Model Overview:

Sold from 2002-'12, the Jeep Liberty was the successor to one of America's original compact SUVs, the Cherokee (which returned in 2014). True to its tough, capable Jeep lineage, the Liberty has considerable off-road capability, thanks to steep approach and departure angles and exceptional suspension travel and articulation. The Liberty was also rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds, a robust figure for its class. These are qualities not found in most other small utility vehicles from this time period, which saw the rise of crossover SUVs optimized for the suburban lifestyle.

Demerits for the Jeep Liberty include a weak engine lineup, with sluggish acceleration and dismal fuel economy from both the four-cylinder and V6 engines offered over the years (the first generation's briefly optional diesel engine is impressively fuel-efficient, however). Interior quality and comfort are also lacking, and by today's standards, the Liberty's general lack of refinement leaves much to be desired.

I bought my Liberty used with under 15,000 miles on it. I have had it a year and six months. It has been an awsome reliable vehicle. It has over 40,000 miles on it and have had no problems. Handles great on and off road. Low range torque is great. Average 16 to 18 for gas mileage. In town or higway. Doesnt pull small trailers very well.

Bought the jeep in 2005 for 21000 does not hold value at all it is worth less than half what I paid 4 years ago. Brakes squeak even though I got the expensive replacements. It is unstoppable in 4wd snow dont stand a chance thats a plus. Had 2 recalls fixed 1 with transmission 1 with ignition. I will not own one again even though it is semi reliable. I should have got one 3 years old and saved 10000 dollars.

This Jeep is my 3rd and by far the best. It has plenty of power and a nice ride. The only complaint is the sound system is weak.

  • A real 4WD for all needs. - 2003 Jeep Liberty

Overall,my Jeep Liberty had exceeded my expectations. It handles well on road and off road, (I drive over 100 miles per day). The engine is powerful and the braking system is strong. The balance of weight front and rear make the traction excellent under all weather conditions and on all terrain. My only criticism is the windshield which chips when impacted my the tiniest of debris.

Nice looking, easy to drive. Have squeaking noise from brakes every time I stop very annoying. Brought it to garage and brakes are good. But it will not stop squeaking. Gas not the greatest. Head light not bright enough at night. Feel like it wants to slid all the time on wet roads. Makes me very nerves. Use to drive a Blazer and felt a lot more safer.

  • Bad Window Blues - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I wanted to buy an American made car for solidarity sake, but Im starting to pay the price. Knock on wood, there hasnt been major drive train problems, but 3 of my 4 power windows have failed. Seems to be a common problem. The power window system has a serious design flaw, causing the window bracket to break and the window to fall down into the door. I’m convinced this is no coincidence, more likely a poorly designed window assembly. At $500 a piece for the dealer to fix, this will be a costly design flaw for me!

with about 300 miles on vehicle engine light came on took to dealer said it was a transmission code he cleared code and said probably do to the temp change that week but come back if it comes on again next day transmission was slipping took back a shifting switch in the tranny was bad. it still shifts like crap after being fixed its a automatic, over head cpu keep resetting it self to metric 2 to 3 times a week, loud vehicle idles very rough

I without a douby love this Jeep! I only have one problem with it, it goes into over drive too easily. The tranny is great for its hauling ability however it lags on a day to day driving basis. Now dont get me wrong I love my jeep but that is my only complaint! I like the fact that you can have a Jeep Grand Cherokee features with a Jeep Liberty price tag!
