Overview & Reviews
Finally replacing the boxy Cherokee that has been in production since 1984, the handsome all-new 2002 Jeep Liberty serves as the affordable SUV in Jeep's lineup. Borrowing styling cues from the 1997 Jeep Dakar and 1998 Jeepster concept vehicles, the Liberty is available in two trim levels with your choice of two- or four-wheel drive, a four- or six-cylinder engine and a manual or automatic transmission.
- Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, still a Jeep at heart.
- Thirsty at the gas pump, not as "car-like" as most of its competitors.

blackwells review - 2002 Jeep Liberty
By Blackwell - September 30 - 2:00 ammy jeep liberty has been a pretty good vehicle. the biggest concern i have had with the suv is that the front brakes make a squeaking and a metal grinding sound. i took it to the dealership & they told me that it was normal for a new car??

winter security vehicle - 2002 Jeep Liberty
By doug - September 23 - 3:23 amThe Jeep is a wonderful vehicle to have in winter; most times if you go off the road when slippery, put it in low range and get back on while cars are gonna sit and wait for a tow-truck. The Jeep gives me a feeling of safety when the weather is bad, as I can pull out of my driveway, with a foot of snow on the ground, in 4 wheel drive, and not spin a wheel. While doing this, my radio, with an awesome sound keeps me smiling!

Too many miles too soon - 2002 Jeep Liberty
By Hairyt - August 19 - 12:36 amDriven 52K since purchase and havent had any problems. Still no tune up, same tires, and no real squeaks or noises. Surprisingly sturdy vehicle, will likely get another.

my baby - 2002 Jeep Liberty
By delidel66 - August 6 - 4:36 pmThis the best small suv I have driven. It looks small but is very roomy. Drivers side floor area is too small for someone big like me but I still can enjoy long rides and short fast breaks. I am at 62,900 miles and never a problem except mirrors. Power mirror has a short occasionally. It sometimes wont work, but only for a few minutes. I dont know why, I just accept it. I highly recommend this Jeep.

Great invention from Jeep - 2002 Jeep Liberty
By zachary - July 12 - 10:56 amThe Jeep liberty is really nice. I bought it for the off roading features but it can hardly handle anything. I buried mine on a two track in maybe a half foot of water. The four wheel drive shaft is not very strong. I think Jeep came out with this vehicle so everyone can own a Jeep. I love this vehicle cause of two main reasons 1. Easy to drive 2. Very reliable. The four wheel drive got me out of countless puddles. I do not suggest this vehicle for off roading though.

Fun, but expensive to drive - 2002 Jeep Liberty
By NadineB - June 22 - 2:33 amBought it used with 41,000 miles on it. Have had no problems, have not had to have any repairs so far. Very roomy even with full passenger load, but not a lot of cargo space. Handles better than any 4WD we have ever owned, We have taken it places others would not dare go. Just wish it would be better on gas, very low gas mileage for a V6. Tends to get around 16-17 mpg. Other than that would recommend to anyone.

Needs Refinement - 2002 Jeep Liberty
By afguy - June 14 - 6:23 pmOverall a good vehicle. The engine has a lot of pinging and knocking which cannot be done away with. Steering is very touchy and gas is horrible (15-16 mpg average). It is hard to get non-Mopar accessories to fit the rear hitch due to the spare tire sticking out so far. I also wish I had the color matched flares and bumpers because they are starting to fade. Seats are a little uncomfortable too. I find my lower back gets tight after more than 45 minutes of driving.
