission, replaced water pump, replaced inner and outer tie rods and a bunch of other suspension parts, found out today that it needs ball joints, new serpentine belt and more suspension parts. Estimate Ive put about $ 8000. In repairs since 2001 purchase for 21k. Body has held up well, but mechanically its dollaring me to death.

  • Mediocre at best - 1999 Lincoln Continental

Lincoln started sucking it up when they redesigned this car. Its got a good, reliable V8 engine but a 4 speed manual chokes the power. Its luxurious, good stock stereo, and relatively comfortable for long drives. If you are nice to it, its nice to you. Its no sports car, its your typical boat of a luxury car with a big engine. Im not shedding a tear at their discontinuation.

  • Decent Car - 1999 Lincoln Continental

I had to purchase a new car after my 89 Buick bit the dust. I shopped around and found this at a local dealer ship and they had an excellent price on it. The car was purchased with 80K on the dial and it is now up to 90K. I have had two MAJOR problems and those are as follows: 1) PATS module that tells the car that the key is in the ignition failed costing 400. 2) A bad airbag sensor in the passenger airbag costing 350. Overall it has been a pretty decent vehicle.

  • nice car - 1999 Lincoln Continental

Purchased this car from my grandmother a month ago and sold my new ES350. Love driving this car. While it is not very sporty and inside storage is non-existent, it has a very smooth ride, it is quiet, and very comfortable. I enjoy driving it and get plenty of compliments.
