The optional sport package now includes blacked-out headlamps and, on LX models, a premium audio system. A five-speed automatic transmission replaces last year's four-speed unit.

Pros:
  • Great value, long list of standard features, high-quality interior materials, solid construction, true off-road capability, lengthy warranty coverage.
Cons:
  • Mediocre fuel economy, harsh ride over sharp bumps.

  • Constant Electrical Problems - 2005 Kia Sorento

Im glad to see Im not the only one with a horrible experience with my KIA. Ive replaced batteries, head lights, tail lights, etc, etc. I keep telling them that four batteries in 5 years is not normal, same with all the lights going out - there has to be a major problem with the electrical system but they say no everything is fine. My warranty expired in August so I am looking to dumb this thing fast. DO NOT BUY A KIA.

  • Great SUV for the price - 2005 Kia Sorento

Ive owned my Sorento for 5 years and have had not one single mechanical problem with the car. (My dome light burns out frequently, but at $20 to repair, I dont consider that a "problem"). It has the pick-up to do highway speeds (and more), even when fully loaded. Its got the cargo space more like the larger Highlander than the smaller RAV4, although its priced lower than either Toyota. We take my car on road trips and while the gas mileage isnt fantastic, the car is comfortable and has a nice ride.

  • My New Favorite Vehicle - 2005 Kia Sorento

I have owned many cars with many great features but none of them compare to the features the Kia has. The luxury package is worth the extra with the heated seats for the cold winter days and the all wheel drive traction. What I originally liked most was the classy style that looked just like a Lexus only better. I plan on keeping this car for a very long time.

  • A real Value - 2005 Kia Sorento

I bought the Sorento to replace a Subaru Forrester and it beats it in every way. More power, better seating position (very Comfortable), better build quality, better handling and a much more handsome vehicle. The Subaru seemed tinny and cheap by comparison. The Sorento is packed with standard features making it a great buy for the buck.

  • Sorry Sorento - 2005 Kia Sorento

I bought the car 9 months ago and since then had a new transmission put in (2 months), new steering wheel (crooked) and a few shimmers and creaks fixed as well as dash rattling. Now the one that kills me is having the harmonic balancer (main pulley) bolt break off while doing 70mph down the freeway and losing power steering and a few other important driving features. Keep in mind that the bolt is connected directly to the crank shaft which is now going to be replaced because KIA doesnt ship complete motors and this after owning it 9 months with only 8000 miles.

Very well built. Great warranty. Has a good solid drive. The ride could be better on rough roads.

  • 1st time KIA owner - 2005 Kia Sorento

I bought this 1 year ago with a little concern because I had never heard anything about the KIA Sorento. But loved the look and feel of it when I drove it. We have had some major snow storms in Reno this year and it handles very well in the snow. I have to tell you, I have had no problems with it and taking it back to the dealer for it services has been a positive experience. I can not say that about some other dealers that I have purchased vehicles from. Im very impressed and would recommend to anyone.

  • Great SUV - 2005 Kia Sorento

This a real good SUV. Looks smart, runs even better. 3 critisims... 1)Gas mileage is not the best. 2)left front wheel well mud flap interferes with tight turns. 3) Michelin tires are worn at 30,000 inspite of several rotations. This could be a tire issue or suspension problem..Im not sure which. Overall I like the Sorento vey much. I bought the LX. Next time I will buy the EX for more options.

  • Great SUV without going for broke! - 2005 Kia Sorento

I was a little nervous in the beginning when deciding what SUV to purchase. The Sorento was the last on my list but impressed me the most. A SUV for $26K fully loaded with leather? I thought it was unheard of, but the Sorento was all that and more. If you are looking for a reliable, spacious, comfortable, classy looking SUV, the Sorento EX should be on the top of your list. People think its either a Lexus or Mercedes; when I tell them its a KIA they are shocked! Its great for lugging our newborn around or just a night out on the town for the two of us.
