Pros:
  • Great value, long list of standard features, high-quality interior materials, solid construction, true off-road capability, lengthy warranty coverage.
Cons:
  • Mediocre fuel economy, harsh ride over sharp bumps.

  • Six Month Review - 2005 Kia Sorento

This is a follow-up to my Four Week Review. It has now been six months and I am very much satisfied with my Sorento EX. Still no problems, and its still fun to drive. It has become apparent however that at 6 3" it is a chore to enter the vehicle, as I must lower my head considerably to keep from hitting it on the upper door frame. Once inside, there is plenty of head room, even with the sunroof. For initial comments, see my review of 7/13/2005.

  • Lots of SUV for the money - 2005 Kia Sorento

Only 2500mi so far. We love the feeling of safety and visibility with airbags everywhere. At 61", 180lb the fit’s roomy without any discomfort, even in the fairly roomy back seat. Nicely outfitted, well laid out but we added leather for an upscale feel. Firm ride with good feedback at speed, pulls our 2-moto trailer 70-80mph no problem. Good power, very smooth shifting 5 speed tranny, generous undercoating, quality alum wheels and Michelin treads. Sharp curb appeal for Saturday nite and capable offroad for sunday fun. Great value at 20k$ otd. Hope the long warranty is a seldom needed plus.

  • Time to ditch the past image! - 2005 Kia Sorento

I was at my wits end looking for a car and my last visit was to look at a Kia Sorento. Why did I need to look further? What a value and people think its a Lexus!

  • Love my Sorento - 2005 Kia Sorento

We just bought our Sorento two weeks ago and we love it. Its so much more "car" than we thought we would get for the price. Gas mileage is not great, but that wasnt the reason we bought the Sorento. It is loaded with features, drives great (actually, more maneuverable than my old Honda Prelude), looks nice, and fits our budget. Friends and family all are very impressed with the car. We are having our first child later this year and feel like weve got a safe, reliable vehicle to serve as our flagship. Id highly recommend the Sorento to anyone in the market for a mini- or mid-size SUV.

  • Kia has it - 2005 Kia Sorento

I started looking at Sorentos to help a female friend that thought she needed help shopping for one. I went to several dealers and looked around. I was impressed by the look, which looks strikingly like a Lexus RX, and by the acceleration. It handles quite well. And has good storage. It starts quickly like it is anxious to get on the road and go. I liked it so much, I bought one! And two friends liked it so much one has bought one, and other is likely going to buy one.

I love my Sorento. I did a lot of research before buying and it was by far the best value for the money. Its a beautiful vehicle, I get a lot of compliments and inquiries. The luxury package includes everything the higher end SUVs have for a lot less money.

  • Got this for Christmas and Love It!!!! - 2005 Kia Sorento
    By -

My husband gave this to me as a Christmas gift and it is the best gift ever! I had a 2004 Kia Optima and loved it and I wanted to stay with the Kia family. I love my Sorento even though I intially thought an SUV would be too big and awkward to drive but I needed something bigger - more room. The warranty is one of the best out there. It handles just like a car so I dont feel like I am driving this big piece of machinery. It looks far more $$$$ than it really is. Several people thought it was a Lexus or Acura! Looks way better than those to me!

  • Like a rock! - 2005 Kia Sorento

I owned this for three years, bought new, as a work vehicle. This has to be the the heaviest build small suv I have ever driven. Although there were numerous trips to the shop under warranty all was taken care of efficiently with little fuss. The gas mileage is abysmal, at 15 city and 20 highway, but built like a tank. I was rear ended at 50,000 miles and all I had was a cracked bumper cover! The honda that hit me was totalled. The car never let me down, and honestly I have been considering buying a used one as a second vehicle for my wife.

  • Buy one while theyre still cheap - 2005 Kia Sorento

Best highway mileage 22.5 from RI to PA. Average mixed highway/city 18mpg. Worst mileage 15 - I drove it hard off every light, ramp etc. I have averaged as high as 60,000 miles per year, driving mostly GM vehicles. You cant compare this to a Trailblazer, its twice as nice at half the price. The $20,000 I saved buys a lot of gas. Mines a fully loaded EX with almost every aftermarket option Kia offers. Plenty of torque, power to spare. This car wants to run. Baby the pedal on take-offs, let the transmission do the work. Back off on the gas pedal just before it shifts for a little for a smoother shift and watch the gas mileage climb too.
