Pros:
  • Great value, long list of standard features, high-quality interior materials, solid construction, true off-road capability, lengthy warranty coverage.
Cons:
  • Mediocre fuel economy, harsh ride over sharp bumps.

  • Four Week Review - Kia Sorento EX - 2005 Kia Sorento
    By -

My new Sorento EX has the luxury pkg, ABS, rear spoiler, trailer hitch and first aid kit options. After some heavy negotiations, my equivalent cost for this $27000+ vehicle was $22000. I have been pleasantly surprised with the performance so far after only four weeks of ownership. A recent 1200 mile trip at speeds of 80-85 MPH produced a shade over 19 MPG. Comfort was great for my 6 3", with two exceptions: Using cruise control, there is no handy place to rest the right foot, and the parking brake is located where it is in the way for resting the right leg. The ride was good, except for inferior roads, which telegraph most of the bumps. Its too new to evaluate reliability at this point.

  • Bulb issues constantly - 2005 Kia Sorento

I have had my Sorento for less than 3 years now and I have had to replace 11 bulbs between the low beam, high beam, tail lights, and brake lights. Each bulb averages $35 at the dealership to replace. If it is within 1 year, they replace at no cost. Of the 11 bulbs, 9 have lasted 14 months, which is not covered by the dealership. Something has got to be wrong, and they claim nothing. BULBS DO NOT GO OUT LIKE THIS!

We have had our Sorento for a year and are very pleased. Considered 4-Runner, Pathfinder, Pilot, RX 330 and others. This vehicle is a very competent off roader and is very civilized on the road. I pulled a 4000-4500 pound trailer across the country with NO problems, including over the Rockies, Sierra Nevadas and the Coastal Range. Gas mileage isnt great, little things like the clock and passenger airbag sensor are also not great but the overall build quality is exceptional. Well see how the car holds up over the long run but when price is a factor this has to be the best mid-sized SUV on the market. If price isnt a factor it is still one of the best. If you are on the fence, test drive it.

Just purchased vehicle hard to judge quality and reliability at this time. Bought mostly for warranty.

The vehicle is excellent in deep snow but I have had the 4WD fail once at about 40,000 miles and now the cruise has failed at 51,000. It is better on stability than any other 4WD that I have had and I do drive a lot of interstate at 65 mpg. The one other problem I find is the rear tailgate door is difficult to close with the pull down handle on the inside.

  • Burned twice by Sorento - 2005 Kia Sorento

I made a deal with the dealership to trade from my defective unrepairable 03 Sorento that had major electrical problems to a new 05 Sorento and within 2 weeks of receiving the replacement vehicle I began having major transmission problems. At 10,300 miles now they have tried everything to repair it and now want to replace the transmission. Have had the defective clock replaced 3 times and it still doesnt work. LOOK ELSEWHERE! When something seems too good to be true it usually is!

  • Nice price, great SUV - 2005 Kia Sorento

This is the best SUV for the money. It comes with all the bells and whistles you could possibly want in a vehicle without going overboard. Gas mileage like all SUVs is bad, but you would know this if you were looking at SUVs. The small complaints on this SUV are the rear speakers are weak sounding and the drivers floorboard is shallow for someone with bigger feet. The engine could use more beefing up! Overall, best SUV for the money.

  • Its a Kia not a Lexus - 2005 Kia Sorento

im 63" 275. its just too small for people of this size .im always hitting my head on the roof. the seat doesnt go back far enough so my knees are always bent. the transmission shift pattern is too sluggish, overrevs under hard acceleration. oem tires are not good for snow; has to be in 4x4 when there is lots of snow and ice due to loss of traction. Its a Kia not a lexus give it a better price I traded mine in and only got 17,500 with only "4500" miles.whats wrong with that picture!

  • powerful and roomy - 2005 Kia Sorento

I love my Sorento. The ride is comfortable and the speed is incredible, worth the fuel expense. I just had one problem with it; at 5,000 miles the spark plugs went bad on it and i was told by the dealership it was a regular "Kia" problem. I also dislike the green lighting on the dash and the CD player, it makes the interior look cheesy. Worth every penny though; it cost a total of $21,000 including the financing! The tiny Toyota Corolla costs the same! I could not find a better deal for a car with the options and power the Sorento gave me.
