This Year's Model Updates:

Minor upgrades are in store for the Sedona in its second year on the market. On the outside, buyers will find new taillights, and in the cabin, you'll note a new audio faceplate and a remote fuel-door release. The LX model gets a CD player, while the EX now comes with two keyless remotes, as well as additional leather on the armrests and lower portions of the seats. A trailer hitch is now available for all Sedonas.

Pros:
  • Excellent value, lots of cupholders and storage bins, solid build quality, good crash test scores, lengthy warranty coverage.
Cons:
  • Hefty curb weight, below-average gas mileage, missing a few key minivan features, potentially expensive to repair in minor collisions.

The South Koreans have nearly hit a homerun with this one! Good build quality, fit-and-finish, looks, comfort, and rock solid value all make the Sedona minivan a good choice for todays families. There are just a couple of refinement issues, but they are negligible. The one thing that DOES suck, though, is the mileage. Youre doing well if you get 22 mpg on the highway, cruising at a constant speed on flat land. Trouble is, we have LOTS of hills/valleys here in Cincinnati, so mileage here tends to be awful - normally around 15 mpg in the city. The 3.5-liter V6 has plenty of power to get us up those really steep hills, but its a thirsty engine. Overall, Im pretty happy with my van.

  • Sad times for KIA service - 2003 Kia Sedona

The KIA van runs great, however it has been in the shop for 2 months due to an airbag light that was on. The dash and components were completely disassembled and a new wiring harness was installed. I picked up the car and the problems was still not fixed; the technician didnt even bother to test drive the van. I was really disappointed at the poor quality of work from the service dept. at Folsom Lake Kia. Now the shift mechanism and the interior lights wont work correctly. Kia corporate has been monitoring our situation, these guys seem to care very much how Im treated and have offered to help. Ill report back later when we find out how we will be compensated for our loss of use.

Van is very dependable ,great at high speed when dodging truck tire treads on I 75 ,the handeling of this Sedona is EXCELLENT rides and drives so very smooth Great Machine .

This is my third minivan, a geat value for money if you dont drive a lot of miles. Gas mileage is never been over 16 MPG, even if I drive all freeway. My Toyota Previa with a supercharge engine got better mileage than this van. Little trunk space. If I have to do it again, I would probably think twice about buying the current model. The van needs to go on a diet at 4900 pounds, its to heavy. causing the gas mileage problem. Other than the gas mileage and little trunk space its a good van.

  • Second time around - 2003 Kia Sedona

This is a long-term followup on our second Sedona. We rode the first for over 55000 miles until it was totaled in a freak accident at the dealership (broadsided by a runaway towtruck while in for an oil change). Our first sedona was bought right off the truck shortly after introduction, the second one sold in Tulsa. In its 55000 mile life, had to replace the radio (failed within two weeks), fix the lumbar support switch (wires were a tad too short - did it myself) and thats it. Period. Had absolutely no hesitation in buying another one (dealer made us the offer we couldnt refuse). Have had NO warranty issues with this one either, now with about 33000 on the clock.

Ive been driving my Kia Sedona for about 3 years now. I purchased it used and its been pretty reliable and gets to where Im going, but not comfortably. Like the others, the AC has never worked. My husband tried to put freon in it and it didnt work. The first 2 winters, the heat worked fine and now this year (coldest winter on record in our area) hot air only comes out of the rear heater and that doesnt really warm up the front even after its been running for a while. The drivers door only opens from the outside because the inside handle broke. The driver side back door handle is broken on the outside. The sunroof leaks. Stay away. Not worth all the trouble!!!

Only driven my new minivan a few weeks, but it handles much better than my Caravan ever did. All the features inside are easily accessible and the kids love the rear air features and the 12v plugs throughout the van that they can plug their games and stereos into. Was pleasantly surprised by the luxury car mats that came with it- even for both back seat areas, and the first aid kit was also a great find! It is a great van for the money and since I saved more than $8,000, I can use that money for a vacation!

got it 3 years ago and always have had a problem with the engine, transmission, electrical and so so on. If Id not get it as a present from a friend Id never buy it. Now the compressor went and its very hot. Dont make the mistake of getting yourself KIA. I learned this lesson the hard way

  • what I like about my van - 2003 Kia Sedona

We have an EX fully loaded. We use it for long distance travel only because we take a lot of trips that are over 500 miles or more. You said gas mil. is bad, but traveling on the highway at 65 to 75 mph, we get at least 25 mpg We never really use it for city driving. What made us choose this type of van was the seats were more comfortable than other vans we tried ( we have leather) and the road side assistance / 5 year-100000 mile warranty cant be beat. Besides I think it is a better looking minivan than Honda, Dodge or Ford. It does ride heavy, but it rides smooth and is a very quiet vehicle.

  • NEW CAR REPLACEMENT - 2003 Kia Sedona

I bought a Sedona in Oct 2001 and it had an oil leak which the dealer could not fix after 5 attempts. Would you believe they gave me a new one without hesitation? Great customer service and Ill buy another when the warranty runs out!
